Three Years Ago Now Kuga, A Very Special Old Man
fifi replied to hortfurball's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Oh HFB, what a beautiful old man he was, I'd never seen pictures of him as a youngster - he was stunning. We know all too well that huge hole he will leave in your life, 16 years is a long time, but not long enough for us. Huge hugs from our clan. fifi, danny & hounds xxx -
So you would only keep disabled humans alive because they or their carers get welfare? It's not about welfare, it's about quality of life. PF said that they are offended at being judged for doing something other than keep a dog that is not suitable for rehoming. So you can't rehome it, you are not keeping it, what is the only alternative? How dare someone suggest you would do exactly what you said you would do. PF, I bet you didn't even realise you said that, did you? You and Fifi both said you wouldn't keep disabled dogs, Fifi because she/he can't get welfare for them, PF because they can't be rehomed. I am offended at your holier than thou attitude, when you are the ones who want to euthanize the dogs because you don't want to put the effort in to keep them, and then get offended when someone calls you out. You have got to be joking !!! I didn't say WELFARE, I said SUPPORT !! How do you know I havn't owned a disabled dog or cat or bird ? I would euthenase the puppies IN THIS THREAD because they would not be able to survive, (read all the reasons why in this thread) not because I don't want to put the effort in. By the way Diva, fantastic post :-) off to pour myself a Bailey's I think !
-
probably right there, this thread has me and :p so perhaps I'm heading for self euthenasia fifi
-
Firstly, I would have euthenased the puppies in this thread at birth as I've already mentioned. secondly, this is not a debate about human vs animal euthenasia - its already been mentioned that there is support for disabled humans. fifi

Agree kitkat, some owners treat their dogs like a bait on a stick. 'lets see if the BIG dog will retaliate..' and if it did, they would scream bloody murder. I've had a swf hanging off a wolfhound's face like a tick, owner screeeeching it was being eaten, poor wolfhound desperately trying to get it off his face !! off lead, aggressive little dog, just lucky it picked my gentle boy. I often wonder if there are people who wander around trying to find ways to make an easy buck by litigation using their poor dog as the 'innocent victim'........ fifi

What a stunning pup ! was going to say Rebus too ! Enjoy him :-)) fifi

Big Hugs. One of the reasons I am SO thankful to live on an acreage, I never want to do the public park, dog park crap ever again. I take mine to town & markets as youngsters to socialise them. but I never go near the suburbs or parks - to many DHeads who have no idea. sorry to read other's have made is awful for you to enjoy your walk Megan. fifi

I've yet to see you make an informed or less than facetious response in any thread I have seen your posts, so I'll just ignore your taunt as you seem unable to have a reasonable debate or conversation in regards to breeders. fifi

Congratulations Nancy & Klaus and to all the winners & nominees fifi

Its definately worth thinking about interstate. My mentor and breeder of my two boys lives in SA, and I'm in NSW. After a lot of email and phone conversations over a long time, there was finally a pup for me. I flew over and stayed with them for the weekend and left with my boy. It was actually the around the same price for me to go and bring him back on my flight, as to having one sent over. (unsure if that is still the case, but have done it since as well) but it was always the understanding that I would go there to pick up my pup, and spend time with the breeders. It was a wonderful opportunity to gain valuable knowledge by being there, observing their dog of different ages at home and sitting with the litter & seeing their personalities. A good breeder will want to build a relationship with you over time, and I can highly recommend phoning too, much is lost with the written word. Good luck in your search, maybe ask DOL'ers in the Aus Cattle dog thread who they would recommend out of your state if your in state search has been fruitless. fifi edited to add stuff

Have you thought about bringing in a well recommended behaviourist ? to help train you both and give your confidence back ? There are some wonderful trainers here who could advise you. fifi

:D I'm sorry, I find that statement offensive, Maybe those 'many breeders' might have put her down from an ethical, humane point of view, based on her expected quality of life, NOT because she wasn't potential ribbon winning or pumping out puppies as their motive. :D fifi edited for spelling and to bold the text because I'm peed off. Is that any more or any less offensive than implying or outrightly stating that a reputable rescuer wouldnt re-home such a dog I wonder? Pardon ? I'm not sure what you mean there ?

More Questions About My Foster Boy - Huey!
fifi replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Your vet should be able to supply you with an effective parvocide. If the crate is metal it can be treated, but bag and throw the bedding. Hope the little guy is okay. fifi -
think this one has been around for quite a while. fifi

More Questions About My Foster Boy - Huey!
fifi replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
Keep him crated and seperate from Poppy, at this point being off colour could be anything from kennel cough to incubating Parvo. Obviously she has had contact with him, but you don't know what he may have picked up and being crated you can monitor him carefully until he sees the vet in the morning. He should have been quarrantined, vaccinated and desexed before coming to you if it was done through a rescue group and not a life or death pound pickup. fifi -
Yes puppy sniffer, but I bet you didn't need to carry those animals to be toileted, or manually evacuate their bowels / bladders, or watch that they didn't aspirate their food or water because they were utterly helpless. That's the point I have been trying to make, there are inuries and disabilities that don't prevent quality of life, yes, they make for high maintenance or special adapting - but not total dependancy for their every drink, meal or real movement. Heck, I've had my lion's share of high needs rescues and wildlife. I know a woman who was very proactive with her parylised dog, even though we gently suggested it was past time to give the dog its wings. Well the poor thing wriggled on its tummy out of its shady spot whent he woman went shopping, and died a dreadful death of heat stroke because it couldn't move the ten feet of so back to its shady spot with water :-( Animals like these in this thread and the other in general will envitabley succumb to medical complications, injuries or human error. fifi

As always Souff, a beautifully worded and realistic post :-) fifi
-
Sadly the people who cannot bear the idea of animals like this being pts, are usually not there to see their daily struggle. Life at all costs only makes the non suffering part of the equation feel better. fifi
-
Yes, what Redangel said How many identical but healthy pups die in pounds every week ? The saviour mentality is doing this poor pup no favours. As Stormy said, there will be health costs, and looking at his poor rear and limbs, it will be sooner rather than later. urinary catheters and expressed bladders do not last forever, scar tissue forms, or urninary crystals, and surgery to flush and keep open his urethra and meds for the inevitable infections will be a future. Then there is the pressue sores and injury to the useless limbs It is so very sad, but this pup should have been given his wings, there are disabilities in dogs that don't prevent them having quality of life, but this is purely for the self worth of the 'rescuer' and I mean that in the counselling sense of the word - it is a known trait that gives the person their validation. fifi
-
I just assumed it was the list of breeds targetted in the BBC doco that went after purebreds. fifi

Well said Souff & Jaxx. poor wee mites are simply revenue raisers to get the curious and misplaced bleeding hearts to fork out $$$$$. fifi
