You can actually train a dog to walk nicely on a piece of rope.........it's not so much the tools, but the training method and the tools just make the job a bit easier. I know that - and thats where I'm hoping to get to with her, eventually, but without the tools, its physically impossible to hold her, you'll end up flat on your face. I cant wait until the day I can walk her on a flat collar, but to get there I need tools!

I would like to see anybody walking my 50kg puller puppy on a flat collar lol I started off using a sporn harness with Ruby, which I absolutely loved, I could walk her with my baby finger, but our trainer doesn't like the sporn (says it hurts the dog) and so we moved onto a Harmony Harness - which I didnt like at all and compared to the sporn, it wasn't nearly as effective. I now have Ruby on a Black Dog Training Halter, which is very effective, but Ruby ABSOLUTELY hates it. Cosmolo and 4 Paws, a question for you both: Having tried (without success) the harmony harness, is there any point in trying the sense-sation harness that you both posted about?

One other, very important thing that HAS to be mentioned about Leonbergers.... ...and Water!!! .......if its there, they WILL find it and do all they can to get their entire body into it! So you must be prepared for water everywhere! At one point, I was considering filling the bottom of the water bowl with concrete to try keep it on the ground, but then I realised it wouldn't stop the paws from just digging it out They're the best...you'll wonder how you ever lived without them! I can't wait to get a second one!

Hey all, I'm just about to buy some Interceptor Spectrum for Ruby. The largest dose available for Interceptor, like most of the monthly tablets/chewables, is for dogs 22.5-45kg. The manufacturer website states for dogs over 45kgs, to use an appropriate combination of tablets. So if Ruby is now 50kg, I should give her one of the above tablets, as well as a 4.5-11kg tablet, right? I just wanted to make sure, because I was also told to just give her 1 and a half of the 22.5-45kg tablets... So for those of you with dogs over 45kg...what do you do Thanks!

Epiotic Ear Cleaner Whats A Better Alternative
outatime replied to mokhahouse's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My vet stocks both epiotic and PAW and said to try PAW as its much more gentle. Also, they said not to squirt it into the ears!! - Use something like one of those round cotton wool wipes (not cotton wool balls) - put some on there and then use your finger to kind of swirl it around inside the dogs ear wiping the inside of the ear...that way the dog doesn't get a blast of liquid in his ear so he wont shake it all out, and you use much less of it so no drowning! Give that a go with the epiotic (just because you already have it) and if it works then try a bottle of PAW. Edit: definitely buy online - much much cheaper!! -
Epiotic Ear Cleaner Whats A Better Alternative
outatime replied to mokhahouse's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use the PAW ear cleaner... http://www.paw4pets.com/ear-care.html instead of epiotic ...PAW is much much nicer! -
I recently bought a box of the Billinghurst patties - the beef ones, and my dog was HORRIFIED with it and wouldnt eat it - this is a dog who scoffs down anything and everything in sight??? In the past I have bought from the Pet Chef in Midland who does his own mix and Ruby has liked that, just havent had time to get more from them. They told me the bones are ground into the mixture (which just looks a little like very colourful mince ) So I'm guessing that ground up bone defeats the purpose?? At the moment Ruby gets Eagle Pack kibble in the morning and at night she gets either brisket bones or a mixture of mince (human grade) and veges.

Proheart6--or 12--can Be A Killer
outatime replied to goldens's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm sorry for your loss. and I'm very glad that I refused (despite a few vets and vet nurses telling me there is nothing wrong with it) to give Ruby the proheart injection. -
I *think* I saw it at Osborne Park a little while ago...but I'm not 100% sure.

Veanna and LMWS, I'm so sorry for your tragic loss. He was such a gorgeous boy, I always enjoyed reading about him and seeing the wonderful photo's of him. RIP Odin -
I feed them frozen to Ruby...she likes to swallow without chewing, so giving them frozen makes her chew a whole lot more and makes it last much longer!
