Right I have not been to one of these for ages but I am going to try again! Louie is a bit of a shit so I will need to be careful with him getting in others faces but it would be good to get them out socializing with some different dogs from who they normally see
-
Oh My pugs just don't like to run fullstop

Right made my decision. I will buy a Lumix - as that way I won't get confused in the shop Hope it helps my hopeless photography skills!!!
-
Sorry about the slow reply - too distracted by huga's photos Okay I will look into the lumix. What on earth is a swivel screen helen? How do I get more creative with it!?

My little sister got the photographer's gene in my family - demonstrated by the fact that I managed to smash the lense in of our old canon point and shoot So we need a new one. It needs to take photos. Nice photos would be a bonus. I understand we won't get the SLR 'look' with a point and shoot but I would like something as close to as possible and am willing to pay extra for it. So could you please recommend a camera for me? Make and model please! Probably no more than $500 unless it is extraordinary Don't know if I need to provide any more information but your help is appreciated

Renae's 8th Birthday 22.7.2010
Pug Hugger replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Happy Birthday Renee you gorgeous girl! (And the facebook request is from me ) -
Phew - I only just came accross this thread. So glad that Hudson is doing okay, he is a gorgeous boy and I bet you are stoked to have him back. Glad the vet bill did not have an extra '0' on the end though!

Yes, I agree. My neighbour had just one grey for a number of weeks....a rescued ex-racer named Boofy. Boofy was very contented to couch surf all day, until his 'dad' came home. His present girl, Princess, is fine home alone but starts to get a bit restless towards the end of the day. But nowhere near distress. Again, depends on the dog but I've fostered a greyhound who literally slept for about 12 hours a day and didn't even realize I had left to go out for dinner and returned She was quite content to be on her own snoozing for long periods. Lol - sounds like a pug! OHs Dad is considering the shortlist and will make a decision on what breed and whether he wants a dog or not in his own time

PH, we have the best of all....own tibbies, live next door to greyhounds, & our tibbie used to be the small dog tester for the GAP greys. We went to a council Doggie Day recently....piles of dogs there. My tibbies started to get all excited & wagged their tails. Like they do when they see another tibbie. But it wasn't a tibbie....it was a greyhound, wearing the distinctive green collar. I asked the owner....'Is that a GAP adopted greyhound?' He said, 'Yes!' Not entirely all about me....the greyhound was compact size, very like grandma Jenny who lived next door! Mother of a Qld sprint champion. By the way, our neighbour works solid hours as a public servant & his greys are perfectly happy all day. On the dot of 5.20 pm. his lovely grey Princess, comes to the side fence, where she can see people coming from the train station. Her 'dad's' train gets in at 5.30 pm. Oh that is sweet But you say there are 'greys' - will a single grey be okay alone for a 7.6 hour day (oHs dad is also in the PS )
-
No, an average size female greyhound could easily be called medium sized dog. They will fit in a handbag. Wow - that is probably less space than my pugs take up! But then they like to sleep diagonally on the bed leaving me teetering on the edge Thank you for your concern. I have already discussed these issues with him and rest assured that he will not be adopting any animal without being well aware of the commitment it is. I do like the greys - I might try to organise for him to meet one when he is in Adelaide next, but there are a lot of options that I need to run past him as well. He loves pugs but as with the cavies and the min Schn. he cannot have one in the event he decides to continue work for a bit longer. The shar pei may appeal to him as may a few rescue dogs I have been suggested...
-
Thanks for the links - I will have a chat to OHs Dad and see if he likes the sound of the whippet...
-
same for the mini schnauzer, they like to be with their people and are a little to intelligent to leave alone all day. Plus as said before there is the clipping to keep on top of Okay - I am not used to intelligent dogs my two sleep all day!
-
I am not convinced a cavvie would be suitable as he or she would need to be left at home alone a fair chunk of the week if he returns to work... If he does decide to retire a cavvie could be ideal
-
Actually I did consider a rescue shar pei as well - perhaps I will run that past him too, so long as they are good with the pugs we will be fine, that said Louie can be quite in your face so would that rule out a shar pei? No kids to worry about and no cats... A lovely DOLer has given me a heads up about a small rescue dog that might be suitable so I am going to look into her as well. I think I also like the whippets, but I also want a GAP dog and a tibbie!!! Ooops, this is not about me
-
Hee hee - anyone who knows OHs grandmother knows that once she has decided to dislike something, that is it, no mind changing - it is for that reason my next dogs will be a great dane and a saint bernard I don't think a cav would cope well possibly being left alone full time My parents want cavvies next and that seems to be what I am being told...
-
Like I said I like the GAP Greys and am trying to convince him on them Whippets might be an excellent alternative - how similar are they in temperament to the greys? I think the Iggy might be a little too small if that makes sense
-
You don't need to talk me into the GAP dog - it was my first suggestion! I think size is a problem simply because OH's grnadmother (potential owner's mother) is scared of larger dogs and the dog would need to stay with her if an emergency ever arose and he had to go out of town or had to go to a training day in Adelaide etc (he lives regional SA).

Hi All I need some breed suggestions please. I know a fair bit about pugs but when it comes to characteristics of other breeds I am no expert! OH's Dad is after a dog for himself. Long story short he has recently become single again and is after a companion/hobby/something to get him out and about again. He has always liked dogs but has not had one since he was a child. It seems to be a good time and would do him a world of good emotionally. Basically what he wants is: - something not too big. - something that will enjoy a walk a few times a week but does not need one per say (in case he gets sick or is busy for example) - something that does not shed too much, but similar to how a moggie sheds is fine (he loves our pugs but hates the hair) - something that will cope alone if he returns to work (that is still not certain though, he may retire now) - something that is suitable for essentially a first time dog owner - something that will get along with two pugs if it is required to stay with us if he goes away at all About the home: - currently a large secure yard although he may downsize soon. - Single fit 50ish male owner who works 9 - 5 and can come home for lunch if needed - may need to be kenneled/come and stay with us a couple of times a year - Would probably prefer a (house trained) adult between 1 and 3 years That is about all I can think of at the moment. My thoughts so far are: - Miniture Schanuzer - Westie - GAP Greyhound (although OH thinks a grey may be too big for his Dad's liking). Would ideally like to source the dog within a month or so if possible. Would probably prefer a breed (if not the actual dog) that I can arrange to meet so I can ascertain whether I think it would be suitable. That said, we will fly in from interstate from a reccomended breeder. Please help! And thanks in advance!

What a beautiful smile from an obviously loved and very special dog

To lose any dog is awful. I can only imagine how hard it is to lose a pug, especially one who is relatively young still. Hugs to you. RIP Doug

My childhood dog, a border collie probably with something else in him, was two or three days short of 19 when he was given his wings. Before him my mum had an old English sheepdog (pure) who was two weeks off of 21 when she was pts!! Both of these dogs were fed on homebrand, pal etc - must have been all the preservatives I doubt I will get the pugs that far given the shorter lifespan of the bracchy breeds. 12 would be nice

We go to Colonel Light Gardens on Springbank Road. I particularly recommend Dr Bloch and Dr Wearing. Louie and Evie love their vet - mostly because there are lots of treats and they get fawned over!
-
For fresh meat we always get great service from Pets Pantry on Diagonal Road (near Marion Shopping Centre). It looks dodgy but is very affordable and the man who runs it is lovely.

Behaviour Of Staff And Their Dogs At A Pet Store
Pug Hugger replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
I know that store... I don't go there for the same reason! -
Ha ha - I remember them doing that with Louie too! Asked me what he liked to eat I was like - Um he is a pug, everything!? So they thought BBQ chicken would be nice!
