Now, I wouldn't necessarily call that "time wasting". I have had people come & look at puppies who were quite honest about not being ready for a puppy right at that time. I'm happy for them to come at look at/play with the puppies - some have come back 2 or 3 litters later & bought a puppy. I'm always happy to spend time with people talking about my beloved breed - I could talk about Poodles all day

No, I don't think Hugh can be found in the bible. - that's for sure

Not if the water was up that high. Ever seen anyone freeze to death at the beach? Souff You've obviously not been to the Beach in Oregon, Souff - I nearly froze to death (and it was mid summer)

Hope all goes well, Chicken - you don't need this on top of all the sh*t you've gone through recently

- that is a totally stupid attitude - like the local newsagent who REFUSED to sell me several copies of the Saturday "Age" because I wanted them for my puppies (I was paying full price). Guess who got no more business from me? I would love to find a good local butcher (if anyone can recoomend one in Bairnsdale). I would much rather buy meat from a butcher than from the supermarket. I've usually found, in the past, that butchers are great people to deal with - usually a bit cheeky & full of jokes.

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
poodlemum replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
??? What stats and educated information is your obviously strong and undoubting opinion based on? I'd be interested to know. Obviously I am unable to come up with a list of numbers but I have owned a staffy 10 yrs ago and have known a fair number of people who did and not all were tossers, I can assure you of that. As I have said in the last post, is it not so that staffies were bred to fight dogs in the pit along with pitbulls? I'll just add my 2 cents worth to this debate - in my time as a Dog Obedience Instructor I NEVER saw a Staffy/Staffy Cross which wasn't DA - it is something of which most Obedience people are aware and allow for in classes (ie not letting Staffies getting too close to other dogs in "socialisation" exercises etc) ETA - almost all the Staffies I saw were great with people - just not with other dogs -
Whoever said non-dog people "just don't get it" was right - my dogs have ALWAYS played very rough - much growling, showing of teeth & snapping, but all in fun - you can tell when it gets serious - it's much quieter! Niki & his mother had a disagreement over some food once, which nearly got nasty, but my ex separated them. After that, they didn't "speak" to each other for about 3 days - I'm not kidding, if one came into the room the other would leave Finally, ex threatened to "knock their heads together if they didn't kiss & make up" and everything was ok after that.

Yes, especially when ALL the comments have been disapproving - maybe he'll wake up to himself!

Some of the old remedies really do work! I have a Poodle book from the 50s which recommends a small amount of plain yoghurt for puppies with diarrhea and it works a treat.

I really should offload some of the books I accumulated tyre kicking. Have got The Complete Standard Poodle for one! ;) Great book! That's the absolute BIBLE!! I particularly like it because she mentions "Wildwind" in the NZ section (my foundation bitch & stud were from Wildwind and I have known Karen Graham for many years) I had some people (friends of my Vet) come to look at puppies a few years back - they were adamant that they wanted a black boy but, every time thay came out, one of the white girls would run up to them & follow them around - guess what they ended up with! ;) I was at a show not long ago (not showing, just keeping a friend company) and spent about 1/2 hour talking to some people about Poodles in general - they made it clear upfront that they were not looking for a Standard but I was happy to talk to them and didn't consider them "time wasters" at all!

What Do You Think The Breed Of This Dog Is?
poodlemum replied to Wag'in's topic in General Dog Discussion
I got that email too I also vote Airedale -
Exactly! Also, people who come and look at the puppies and THEN tell me they're really looking for a Toy or Miniature - why come aand look at STANDARDS then? I am happy to talk to people about my breed, and even happy for them to come & look at my puppies if they tell me upfront that they are just "tyrekicking" at the moment.

Did you post a comment after all Jed? My comment has appeared now.

What Don't Most People Know About Your Breed?
poodlemum replied to RallyValley's topic in General Dog Discussion
grrrrr - that is MY pet hat, too Also: There is an historic reason for the Continental, or show clip They were actually bred for water retrieving Poodle puppies also like the "cockroach position" Where did the French Poodle bit come from anyway??? Also because it is generally held to be the National dog of France (those Froggies will claim anything ) -

My old GSP used to go & sit with someone if they weren't feeling well - we called him "Dr.Wings" (his name was Coolhand Bronze Wings) Poodles definately know when someone is feeling sad - after my marriage broke up, NIki was a great comfort to me when I was having a little cry

I have posted a comment - will be interested to see if it is published

What Breed To Recommend To Young Family?
poodlemum replied to ZAUBISTAR's topic in General Dog Discussion
Unless they are prepared to put A LOT of time & effort into training, I wouldn't recommend a Beagle - almost everyone I know who has got a Beagle has regretted it - they are escape artists, food-obsessed & hard to train because of their obsession with scent. I know I am biased but a Standard Poodle is a great family dog - puppies can be a bit "bouncy" but they are easy to train, the coat can be kept short and they are real "People" dogs. -
Very sensible post, as usual from Souff. It's all very well for people who weren't there to say what the boy should have done - in the heat of the moment one doesn't always think clearly. Poosible the attack DIDN'T last for an hour and a half, but I'm sure it SEEMED like that. Onece again the resident DOL know-it-alls have to carp & criticise - hope none of you are ever in this position.

Really? So if a breeder sells a puppy with entropian on all four lids, cherry eye, skin allergies, etc the puppy owner should wear those costs??? Sorry, but that is not fair. If someone forks out for a pedigree puppy, they should get something healthy!! If they dont want to send the pup back, and get a full refund, then yes, that is fair.If they wish to keep the pup,why should the breeder then have to keep paying for vet bills past the purchase price when they do have the option to send it back and get a refund. Dogs can get sick, develop problems same as a human can, despite being from healthy parents and i think to refund/replace or in this case pay for op,is fair. I know someone who has spent thousands on their dog who developed allergies to pretty much everything environmental-he requires weekly injections, sometimes twice a week of the specialist allergy injection, they have chosen to pay for it rather than send the dog back -their choice, they have to wear the cost. Flame suit firmly in place. The entropian is a hereditary? condition, the dermatitis, and the mites are environmental? The toys should not even be on the bill. Make sure the bill os on the vets own letterhead paper, and then get it all itemised. Mites, and fleas well any dog can get that in its enviroment, the dermatitis, well maybe that is environmental and even dietary too. Are we talking all these conditions picked up in the first week of the pup being taken home? If this all happened within the first week ( eg buyers first vet check and they can say the pup came with these things reasonably then maybe they can argue costs of mites etc, but not if after all this, and it sounds like a 1st check was not done by the buyer. As far as I am aware, there is some argument as to whether entropian is heridary or environmental. I agree with the offer to refund the price of the puppy. Who knows what will happen further along the line, where you will get some vets saying the problem is congenital or genetic & others saying it is environmental.
