  1. thank you everyone.... it has been raining non stop where i live and i still havent had a chance to take her to lessons as they have all been cancelled. i am hoping that this sunday will be the first as i have the day off work and hopefully the weather will be fine. i have been trying the triangle of temptation and it seems to be working well. she has a high drive for food which is good. anyway thank you for all your positive experiences. ill let you know how her first day goes. xx
  2. thank you so much everyone for all your replies....i guess i just feel a little out of control with her now. just being able to learn commands and have her learn to obey them will make her and i both feel alot better. im sure she is getting mixed messages from me at the moment. she sits and stay's before she is given her food but thats about the extent of my knowledge in regards to training. anyway i have taken on board all the things you have said and will try to put into practice all the advice. thank you for the compliment. she is adorable and i love her unconditionally. thanks again. charlene
  3. thanks for that...i cant wait to start actually. i dont have that much experience personally so it will be really great for me as well as my little girl.
  4. hi everyone... my american staffordshire terrier is now about months old and is naughtier than ever. she is a little bit out of control actually. today i enquired about obedience training with my local kennel club and am going to take her in this week. i was just curious to know what to expect out of it?? i mean does it work? even on a puppy that is totally disobedient at the moment? this may sound so stupid but i have just never had a puppy before so i dont really know what to expect... any information would be appreciated
  5. BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL ! She is sooooooooooooooo sooooooooooooooooo cute ! AWESUM PICS ! thank you... i have told Jimmy everything you have said which made her smile and lick my face
  6. Name: Jimmy Jack Sex: Female DOB: 15/8/07 Age: 12 weeks Colour: Fawn and White Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier Hobbies: chasing chooks, playing with cows and other dogs, biting socks whenever they walk past, running around like crazy and gardening Loves: being on the bed, eating, cuddles Hates: not being allowed out when we are feeding the calves!
  7. Just curious what do you use for fleas? hey BordaBull i wish i could tell you....we are having such trouble with fleas at the moment!! we live on an organic farm so therefore cant use chemicals. we are in the process of trying a couple of things such as Pennyroyal and Neem oil. there is a product that you can get at the healthfood store for lice, which is based on neem oil, its a spray. so we are going to try that spray with some drops of pennyroyal in it. my partner used to use pennyroyal diluted with water to spray on the carpets and pets bedding an it worked well. sorry i couldnt be more helpful but fleas seem to be OUT OF CONTROL at the moment!! p.s. your puppy is beautiful!!
  8. hey we use apple cider vinegar as a wormer for all our animals including livestock. we mix crushed up garlic and citrus seeds into a big bottle of apple cider vinegar, give it a good shake and add a cap full to their dinner about 2 nights a week. we use this for cows as well as dogs. our farm is organic so we cant use any chemicals. this works fine.
  9. :p great pictures...i love seeing that because it goes against the whole notion of predator and prey. i see it with my bigger dogs all the time. you should check out this short clip of a dog with baby chicks; it is the sweetest thing
  10. p.s...thank you for the comment about my signature. where i live is incredibly beautiful, you are more then welcome to come and stay *wink wink*
  11. yeah she has her own toys and she doesnt do it all the time....i mean she quite often spends time on the verandah just watching them as well as walking around with us whilst they are around and she normally finds more interest in the tag on my work boots rather that the chooks but just sometimes she will chase them. praising her for just being calm around them is a good idea and i will do that for now on. i believe that dogs and poultry can and do live in harmony in many circumstances. i will try to praise her for being cool, calm and collected :p
  12. hey everyone... i was just wondering if anyone out there has had some experience with pups and poultry. basically my situation is this:: i live on an organic permaculture farm where poultry (ducks and chooks) are an important part of our system. both ducks and chooks free range during the day without much in the way of restriction. our two older dogs dont really bat an eyelid at any of them and quite happily live side by side but our new little 12 weeks old american staffordshire terrier is quite different. obviously being a puppy she is excited by everything that moves (and doesnt for that matter ) i just wonder what steps i should be taking to make sure that her fascination in the poultry doesnt turn into something more sinister when she grows?? a dog that kills poultry is a major problem as its almost impossible to stop once it starts. so i would like to know if allowing her to familiarize herself with them now is a good idea and should i try to enforce the notion of NO when she chases them now or is that just a puppy thing that she will grow out of?? cheers for your thoughts in advance :p
  13. that story just gets funnier the more i think about it...hilarious!!!
  14. cheers everyone....i didnt think to check in my dogs file (where all the puppy pack biz is) and of course there is a vaccination certificate in there which tells me when she needs her next shot (which is about now) i will book her in early next week. thanks for all your responses.
  15. hey everyone... i was just wondering if anyone can give me a rough idea of when a puppy needs to be vaccinated. my puppy is nearly 12 weeks old now and when i got her at 10 weeks her vaccinations were up to date....i just wonder when she might be due for her next. thank you charlene
