Where I work (vet clinic) it is spelt wrong also. I've brought it to the managers attention and asked for it to be changed. No-one else thinks it's a big deal though. Something so small that I think is an embarrassment to the clinic. Up there with a ferret coming up as a "rodent" on our computer system, which they are not at all.

BUMP!!!

As a vet nurse I rarely see a labrador that is a nice lean healthy weight. One that was in a few weeks ago looked fantastic. Lean, healthy with a beautiful coat. He was only 3yo, but had lost 12kg in the last year. Another one we had in two weeks ago (who managed to deglove her tail) was 51.2kg She isn't a very large dog. Her ideal weight would have been about 28kg I'd say. She is so overweight she needs help to get up off the floor. She is now on a strict diet though, and her owner is taking it seriously which is promising.

Stunning, Cat Friendly, Whippet X Still Looking For Home
Swizzlestick replied to doctorjoel's topic in General Dog Discussion
I thought the same thing Danois. Doesn't look terrlbly whippety to me either. Looks kind of kelpie x to me from that pic. Maybe it's just that photo -
Dogs that come from the pounds here in Perth (not rescue places, I'm talking council pounds here) generally don't come with anything other than a years registration. Mostly no vaccination/desexing. To get a dog with those you need to go through a rescue organisation. Oh OK. I didn't realise this. Thanks for clarifying

Ideas On Entertaining Puppy After Desexing
Swizzlestick replied to Bubitty's topic in General Dog Discussion
That's what I tell clients too. It's better to go for a short walk on lead that to go absolutely nuts at home. Controlled walking is fine, it's more the jumping up and stretching that is problematic. I usually recommend quiet the night of surgery and the following day, but if the dog is going crazy then a walk is fine -
Wouldn't the kelpie he got in the first place have been speyed if she came from the pound?
-
I had the same problem. Their was an issue with their email which is now all sorted. Luckily for me I had their phone number too from previous jammies I'd purchased, so got hold of them that way. This was all about this time last year, but is all good now. PS. Sounds like a nice coat. Can't wait to see the pics.

I can see why you get the giggles. That sure is an interesting way to say "cross bred" Makes me laugh when someone says their dog is a maltese shih tzu x cavoodle or the like. So basically your dog is a fluffy MUTT!!!

Back Yard - How Small Is Too Small?
Swizzlestick replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
I don't think a yard that size is too much of an issue at all. You've said he will be walked twice daily, and as he sleeps most of the day anyway, I think he should cope. I believe too much emphasis is placed on yard size sometimes. As long as a dog is mentally and physically active every day, the yard he is kept in shouldn't play a big part. -
yep me too Me three. I think they were just saying what they were.

Weavels (sp?) perhaps?

Agree that it can be a bit harder with cross breeds, but the couple I've mentioned are pure breds. These vets admitted to having never actually seen an Afghan in the flesh, just in a book. Yet they felt the need to rant about his weight. A few days before all this took place I'd had Walter at a show (just watching) and received numerous comments from very experienced Afghan people on his great condition (esp. as I was a first time Afghan owner and many let them get too fat). Very annoying when the majority of the public who meet him comment about being too thin. Gets old after a while.
-
That can depend on the Vet as well. I have seen some dogs that I would describe as fat verging obese, yet informed by the owners the Vet has told them the dog looks fine, weight wise. If the Vets go by scale and then by the average only, or if the Vet is going by what they are used to seeing, this can give misleading information to the dog owner. I tend to agree with Erny on this one. I've had multiple vets get quite stuck into me about Sir Walter being too thin. He's an Afghan Hound damn it and he is in perfect condition thankyou very much! I've worked with many vets who I've heard tell clients their dog is the perfect weight. Hmmm...still look quite overweight to me. Ribs non existant, no waist or tuck. We had a stunning Labrador in the other day who had lost a whopping 12kg. He looked fanbloodytastic, and I heard the voice coming from the consult room telling the owner the dog is now too skinny and needs to gain at least 3kg. Looked perfect imo and that of others around me. I definitely would not always live by what many vets say.

Have you looked through the DOL classifieds? Not sure what's there, but worth a try. Newspapers, maybe the weekly times or trading post?
-
Yeah we've had a few cases with parvo in over the last few weeks. One was a 7wk old, the others were adults. I know a couple of our clients who are breeders aren't taking any dogs to this show, just in case.
-
No I haven't seen it. Sounds like a good one to watch though. Thanks To be honest, I'm not really phased about no recall with him. He just stays on the lead when we are off our land. My two whippets are great off lead, fantastic recall. My greyhound I used to own (Phoebe RIP) also had excellent recall. She would heal even when the kangaroos were within 50m of us.
-
What I need in the second one is " I have accepted the problem, it's so minor I just live with it" LOL Having an Afghan Hound means almost no chance of recall (the odd few do). My boy will never be offlead in public, but it is such a common thing with them being a sighthound. My solution = on lead unless home!

I'm another who doesn't see any Mal at all.
