  1. I'm going to assume you're trying to gently/subtly hint I take this dog to the pound? While I thank you for your tact, there is no need. The dog doesn't actually exist, it's a genuine question . I was thinking, generally with boys you can tell (unless they have 2 undescended testes) but I just realised, you can't tell with girls. At first glance, anyway. Although when I re-read my OP, I did sound awfully sus That's interesting re: scars & tattoos. Do all vets tattoo desexed females or is it generally something you'd have to request? generally vets do it as part of the service even my male dogs have the tatoos
  2. I'm just got a letter from my vet to take to the council to say there is a scar consistant with desexing on Mega as she has no tatoo and her microchip does not state if she is desexed or not. We have had her 7 months and she has shown no signs of a season, but at nearly 9 years old it is hard to say. the vet was no inclined to go in for a look see.
  3. I use the natural easiyo home made yoghurt and the dogs love it. and it will last in the fridge for a couple of weeks easy.
  4. When I had my adult boy desexed he become really aggresive towards my other dog of the time. I took him back to the vet and he gave him a hormone shot of female hormone (they use it for cats that fight a lot). It took a couple of days and he was back to his usual happy self and has never shown agression since. It probably saved his life as my rotti boy was starting to get jack of him.
  5. I'd give the vet a call to be on the save side hope the little one is ok
  6. thats a good idea, if anyone knows a trainer in the Woodridge area please let me know so I can pass it on thanks
  7. Long story, but basic are my daughter's girlfriend got a dog trainer around to assist her with teaching her dogs to behave better on lead for walks. He told her that the dog is not punished unless it yelps. she said that they made good progress with the lead issues and pulling. and in the next breath said that the dog wouldn't get on the bed last night as usual to sleep. at least my daughter told her almost word for word what I would have. all they have managed to do is scare the witts out of the poor dog and leave it confused and frightend. daughter told her to change trainers as causeing a dog pain was no way to train it, and recommended that she get a prong collar to assist her with training, until the dogs where trained to walk properly. these are too good natured dog, but they are large and pull when on lead. this guy was recommended by someone at an obedience club . edited to change title, I was venting but recommendations for a good trainer would be helpful
  8. there is one at the pet hypermarket in virginia, i think they wash them for you not sure as I have never used it and there is on at the car wash up the road a bit further I think and it is a self serve also have never used it.
  9. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DOG-SOFT-PET-KENNEL...1QQcmdZViewItem these guys are great and you can go and pick up the item in coorparoo and reasonable prices.
  10. a wire around the top of the fence with poly pipe over it, so he can't grip the top of the fence it rolls on the wire. wire is thread through the pipe.
  11. the crate size sounds about right for a GR, the covers are also available on ebay. toileting on the way home try to avoid places where dog would frequent like parks good luck with your puppy
  12. When I had the pugs I used to dry slices of liver out in the oven. It smells bad but they loved them. you just slice it thin and lay it out on a baking tray in a slow oven until dried to the level you prefer. I have real problems with training treats for caesar as he is not food driven at all.
  13. mine will swollow chicken necks whole even when I tried freezing them. So I got turkey necks from woolies, they are great.
  14. How is Turtle today hope he is feeling better.
  15. I love my boys prong collar as since we have had it he is a changed boy to walk and I keep both shoulders in there sockets. He has never given any indication that it causes him any discomfort and comes running when he hears it. Not something you would expect him to do if it caused any pain or discomfort to him. I hope to gradually change him back to his flat collar but in the mean time we are enjoying a lot more walks. I did a lot of reading and had instruction on how to fit the collar before I got it, and Caesar has a much better time on his walks now and we go further and we can go to all sorts of places because I'm not in fear of being pulled over or drag in a direction I don't want to go. This was becoming a saftey issue for him and me.
  16. Nala was the runt of a large litter and am happy to report that she is a happy and very healthy at 7.5 months with no problems at all. She was the only one in the litter that came straight up to me when I went to see the litter a great temperament and really friendly. good luck with your new fur baby and try not to worry and enjoy your puppy.
  17. At 12 weeks your puppy does not need any formal exercise playing in there own yard is enough and I would be cautious of taking him to area that are frequented by dogs as he is not fully covered by his vaccinations. Puppies need lots of sleep they don't need walk to wear them out. there are lots of threads on this topic where people with more experience have had imput. My 6 month old baby still only gets very short walks. to occupy your pup do some training i.e sit stay drop beg shake etc
  18. Liza I feed my three chicken carcus from the butcher 1 for breakfast each 4 in a bag for a $1 or lamb flaps cut into portions $1.80kg, for dinner they get dry (best you can afford) and some ground chicken mince from the butcher or chicken shop $1.20 a kilo and mine all over 35 kg each get about 200 grams a night with the cup of kibble. I have 2 giant breed bitches and a boxer and I manage to feed them on less then $50 a week with top quality dry foods.
  19. HI Storm I was sadden to hear that Archie has other issues. I asked the vet about Mega's smell and he is inclined to think it is Malassezia and gave me Malaseb to wash her in a couple of times a week to start with and wean it down to once a fortnight. Her eyes definately suffer from dry eye and he has given me a new ointment to try to help with the muck build up and irritation. But apart from that is is really well and he is very happy with how far she has come since he first saw her. I will try to get to a computer tonight to add some new photos of her and the other terrible two. all the best
  20. just one of Mega smiling for a tummy rub
  21. Storm I'm glad Mega loves the car as trying to convince 70kg to climb in would be no fun. I will load new pictures up on the weekend. I know what you mean about them looking funny when they play with the others, Mega loves a romp with Nala and she bounces around like an over inflated beach ball for about a minute and then colapses in a heap and sleeps it off. Will let you know what the vet says about the smell on saturday.
  22. Storm Mega has the same ear issue from old haematomas from shaking her head. She also has a smell and her ears are always dirty, I now clean them out at least 3 times a week and this has helped with the smell, I have a vet appointment on saturday to recheck her eyes as they seem to flare up when ever there is dust about. I will get him to check her teeth out at the same time after reading this thread as hers are just like you describe. Good luck
  23. yep benedine to clen up in the morning and then curash 3 times a day has worked for me
