  1. If we don't ask "why" some people do these sorts of things we can never work out how to stop it in society. She shouldn't of had the dog that is clear. We don't know anything else for sure.
  2. Oh please, she knows no better?? Can't stop herself?? Unless she was psychotic or severely intellectually disabled there is no excuse for this. I can't believe how there's always some bleeding heart to come with an exuse for these low lives. She should be gaoled. I'm not excusing this repulsive act for a moment, traciemc, it's sickening me too. I think she probably is psychotic or mentally sick, because something has made her believe it's ok to hurt that dog. I just don't play judge and jury like you.
  3. I'm no expert but this woman probably grew up with violence and she is keeping the cycle going because she knows no better or can't stop herself.
  4. How about FRIENDOMINE or FRENDOMYNE ?
  5. If it was Warton Rd in the early morning, guilty as charged. Mine all learn the lead walking in the pack, and the rules for walking in the pack are clear and don't get challenged. If you can set it up this way, you can walk a lot of dogs together without much formal training. But you have to be prepared to serve as an anchor if you accidentally come across something irresistable, like off lead dogs or a bunch of stray geese. Wow six Labs, but could you walk six TERRIERS !!
  6. It just gets worse ! Walking two of my dogs yesterday, end of a lovely walk in beautiful sunshine after all the rain, 100 metres from home and an off lead Lab comes up the back of us growling and I am forced to yank my two very well behaved dogs and myself onto the road Stupid owner appears about four houses away and yells out, you guessed it, "Don't worry he doesn't bite". I had to yell at the Lab to get him to stop, and by then my dogs were in protective mode, ready to take him on. No "sorry" for scaring the s#@t out of you and your dogs. He and his mate got a mouthful from me, all I could do. I've learnt 2 things from times like this... I don't think some people will ever learn, so we have to be ready for them and I'm not afraid to tell off idiots who put me or my dogs in danger
  7. There are too many "hard" and "tough" characters in the Dog World. I think you need to believe in what you are showing, work hard, know your standard, that way you should know your dog's weaknesses and strength and not let your EGO get caught up in it all. I have seen some shocking tantrums over the years, and some really nasty behaviour. It is very, very rarely you see this with Junior Handlers who have the good sense to laugh off a loss and congratulate a win.
  8. I like Snooza bed products because they are very good quality and they fix them for you if they get worn out in time. They are not cheap though
  9. Yep they certainly do, save the life, rake in the money and the destroy the dog. Show me the stats. I have heard so much bad press about the RSPCA, please show me the statistics so I can make up my mind. What stats do you actually want? They don't actually keep files on dogs they got lots of publicity = lots of donations, and then, when they couldn't use them any more, knocked them off. Strange how dogs make the paper as having loverly temperaments blah blah, and once the publicity is finished, get the chop because they were actually in bad health, or "didn't pass the temperament test". Why not google RSPCA on the forum, and see what you find. why not write to them and ask what happened to this dog? Ask about Clifford too. I know a lot more cats than dogs are euthanized, it must be like hell for them. I saw a doco on work stress in the Queensland RSPCA and their very quick ( bad ) method of temperament assessment on dogs. The RSPCA and others like it must do some good though ? The stats I want to see are the numbers of dogs in, numbers eu and number rehomed. I am well aware of the madness of places like PETA ( rates of up to 90% eu ) but what I want to know is should we brand places like the RSPCA as bad as them ?

  11. I know a lot of people are anti RSPCA but they are lifesavers
  12. There used to be an exhibitor who used to say "Well done, well done " so loudly it was aggressive. My experience is that showing dogs can bring out the very worst in some fragile personalities. If only people would study their standards, know them off by heart, then use objective observation and accept that good dogs sometimes belong to people they don't like. People seem to stick faithfully to their friends and accept whatever is shown by them as good, so often. The old game of my dog's better than your dog.
  13. Thanks for your comments, I thought incontinence in a speyed bitch is caused by hormonal inbalance, enter Stilboestrol !! It's not a surgery related thing is it ?
  14. When you say the lack of hormones does seem to calm the bitches down do you mean this as a good thing or that they lose some of their personality and sort of get old ?
  15. I'm asking for opinions about speying bitches. Does the possibility of incontinence in bitches after speying outweigh the health advantages of speying ? Do breeders always get their older bitches speyed or do they reach an age where it makes no difference to their health ? Do breeders find the best reason for speying the bitches is a calmer home if you own an entire dog ?
  16. Can someone please help by recommending the best puppy pre school in or near the St Kilda area ? I need somewhere that is practical, fun and confidence building for both the dog and owner. Somewhere where the the trainers are happy, experienced and knowledgable and don't talk down to the owners.
  17. Would it just make a lot more sense to give the dogs bones from the butcher ?
  18. The supplier told me they were labelled only as Pork Flavour, whatever that means. I used to work in a shopping centre where a gift shop had cute stuffed toy cats with realistic fur. These are now known to be from cat and or dog origin from China.
  19. My dogs love the skinny rolled "rawhide" chews. They are a bit hard to get, but I tracked down a produce store that has packs of them. I phoned up the supplier on the label to ask what they are and she said she wasn't sure but they are "pork flavour". When I asked her where they come from she said "Oh China, all our dog chews come from China". A friend of mine said there is a good chance the chews we feed our dogs from China are dog or cat hide. Does anyone know more about this ?
  20. Thank you for all the ideas. I think maybe for me the oiled hardwood will be a good choice. I guess every house had to have wall to wall carpet when the house was built. After a few dogs and pups well you can imagine,
  21. somebody told me the dogs nails would damage the boards ? I keep mine dremelled but is the wood that fragile ? I've had a bit checked where I peeled back the carpet and it is Tasmanian Oak. Maybe softer timbers are the ones that mark ?
  22. I want to get rid of some yukky carpet in our 50 year old home. I think the carpet is original, it is well beyond it's use by date. We peeled back a bit of it and the floors is Tasmanian Oak, and it looks very good. What is the best flooring for a home that has a few dogs, all active, that are inside a lot ? I don't think tiles or vinyl will suit the look of the home, so I guess it's a wood or carpet alternative. Any ideas for the best to clean and keep looking good ?
  23. Wow, this was showing for the seasoned hey !? Could someone please tell us the numbers approx. for the shows and if there were a lot of scratchings ?
