  1. Good dog, what a worry this idiot has set himself up as a consultant He has no idea of the background / origins of the breeds he is misrepresenting. fifi
  2. Lovely ! and congrats on Shae's herding titles too :D great to see her coat gleaming and her mind & body fit & active. fifi
  3. happy tears :D Enjoy your holiday KHM, you all deserve it, and Earl will be spoilt rotten. The kids have waited so long for this, go..enjoy... :D fifi xxx
  4. :( Oh. I sincerely hope Corvus does not reflect his views nor support his agenda in the findings. fifi
  5. I didn't see your survey either Corvus. But I'm also very wary of filling in any breed / temperament surveys as I know so much data ended up in mcgreevey's hands to be mis-used. Not that I want to tar you with the same brush, but you posted your OP question and seemed to have already closed the books so to speak on any further data or ammendments than your studies already contained. fifi edited to add; PF..love it..where's a 'like' button !!
  6. Very hopeful news KHM, everything crossed that its a steady improvement from here fifi
  7. Huge topic Fifi. I believe the dogs are selected for the traits that allow them to thrive in a kennel environment. Those that don't are culled. But behaviorists have argued that I am wrong and it is only the socialisation (institutionalisation) of race reared greys that makes them different from other breeds in the way they engage with their environment. Poor Corvus, I can hear the sound of an exploding brain !! yes, each factor brings in wider issues. The selection for tamenes / compatibility done in the Russian fox breeding springs to mind. fifi edited to add word
  8. The OP says they weren't able to get in touch with the bitch's breeder. Sounds v.messy and frustrating. oh ok, thank you for that, that will teach me to be in several different DOL threads, patting cat on my lap, watching dogs play, talking to someone on FB and answering an email at the sime time !! fifi
  9. Won't even go into what I think of the owner of the bitch But I'd be very wary of offers from potential puppy farmers or just the unscrupulous who will 'relieve' the owners of the pups & bitch. what about the breeder of the bitch due to whelp ? can they assist ? fifi
  10. I'm not disrespecting Corvus' research, I'm interesting in the parameters used in terms of breeds, age, background. Those variables will give you a skewed result if you are naming it 'Sighthounds' but only using a few of the breeds. sighthound breeds have developed in different countries for different purposes, although prey drive is a common denominator, the way they were housed for instance will have had an impact on social development. EG; pack housing vs hearth type hound rearing, where generations are chosen for their compatibility with those surrounds. fifi
  11. Then I guess you'd have to look at the development of the sighthound breeds for their individual purposes. fifi
  12. Another excellent post Aloysha Corvus, I guess if the question had been worded "Do sighthound owners find their breeds have a tendency to timidity" It would not have felt like you had reached a forgone conclusion based on a generalition. fifi
  13. As well as breed and background, has AGE been taken into consideration ? Many of the larger breed sighthounds go through two very distinct development / caution periods, around 7-9 months and 13-18 months. Often I've shown under a sighthound specialist with a young and very touchy bitch and the judge has laughed, rolled their eye's in commiseration and said...oh yes...adolescent sighthounds !!! fifi
  14. That is better news, he's come this far - candle lit for a full recovery Hugs to you and the family KHM, its a bloody tough road. fifi

  21. Just heartbreaking and so scary when we know this could happen to any breeder. Perhaps if you could get the vets to put in writing what they have told you - to cover yourself against any possible action by the pup's owner. One never know's when a person will get a bee in their bonnet & decide to become litigious. fifi
