  1. I see your point, but there will always be people who want purebred dogs (and the paperwork to PROVE they are purebred) surely this is what this site's all about!
  2. My ex & I became breeders by chance - we really wanted another Standard Poodle and, at that time, could not find any in Australia that we liked. We approached the breeder in NZ from whom we had bought our first Poodle, who had recently gone to the Bridge and then another bitch. She suggested that we have a litter from the young bitch and was there for us as a mentor throughout the whole experience. Although the first litter we bred was a very harrowing experience (due mainly to bad advice and questionable practices by our Vet) we persevered and went on to breed another 7 litters of beautiful puppies - mostly pets, some doing Obedience, some Tracking and other disciplines and one who is doing well in the show ring.
  3. I like a "pogo" of Poodles - also a "Chutzpah" of Poodles
  4. Have you tried advertising in interstate papers? Not everyone has Internet but they do look at the paper if they're looking for a puppy. I have had some success advertising in the Adelaide papers and the Hobart Mercury.
  5. Or, the version I've seen - Shiatsu A distinct possibility!
  6. That's odd - in Vic it is a LOT more expensive to register puppies once they are 3 months or older

    Rash

That looks good! (mind you, I'm still sure a Poodle would put on the "sad face" whilst wearing it

    Rash

That sounds like an excellent alternative to the EC - most dogs seem to really HATE wearing an EC. I wish there was a picture of it, though. To the OP - I would also recommend something of this nature to stop your dog licking the wound. If the wound is dry but the rash is still there, you could try "Curash" powder (for nappy rash) - I've found it to be very effective.
  9. I'm not sure about other States, but in Victoria they would be contravening the code of Dogs Victoria (and hopefully it's the same with other States Canine Control Councils. Sharr - I would check the regulations of the relevant State CC & report them. It makes me feel sick at heart that this person is, presumably, a registered Poodle breeder, as they are breeding Poodle Xs
  10. Great advice - a lot of Obedience Schools/Theorists will say it's more about "training the Trainer"! When I was an Obedience Instructor that's what we always told people - we don't train your dog - we train YOU! There is also the fact that dogs tend to bond to the person who trains them, which pretty much makes it futile getting someone else to train YOUR dog!
  11. Great news about Daisy - good luck trying to keep her quiet for 2 weeks
  12. Hope Daisy is better soon - poor girl
  13. Don't ask me how much my "free" dog, Harrison has cost me (not that I begrudge a cent of it) LizT - for your sister betting a purebred Poodle! Like the old saying "Nothing in life is free"! Exactly - or, as we used to say, "there ain't no such thing as a free lunch" Of course, I love Harrison to bits and I think he loves me too! (and wasn't he just the most GORGEOUS baby?)
  14. I've been to the Pet Expo several times (when I lived in Melbourne) well worth going - some of the breed clubs have stalls (I know th Poodle Club usually does) to introduce the public to their breed - one time I was there they had a Flyball demonstration, which looked like great fun for the dogs.
  15. hehe - I thought you were serious - my brother's brother-in-law was a dentist and actually MADE a set of dentures for his dog (don't know how the dog lost it's teeth)
  16. I was going to ask this - you beat me to it, Persephone. I would definitely be contacting the breeder, if only to ask if they have had any previous experience of this. To the OP - we're a friendly lot in the Poodle Thread: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...15&st=19650
  17. Don't ask me how much my "free" dog, Harrison has cost me ;) (not that I begrudge a cent of it) LizT - for your sister betting a purebred Poodle!
  18. On the other side of the coin I had a Vet, many years ago, who was SOOO lovely and had such a nice manner that my Standard Poodle LOVED going to the Vet!
  19. While that's a good point, and while it may not have physically harmed the dog - I'd probably punch someone if I saw them drag and lift my dog up from the neck by the lead... vet or not, especially when they haven't tried other options or asked me to try to get them to on the scales myself. It's just not what I consider the right thing to do, and not the kind of care that I expect to be given to my dogs. Totally agree. While it may not physically hurt them, it may affect them psychologically if they are not used to rough handling. My vet would always ask me or OH to put our dogs on the scales. We also hold our dogs for vaccinations, removals of stiches etc. When my dogs are unwilling to go on the scales, we have physically lifted them. And that includes my GR. If someone treated my dogs like that in front of me, I would seriously worry what they would do behind my back. I would worry about that too - one of my dogs was TERRIFIED of groomers after he was obviously treated very roughly. He was a very well-behaved dog, obedience trained, so I can't see that it would have been necessary to be rough with him. Luckily I found another groomer who was good at handling nervous/frightened dogs and he eventually looked forward to being groomed.
  20. Just tried unticking 'mute" on my speakers - should work now
  21. Well, the Vet showed that he wanted the custom in a very strange way, then. I can't believe that you are defending this behavior - to me it is totally unacceptable.
  22. Did you get any sound with yours? I've looked at the Poodle one via Facebook, but there's no sound.
