I like the fact it will be based on challenge points for BOB and that it is capped at 40 shows/results (less would have been better, but hey it's a start) So if a dog now wins BOB and there is no other entries they will be entitled to 6 points compared with 1 under the old system? Yes No idea That what will be happening now... Beat 2 dogs, you get 8 points Beat no other dogs, you get 6 points As apposed to the old way where 10 could have be entered and you are the only one who showed, Your CC says 6 points, yet the DOL point score would have said 10. Sorry disagree ... take the example of my boys's daughter ... she won the whippet national with a total entry of 300 from memory, then won anothe specialty in NSW with 150 dogs ... that's 450 dogs (guessing the numbers here), so under the old system she'd have got 450, whereas under the new system she'd get 50 points right? As I said I don't think that there is a better way of doing it to what has been suggested, but those with bigger breeds will be capped at 25 points regardless of what they beat. I have heard of some breeds entering in extra dogs in attempts to get extra points on the pointscore (good luck to them if it means that much and they have extra money to throw about) but I don't think I've ever seen it happens in our breed. And on the flip side if they win a national where there are hundreds of entries they get 25 regardless? I didn't like the old system where baby puppies and absentees are included, but not sure I'm keen on this way either. The ideal for me would be to count the number of actual dogs beaten but that raises the issue of how do you actually control/police it? I'll follow with interest how this will affect each different breed I do agree with Sway and I'm loving the capped results (I also agree that less would have been even better).

Does anyone still have a catalogue from this show please? I'm after the starting number for Group 4 and the start and end number for whippets please. Thanks Elly Mooney

Where did you buy your brush from? I've bought heaps from them, eg vetbed and crates etc, and they always come in the cheapest by a long shot! I'm excited with the CC range as now I can get my shampoos cheap as well!!

I agree but there is more chance if you do take them to the show ... Personally I only breed every 2 years (as did my parents before me) so taking time off is not a yearly occurrence for us ... When I last bred I continued to go to the shows but my dogs stayed home until the pups were born and had had their first shots before I started showing again ... I went to handle other peoples dogs and the protocol was that when I got home clothes were taken off in the garage, shoes were disinfected and I had a shower before I came into contact with my dogs... Yes at the end of the day there is disease and infection everywhere but there is less chance of that occurring in my back yard and for me it's about minising the risk. Each to their own I guess

The vet confirmed that the bitch had picked up an infection while at a show ... In a perfect world if people left dogs at home that were sick ie kennel cough or parvovirus etc I probably wouldn't have a problem, but we all know that isn't the case ... Just my preference to not take the risk

Years ago we whelped a litter for a newcomer to our breed ... 8 weeks later we were at the vets putting down the entire litter that had been born deaf because the bitch had been taken to a show whilst in whelp to win a pretty blue ribbon by her owner... The memory still haunts me to this day and there is no way in hell I would put my bitch or her puppies lives in jepordy for a sash ... Yes the bitch probably is fit enough to compete, but with parvovirus etc are you seriously willing to gamble the lives of your dogs??? For Christ sake it's not like it's a long period either!! Ah ... in that case you definately had cause to bring it to someones attention.

You say class in breed ... so you had already won your class?? Did the judge go over your dog then? If the judge has previously gone over your dog then they are within their rights to make a decision without re-examining your dog! Hope that makes sense?

The judge was in the wrong ... the steward also in the wrong as I would have thought that they would be required to tell the judge to examine the exhibit and a good steward would be keeping an eye on what was going on ... If it were me, I would have complained to the steward that you had not been judged and then let the committee know. As you said the class has awarded and can't be rejudged (even though technically it hasn't but you get what I mean), but I would still let them know so as the judge doesn't do it again to another exhibitor ... I won runner up best in comp the other week and the judge didn't even touch my dog!! She had judged males and another judge had done the females ... I think it was a case of nerves etc and just forgetting to put the dog on the table, but others around just reminded the judge that she had to go over the dogs and we all moved on (I mean seriously, what if my dog had had a bad bite or something!! Whilst I own smooth coats and you can see nearly everything there are some things you need to check!!) ... not sure I'd be so forgiving if it happened to me at a Championship show though!!

I've got a 3 door Holden Barina and you can slide the trolley behind the seats when the back is still up, or put in in the back when the seats are down. Love it and super cheap to get to dog shows!

Whippet testicles are renowned for going up and down until they are nine to twelve months of age in some cases so I wouldn't stress about it at all ... its not uncommon to see dogs in the minor and puppy classes being fliped to show the judge a testicle that goes up and down. They are like yo-yos at this age!! Most judges that know the breed will give a handler a chance to push it down if it goes up ... one thing I would suggest though is that when you put your pup on the table don't lift him under his tummy as this with stretch his cords and make them go up. Scoop him up around the legs instead if that makes sense until they are settled and where they should be!
