Letter Template For Rspca's Anti Pedigree Campaign
poodlemum replied to BJean's topic in General Dog Discussion
Perhaps when you have been around this forum as long as some of the rest of us you will understand our disgust with the RSPCA - maybe you should READ some of the garbage they are putting out as fact before you rush in to defend them and denigrate us! -
From my experience (of over 30 years of dog-owning) I totally agree with these 2 statements. Over the years of my ex & I raising our Standard Poodles, I have always been the one who feeds them and generally tends to them, usually the one who trains them (either informally or formally) and yet some bonded to him, some to me! The only things that can make a slight difference is the gender - bitches tend to bond more to Males & dogs to Females.

Poll: Have You Ever Used The Report Button
poodlemum replied to sandgrubber's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe you complained about their spelling - that's absolutely the STUPIDEST thing I've been reported for (and, even stranger, got a warning!) all I did was suggest that the OP in that particular thread might use their "spellcheck" -
Very true, Poodlefan, although you must admit that there ARE memebrs of this forum who seem to delight particularly in flaming, insulting & bullying people. I am one who was massively flamed in a thread I started about re-homing a dog. Eventually I asked for it to be removed, not because I was "sooking" but because it was getting completely pointless. But did you not expect people to have strong opinions on a dog forum when you talked about rehoming a dog. Regardless of the reason, and I don't know your reason, in amongst dog lovers someone is going to have strong views about that, some are going to agree and some are going to sit on the fence. I am curious as to what you expected when you posted what you must have known would be a controversial topic. I havent' been around here that long, but it is not hard to see what across the board people are going to find controversial, ie rehoming, crossbreeding, health issues etc. That is the nature of a forum. I completely respect peoples rights to have differing opinions, and was aware that there would be some controversy, but I fail to see the neccessity for people to make cruel personal comments! Those poeple obviously don't respect the rights of others to have differing opinions!

Thanks, they think so, too

Years ago my (ex) husband & I lived in Prahran (inner Melbourne) in a tiny house with absolutely NO yard to speak of with 2 Standard Poodles. They were given long walks twice a day in the local park, where they had plenty of interaction with other dogs & people, had each other's company during the day & certainly appeared to be very happy, not at all traumatised!

Thanks for sending me the letter template - very well-put. I have put my details on it & emailed it to Dogs Victoria. -
Couple Using Halti's On Thier 2 Malamutes
poodlemum replied to skip's topic in General Dog Discussion
This comment was not only based on my instructing experience. My SIL got a puppy from me about 6 years ago. I think they took Jazz to obedience a few times, discovered she was bouncy and hard to manage (as Standard puppies can be ) and, instead of perservering, got a Halti (on the advice of an instuctor ) and just proceeded to drag the poor girl around by it. Jazz is now nearly 7 and still bouncy and untrained, so she lives outside -

Getting back on topic (as this thread seems to have attracted more than it's fair share of loonies ), as a former Obedience instructor, I always felt that the Halti was the lazy option - for people who really couldn't be bothered actually TRAINING their dog! -

Yes, best to just email to those who want it, as anyone can read this forum! -
Couple Using Halti's On Thier 2 Malamutes

Yes , thanks I had misunderstood the OP. Talk about getting your knickers in a twist Poodle Mum :D Thanks Erny for clarifying for me. I don't think I got my knickers in a twist - MY dogs don't eat their own poo and I take exception to someone suggesting that they do - I think your post was completely stupid & offensive. -
Dogs going to NZ need certain blood tests to be done, the NZ Quarantine website should have all the info, plus a list of approved vets who can do the tests for you. There is no actual quarantine period. Sorry I'm a but vague, I have exported a couple of puppies to NZ, but the last one was about 3 years ago.

Couple Using Halti's On Thier 2 Malamutes

I'm utterly dumbfounded that you would equate these 2 things! I would think hanging something from a halti would be extremely uncomfortabe. Do you think that the fact that your dogs "eat their own poo (never seen my dogs do this) & week old bones" means you can visit ANY indignity on them? -
In reply to you, I quote jdavis' well-put post: KKDD -If you are goin to support PETA, perhaps you should re-think your membership of a puerbred dog forum. I know many members here are people who merely own & love dogs, be they purebred or "mutts", but many of us are people who breed and/or show dogs, PAY to belong to DOL and find comments such as yours extremely offensive. Speaking of extremists who go off half-cocked... Im not sure where I have stated support for PETA, I smply commented that Iv not seen any evidence to support the extreme anti-PETA position of many DOLers which is quite often expressed in (ironically) violent terms. The thread started with a post about PETA poisoning dog's water, with no factual material to back it up. Other claims Iv read on DOL about what PETA does or wants to do, appear to be long and apocalyptic assumptions drawn selectively from published material, although I agree there is some stuff they appear to advocate that most of us would disagree with. But the material that has been posted in reponse to my post doesnt justify the extremeness of veiws and statements I see expressed on DOL. And now its being suggested that I should leave DOL? You crack me up. Glad to provide some amusement, but I stand by my assertion that THIS IS A PUREBREEED DOGS FORUM, people like me PAY for our DOL membership and don't take kindly to people supporting organisations who actively campaign against breeders!

Does anyone else find this annoying "I can't be bothered actually READING the 16 pages on this topic, but I'll throw in my 2 cents' worth anyway" HAD you read the 16 pages, you would know that the OP has gone to considerable trouble & expense to contain his dogs, wheras his neighbours seem to have done nothing.

:D In my humble opinion, you couldn't do better (not that I'm at all biased )
-
Well, as a breeder, I would be VERY grateful that you cared enough to let me know. If the bitch is not actually pregnant, all the better, but I could then contact the owner and "gently" remind her of the desexing agreement (assuming there was one)
-
Or to form a more balanced perspective try the PETA website. You'll find quotes such as "There's no such thing as a responsible breeder." Meaning, rescue, don't buy from a breeder. Is that what PETA says, or what you say?
-
I won't be getting another dog for a while but, when I do, it will be a puppy bitch, either from a breeder registered on DOL or from one in New Zealand.

Darkrai - so sorry to hear this - I have been checking this off & on today hoping for some good news - my thoughts are with you & your family.

The comments here make me SO glad I didn't look at the site - I'm a bit of a wuss!

When my 1st Poodle broke her front leg (at around 16 weeks) I also gave her calcium supplements - the Vet seemed to think this helped the leg to heal correctly. It was just a fluke, originally, I had 2 litters of kittens at the time who were getting calcium supplement so Rana got it added to her food as well!

Limit Register And Travelling Overseas
poodlemum replied to nicolatu's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't see why not! Limited Register only means the dog cannot be bred or shown.
