Really? I've never heard that before, I thought any command as long as it's in English is acceptable in the trial ring as per ANKC rules (and even that is at the discretion of the judge). OK - I haven't trialled for a while but, I was always taught that "drop" was the only acceptable command in Victoria - different states have different rules
-
In Victorian Dog Obedience Trialling "drop" is the ONLY acceptable command for getting a dog to lie down - maybe your Professional is originally from Victoria

Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
poodlemum replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had a bitch I bred returned to me for this reason Funnily enough, she HATED men, although she was fine before she went to her home at 8 weeks - I think she may have had a kick or 2 from the boyfriend. Sally was a lovely, affectionate bitch - I went on 2 breed 2 gorgeous litters from her - the stunning Beau was one of her puppies I know this is a sad topic but that made me laugh out loud! In a strange twist, my cat does that nearly every night and I haven't rehomed her...... yet. Yes - isn't that just what cats DO when they wake up bored in the middle of the night? My Siamese ninja cat used to do that. As far as the "moving" excuse goes - that's absolutely pathetic. My ex & I came to Australia from NZ 30 years ago & brought our Standard Poodle and our 2 cats with us - they went with us over to Perth & back again. I would just as soon thought of cutting my arm off & leaving it behind -
Why I Love (and Am Thankful For) My Dog
poodlemum replied to Pretty Miss Emma's topic in General Dog Discussion
I love Harrison because he came to me as a shy little boy, about 6 months old not long after I had lost my beloved Niki-Bear and help to heal the wound. He is now most definitely MY boy and gives me love and cuddles all the time. I love Dylan because he was the NAUGHTIEST puppy in the litter and somebody had to I also love him for accepting and bonding with Mr.Poodlemum -
So sorry to hear this, Loraine

Puck is GORGEOUS

All I can say, judging from 17+ years of breeding dogs, is that I agree with those who say don't touch one of these puppies - something sounds seriously wrong with the bahaviour of the puppies (although they COULD have been tired) but definitely with the behaviour of the dam
-
Harrison when I got him (6 months old) Just over 12 months - with his daughter Now
-
Dylan, 3 weeks 12 weeks Now

Yep, it's definitely gone "poof" - much have got a lot nastier than it was when I last looked

Yeah, toy Poodles - vicious little f**kers

I love "Homeward Bound" , although it always makes me cry. 8 Below was a great movie, but very harrowing - not sure if I could watch it again. Can't believe no-one's mentioned "Best In Show"

Not at all addictive sophira

What a great idea - a lovely tribute to Benson

One of the best ones I've ever seen was an ad at the local shops for puppies: "Maltese Shiatsu cross

I used to have a "German Sh*thead Pointer"

Thanks for the kind words about Beau - his temperament is/was as gorgeous as is looks. Unfortunately, he resides with my ex-husband, so I haven't seen him for a couple of years

Well, naturally, I'm going to recommend a Standard Poodle - low to no shedding Very low shedding - short to medium-length hair (can hand-strip or clip if necessary) only long if you have it in the "Continental" show clip - social (people and dogs) Extremely - because they love being admired :D - easy to train/intelligent Most definitely - obedient hmmmmmm - moderate prey-drive Fairly moderate - non-hyperactive puppies can be "bouncy" but the adults are very laid-back Probably the biggest issue, since you are considering showing, is the coat maintenance - I've never shown, so my Poodles are always in "Sporting" clip

The first litter I bred when I had both sire & dam I separated them when the pups were born. However, Sascha fretted when Lennon wasn't there so I let Lennon in on a supervised basis - they were fine. After a while Lennon used to get into the whelping box with the pups when Sascha went for a pee or to eat Sascha was also fine with the cats getting close & looking at the puppies. That litter, and the subsequent litters, grew up with both Mum & Dad looking after them!

How Did Everyone Come Up With Their Dol Names?
poodlemum replied to huskies4life88's topic in General Dog Discussion
My lovely GSP was Coolhand Bronze Wings - always just called "Wings" I love GWPs - met some for the 1st time about 2 years ago -
Maybe you shouldn't post cr*p like this when you obviously have no idea what you're talking about  of course they do! I am so sick of comments like this, if ethical registered breeders didn't advertise where most people look then those puppy buyers would never be any the wiser on how to get a good quaility puppy. x 2
