Exactly the same thing happened to me with my last litter - Sophie continued bleeding for several days - I took her to the vet after 2 days but everything was fine - she settled down about day 3 (was a litter of 11)

Boarding Kennels In East Gippsland?
poodlemum replied to poodlemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Thanks, Erny - found one in Metung -
I have just read in the local paper that Gambelon Kennels in Mt.Taylor is closing from 9th December. We are supposed to be going up to Melbourne on the 10th & I intended to board the dogs there. I know there are a number of DOLers in the East Gippsland area - does anyone know of a good boarding kennel?

If it's an umbilical hernia & can be pushed back in easily I wouldn't worry about it too much. I've had puppies over the years born with umbilical hernias - my bitch was a bit rough with the cords. One dog I kept had quite a pronounced hernia but I massaged it back in regularly & it came right. Another bitch had a similar hernia - her owner didn't do the massage thing, but the hernia was repaired when she was spayed. The breeder certainly should have advised you about the hernia and what to do about it!

Agree 100% - the person who objected was out of line - the rule is NO DENIGRATION of purebred dogs, not NO DISCUSSION of crossbreeds!

Did You Buy Your Puppy From A Less Than Reputable "breeder"?
poodlemum replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
my very first dog came from a BYB and he was a mix. i was only 13 at the time. now i have a rescue mixed breed with breeds we don't know he's a true bitsa (we think kelpie cross pointer cross.... ) lol and i wouldn't change that for all the pedigrees in the world. they always says that pedigree breeders are the best snobs, and they don't like crosses, but im here to say that we LOVE ALL DOGS no matter their origin or breed and that includes cross breeds too. Very true - as long as people don't insist on calling them by stupid "Designer" names Reading this thread makes me realise even more how very, very lucky I was with my 1st Poodle. Back when we lived in New Zealand my OH (at the time) & I wanted a dog, as we had been burgled a few times. We wanted one that would get along with our cats. A friend of ours, who also had cats, had a great little miniature Poodle & we commented that a Poodle would be perfect for us (as I am also allergic to dog hair) if only they were bigger - we had never HEARD of Standard Poodles Somehow we got onto a breeder who had a 12 week old bitch who was due to go to a show home in NSW but did not go for some reason. Rana was the most intelligent well-behaved dog ever - everyone adored her and her breeder was one of NZ's TOP Poodle breeders - she was a terrific mentor to us when we decided to become breeders (at her suggestion) and we ended up getting our foundation Bitch and Dog from her and a few years later got another bitch from her as well. She is my ideal when it comes to Registered, Ethical breeders and I strive to be as helpful & supportive to my puppy buyers as she was to me. -

Who is 'we'.....normal people? It's a sexual fetish, it has nothing to do with belief systems. Exactly - people who do or watch this are more akin to pedophiles or people who practice bestiality -
If Your Dog Was A Band Or Pop/rock Artist
poodlemum replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Well, obviously Harrison & Dylan are 2 fifths of The Traveling Wilburys  -
I must admit I would like to hear their reasoning - seems a bit harsh to me. I HAVE rehomed a bitch, about 2 years ago - we never really bonded, although she was a lovely girl. She was also an escape-artist and led the other dogs into mischief. I found a home for her where she had human company most of the time, has her owner's grandchildren to play with & spoil her and she couldn't be happier - it was a great outcome allround.

Wow - this thread has got sooooo far of-topic As Snooks said, good entertainment value, though.

