  1. OMG, so sorry to hear that fifi, what a shocker that must have been for you. It's all good now, wouldn't have met Dannyhobbit if I was still with the ex !!! fifi
  2. Moselle, probably better that he's upfront with his choices, my ex-husband was oh so proud of the dogs and oh so happy to have them around... Then he left with his little 'take away' from work, with one of the parting comments that he couldn't stand " ALL THOSE BLOODY DOGS" !!!! honesty is the best policy, and BOTH of you have to be happy in your own home :-) fifi
  3. ;) OMG that's so funny !! I guess if they were extra staffies of the same colour they'd just blend !!! We have a deal, he doesn't care how many dogs I have or how much of our food budget goes on the dogs, as long as he can have his running account at the computer shop to buy bits for his toys !!! fifi
  4. Actually, my dogs interviewed my OH for his dog suitability !!!! he's a messy bugger and I'm a reasonably tidy person, so we have a few issues there ! At the moment its foster kitten city in our house and we are BOTH over it !!! As long as OH has his little nest on the lounge with his computers, he would'nt notice if the dogs and cats were stacked vertically ten deep in the house !! took me a couple of husbands to find this one though ! fifi
  5. Thanks for that RSG, I was trying to find that link, great post :-) fifi
  6. It depends on the size, location and type of hernia, and if tissue is coming through the ligament ie: Ingual or umbilical. as to how soon it needs doing. fifi
  7. How long have you got ??!!!! Had my knees knocked inside out by puppy wolfhounds doing zoomies, broken up a bitch fight and some pretty impresive punctures, pulled over by excited young hounds onlead, leaned on, stood on, sat on, had my lip split by a wolfhound turning his head towards me suddenly, had a hound jump at a steel gate with flew into my face/head, and of course for those that know me, the famous fall in a wolfhound dug hole in the dark with my leg some where up my back !!! But compared to friends with horses & cattle, I get off lightly !!!! fifi
  8. Tapferhund, How do you know the OP didn't fully research their breed ? they seem to have had a very happy family pet that suited them until this little dog came along. You are making some very harsh judgements and assumptions here. fifi
  9. That is cruel and harsh, I think the OP has made a very difficult decision based on both dogs staying safe as well as that of their own family. fifi
  10. This prog test is for date to mate ? depends on what day she is how critical having the results will be. As you can't guarantee how the bloods were stored yesterday, I'd be doing fresh collection today and ensuring it's sent off today. fifi
  11. Oztrail compact here too. Use the heavy duty steel pegs from the camping store and guy rope it securely. It's never moved in decent wind & rain, and I lower it if its pretty windy and of course take it down in a gale. fifi
  12. That is perhaps the most common but scariest responses. When they come to restrict something that impacts on you, don't expect anyone to be left to stand with you. Thankyou for proving my point. In other threads that call for restrictions of numbers, number of litters, age of bitches, how long a bitch has off from the show ring when in whelp etc, others have said that it won't impact on them because they do it such and such a way, therefore they don't have an issue with it. I just chucked the response in this thread, to see how others would react, when it's something that touches a bit closer to home... food for thought whew ! I was hoping you were playing devils advocate, as I was having trouble wording a very :dancingelephant: response to you !! people tend not to run until their own asses are on fire. fifi
  13. I think with the ageing and passing away of many breed doyens, and what I see as the emergence of the ribbon chasing generic showdog types, across many, many breeds, yes - breed loyalty, long term knowledge of one's breed is fading with some. Recently at our kennel club show, we did a parade of breeds, and I was horrified when we approached some breeder/exhibitors for a short bio on their breed - and they had NO IDEA of the breeds origins or history. I was truly shocked and saddened. Its seems to be quite common now to 'get out of' such & such a breed, having a breed for five minutes & then 'placing' them all, to move onto the next. :-( but every now and again you meet someone who is passionate about their breed's history & future :-))) fifi edited to add more musings !
  14. Skyehaven, if you make sure she's desexed and advertised as such, then hopefully you'll only get genuine pet enquires. fifi
  15. I remember a piece of advice I got when I had my first wolfhound, Don't ask other breeders or exhibitors what they think, because the nice one's will say stuff like 'nice temperament' ect. The direct one's will tell you what you probably don't really want to hear, and the bitches will simply tear the dog to pieces with their critique. (either to you or behind your back !) fifi
  16. wow, ruger has deleted every one of their posts. and not just this thread. I hope all is well ? fifi
  17. Happy to have many DOL friends 'live' here.... fifi
  18. what does this stand for? ACP /ACE Acetolpromazine = a sedative tablet. often used for travel sickness. have to be very careful with it though, can cause respiratory depression. Lorraine, is it ONLY at night he is displaying these behaviours ? fifi
  19. Thank dog a bit of common sense has finally prevailed. Steve, Please let us know if further funds are needed for Judy's legals. This could have been any of us for as many different reasons as there are dog breeders. fifi
  20. thank you for the update. I hope its benign and John recover's well. fifi
  21. Showleads for the showring only with us. We use a heavy duty horse lead and thick chain or leather collar for walks. fifi
  22. I have only had positive stuff so far, have seen the odd 'off' comments, but only a few. I think the personalities that are attracted to the serious character assassination IRL, will gravitate towards each other and I imagine venemous messaging would be a fixture. Like cyber bullying by phone in schools, there will always be a pool of people who will use FB (& other portals) as an outlet for their devious little minds. Private yahoo groups have been used in that manner for years, both with & without moderation. I limit my 'friends' on FB to those who are a positive part of my life, weather it be in dogs or other facets. Not just to limit my exposure to bullying ect. But the trivia information overload ! fifi
  23. :D Redangel, that was a beautiful tribute, brought tears to my eyes. hugs to your family, Mimi was blessed with such a long and happy life. when I lost my little old Tashi at nearly 20, I couldn't remember a time when she wasn't there, I imagine your family will be feeling very much the same. hugs to you all. fifi
  24. I was going to ask about PSS, didn't want to sound like the bird ill omen all the time. I hope its just a minor setback and not that. fifi
  25. You have the patience of a saint Lorraine, I think by this point I would have picked up a squillion valium tablest, with one for the dog and one for the hoooman at bedtime !!! Have you tried covering his crate ? having a radio on ? Sorry, I've only skimmed your other posts about your boy due to time contraints. fifi
