  1. I think you need a Robo-Dog - every REAL dog seems to have some problem. You obviously have NO idea what Poodles are like!
  2. Then why are you supporting it here? My comment stands - you have been on this forum for just over a month - makes you a newbie in my book.
  3. Great post - in the 17+ year I have been a breeder it has probably cost me a lost of money but I look at it as something I love doing, I love Poodles & get a lot of satisfaction out of providing someone with a beautiful, loving pet - the majority of my puppies have been sold as pets. Oh, & it really pi$$es me off when these newbies come on with their holier-than-thou attitude telling us how we should be polite to someone who, let's face it, is supporting puppy farms - maybe they would benefit from reading the forum rules or going somewhere else!
  4. Pet shops leave the animals in the shops! They dont get leave the shop until they are sold. Isnt it against ANKC regs to sell to a pet shop? I know it used to be 15 yrs ago. It is certainly expressly forbidden for Dogs Victoria members ETA - Goofy, I also would like to know what happened to the unsold puppies, if they were not PTS
  5. As Christina said, it's hard to tell from the puppy coat, which tends to be fine & silky. If you can, have a look at both parents to see what their coats are like. I'm with you - I like the dense, profuse coat, although it can be harder to keep groomed.
  6. Don't beat around the bush, Cordelia, say what you really think I couldn't agree more with your opinion of him!
  7. Definitely a scam - the part about being "offshore" is a dead giveaway!
  8. Burke is a total idiot! I posted in another thread about the episode of his program where he was saying how great puppy farms are (that was the last "Burkes Backyard" I ever watched). A few weeks later I was watching one of those animal rescue shows & they showed some puppy farm dogs being rescued - they were in appalling condition. I was in tears & said to my husband "I hope Don Burke's proud of himself". He's just a complete oxygen thief, as far as I'm concerned. I wouldn't be surprise if he's involved in a puppy farm himself - considering the support he gives them.
  9. Garbage. Plenty of scammer sites rite here in Australia. People get sucked in by crap every day of the week. If that site is for real and the 'breeder' is offering lifetime guarantee, good on them in this litigious society. Saying that though - its probably nigerian. Those pesky little buggers are getting pretty creative. Exactly - I get a bit sick of this "USA bashing"
  10. He certainly knows all about horse sh*t ;) I well remember the program where he had pictures of the "well-socialised puppies" in puppy farms, compared to a "typical breeder's set-up" (dog in small chain fenced concrete run) :D ETA - that was the last "Burke's Backyard" I ever watched
  11. That is just the best news!!!!! Please give Charlie big hugs from Poodlemum & Poodles
  12. We only seem to have the super stores around here, we are 10 minutes from you. I always use a mates shop The Pet Bath Shop in Diamond Creek or Mitre 10 DC. I feed Artemis Power and get it at a good price. Look on ebay for a kennel and buy your crate if you are getting one on line.(Deals Direct) or similar. Remember never buy PVC toys as they can be fatal if ingested over a long period as are colured glazed ceramic water holders. Eltham Stockfeeds or Doreen (if they are still there). Diamond Valley Dog Obedience sells leads collars and stuff near cost, and pup through to advanced obedience classes are only $50 for a whole year sundays 9am Poulters Reserve Greensborough There are 2 off lead large ovals in DC also. There is a monthly Dogzonline meet at Kepala Pet Resort you will find info in the social thread. Where is you pup coming from? Chewey - Doreen Stockfeeds closed down ages ago - I used to get firewood from them. PetBarn's not too bad, price-wise & they often have specials. You think you guys have it bad - try living in East Gippsland! Nothing but 1 little Pet Shop in Bairnsdale, which I won't patronise, as they sell puppies & kittens, or the stockfeed place which only sells the crap food that farmers give their dogs.
  13. If crate training is cruel, why does Harrison go into his crate of his own accord? I always leave the door open and if he's feeling like a snooze or there are too many people about whom he doesn't know - he retreats to the crate as his "safe haven"
  14. This is a MAJOR factor that I try to impress on my puppy buyers - there is a particular dry food that vets LOVE to push (because they make a huge mark-up on it) which, IMO, is not good for medium to large puppies like Standard Poodles. It is problematical whether a breeder could enforce conditions as to diet etc and I certainly wouldn't be using the heavy-handed tactics this particular breeder is using, all we can do is try to steer puppy buyers in the right direction for their puppy.
  15. In NSW all puppies MUST be sold with registration papers, either main or limit and by law they MUST be microchipped BEFORE being sold. Not sure about the exact rules for the other states. Ethical breeders in all states have no reason to not provide papers with the puppies they sell. It was common for puppies to be sold without papers before the limit register was introduced but now it is available I cannot think of one legitimate reason that a breeder could have for selling puppies without papers. If you don't get papers to prove the parentage and health status of a purebred puppy, you may as well have bought a mongrel. The registration papers are the only guarantee that the puppy is what it is supposed to be. Good post! - Same applies in Victoria.
  16. You're joking, aren't you? No poodlemun people are quite sincere when they say microchipping is not working in the way it was intended. What sandgrubber has written is the truth. Of Course we all support microchipping but be aware it is not working because of the reason sand grubber has stated. I was referring to the comment about "code of ethics", which I took to mean that the poster considers a code of ethics unnecessary! I have always microchipped my puppies. Just because a system isn't perfect doesn't mean it isn't of some value. You might as well say that there's no point putting an ID tag on the dog's collar, because the tag might fall off, or the collar get lost!
  17. Well then , I suggest you reconsider your opinion - if this breeder is a member of Dogs Victoria all puppies must be registered & , under State law, must be microchipped
  18. I have always just charged for the cost of food. I also vote for leaving the dog with the breeder - so much less stressful, like a holiday visiting the rellies
  19. I've never had this particular problem, my problem was when we went to obedience or to a trial - the minute we get out on the grounds he or she would poo (mother & son, so perhaps it was hereditary )
  20. im sorry i had to answer this one, dogs are separate from chooks, pigs, cows and other farmed animals for food for humans! do you have pigs, cows and chooks in your bed on the sofa or in the car???????? some people do have pigs as pets but again, 1 in 3 house holds own a dog so there is no comparison what-so-ever. still don't know what you are getting at. Just another stirrer, I think. My point was that this is a DOG forum, not a chook or pig forum, we are interested in CANINE welfare. Because one or another type of animal is raised in poor conditions does not make it right for all animals.
  21. Please refer to the forum rules & remove the links!
  22. I am not defending puppy farming. What I am saying is that it is very tunnel-visioned to think that this treatment is not ok for dogs, but overlook the fact that it happens to other animals every day, and is being supported (through purchase of animal product) by the same people arguing that puppy farms are the most horrible idea on the planet. The fact is, it is PUPPY FARMS being discussed here, not chicken, pig or other livestock farms. No, I don't like the way some animals are treated but what's the point of dragging in a red herring? The flip side of your argument is, that if it's ok to raise chickens, pigs etc in these condition, it's ok to raise dogs in these condition. This is a PUREBREED DOG FORUM - we are talking about DOGS, not any other animals
  23. If you want to be an apologist for puppy farms, may I suggest that you're on the WRONG FORUM