;) A HUMAN BEING IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY DOG. Not in MY book (and using CAPS is very rude)

Glad Dudley has settled in well - it's a wrench when you have to rehome a loved dog and didn't need to be made harder by some of the d*ckheads on this forum! Hope you will stay on DOL when you move to NZ and post some pictures of your property & new dog. Do you have any particular area in mind? I used to live in Ahipara, which is on the 90 mile beach at the top of the North Island - beautiful spot!
-
equerry - I know what it's like having to re-home a much-loved dog (and I got some of the same sh*t you're getting, from some of the same lovely people on here when I asked about it). I'm sure sure what to advise as regards the new dog. Obviously, if you are going to wait until you move to NZ snakes will not be an issue. I would suggest that you contact breeders and try to get a puppy that has been raised in a home with cats. I have always had cats - my puppies have been introduced to them at about 4 weeks and I have never had an issue with any of my Poodles being cat-aggressive, so I'm sure it would work for other breeds. I'm sorry you have had the worst from some of the ignorant people on this forum - wouldn't it be nice to be all-wise & all-knowing, as they obviously are? Take advice from Poodlefan & ignore the others!

Dogue De Bordeaux Puppy Purchased Concern
poodlemum replied to AshSky's topic in General Dog Discussion
That was my point, as well & I totally understand why the OP got a bit nervous! I'm used to getting phone calls from puppy buyers for at least the 1st week after the pups go to their new homes. It's only natural that new owners might be concerned or puzzled by what is perfectly natural behavior by a puppy and need an experienced person to assure them that all's well. Nothing wrong with going on a holiday after raising a litter (I certainly felt like one after my last litter of 11 ) but surely, in these days of mobile phone roaming etc there's no real problem in remaining contactable! AND, if your selling a litter as registered, surely you would make sure that your CC membership is current? I have been a registered breeder for 17 years and have always managed to ensure that my Dogs Victoria membership is current! My membership lapsed because they forgot to send me a renewal notice!! It wasn't lost in the mail, they clean forgot! Very annoying. I knew it was due but they for some reason were unable to accept my payment. It was a frustrating experience and took several phone calls to clear up. They didn't want my money?? Lol. As for going on holidays, my breeder went away for a showing weekend but let me know and gave me contact details for other breeders she trusted in case I had an emergency. I think a little communication goes a long way Dogs Victoria stuff something up - I don't believe it I sympathise with you - they seem to be the most DISorganised organisation I've ever dealt with. -

I don't know about you, but I take my phone with me when I go on holiday and if a puppy buyer was trying to contact me I would certainly get back to them (unless I was in deepest, darkest Tanzania with no mobile reception). I think the OP has perfectly good reason to be concerned. -
Just Came Back From The Vet And Terribly Sad
poodlemum replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
I can understand how you feel - my Heart dog, Niki, also had a tumour - his was in his stomach, the Vet operated but Niki did not survive the aftermath of the operation - he was older than your girl (11) but still it was a shock to me - I expected to have him around for so much longer. I went into a very deep depression for about 3 months afterwards - I hope you will be OK - all I can tell you is that you gradually learn to accept it, you never REALLY get over it. -
My favourite photo (a professional shot) of my "Heart Dog" Niki You can't see much of him :D but this is my ratbag dog Dylan - why did I keep him out of 11 puppies?

Good news - Charlie is very lucky to have such a loving & caring owner!

They are gorgeous!!

Gorgeous - She would have to be a Kiwi with a name like that!

Good on you for coming back on - most people DO mean well, and are happy to support people who want to breed & do the right thing. As I said, there is a good deal of knowledge on this forum, if you want to know anything, you couldn't do better than ask Jed and/or Poodlefan I so wish I had access to their knowledge when I bred my 1st litter. I did have support & mentoring from the breeder of my bitch, but she is in NZ, so not always contactable. I have related the story of my disastrous 1st litter in the breeders forum. If I had access to DOL back then I'm sure things would have turned out a lot better. Beckly85 - don't forget the puppy pictures when the time comes but, in the meantime, any pictures of your dogs are always welcome!
-
I apologise if I was a bit hasty in my judgement - we do get people coming on here every now & then just to stir things up, as I'm sure you'll find out if you hang around You sound as though you are prepared to do things right and certainly this forum is a great resource and repository of knowledge. There is, however, one definite requirement if you do breed - we need to see lots of puppy photos!

The OP is reading this topic right now, perhaps she/he wouldlike to respond.
