Managing elderly dogs overnight - advice please!
gillybob replied to westiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Gilly forgets he is eating his tucker half way through. So I chase him with it to his disgust. He will eat anything, he does lose his appetite sometimes but mostly he eats everything he can. -
I just hate that sound in the middle of the night a dog retching. Scares me heaps.

Id ad a Basset Fauve De Bretagne they love their families are great with children, can take as much or as little exercise as you offer, learn quickly and are just great all round family dogs. They are hounds so as long as you have good fences and you would need them in the bush with what ever dog you get, they would be great. I have two and they are my best friends.

My Fauve Etta reaches really horrible high notes sometimes. Today it was 5am waaaaay to early for that kind of stuff.

breed standards . 'deformed' Brachy breeds
gillybob replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
What it also needs is for buyers to say no I want a dog that can do all the things any dog is able to do. I look at the German Shepard and ask myself what are they doing with that beautiful breed. There is also a problem there as well, with their sloping backs they don't look able to d what they were originally to do. I worked with a working shepard as a herder of cattle, he was amazing. -
I waited 4 years for my Fauve! You need to read up about Golden's, maybe go to a show or the specialty Golden show in your state. Meet people who breed, intro yourself and talk to them about their dogs. As its been said above because there arnt many bred you will have to wait.

What Not To Do - dogs off-leash , ABC news story
gillybob replied to persephone's topic in General Dog Discussion
Up here all childrens play areas are fenced really well so dogs and weirdo's cant get in. They have to up here because there are so many roaming dogs, so bad that I have had to stop walking my two. Every where we went there was a dog out on the road. -
Reducing plastic in relation to dogs?
gillybob replied to Two Best Dogs!'s topic in General Dog Discussion
My frames from the butcher come in a plastic bag I always reuse it after washing it and putting it in the sun to dry. I reuse them heaps of times in the freezer for animal food. -
I have extremes of temps up here down way below freezing and up in the thirties, I have kikuyu its tough and free. I go over it every two years or so and air rate it and dig out old runners and make space for new ones. It perks up the lawn a lot. I don't feed it or water it at all it gets water when it rains. Gilly is allergic to it I think but I have a 1/4 acre so cant afford returfing it.

I wonder what they would say about Basset Fauve De Bretagne they are an old breed.
-
Large company 1 million or more. What idiot would give a million to them?
-
Why do you need to know? Usually people start showing when their dogs are young. If the breeder shows, but didn't give you papers, or show your dog, the dog may not be suitable to show. I would ask the breeder, they would have more knowledge about your dog than we would.

Owning dogs that attack like that puts every child in the area in danger, I don't blame the dog I blame the owner for not controlling obviously dangerous dogs. Its a disgusting thing to happen,. This the reason I don't walk my dogs here in town, because there are dogs roaming everywhere and most are pigging type dogs large and aggressive.

Anyone had a dog have a stroke?
gillybob replied to WoofnHoof's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My 19 yr old Bob had a stroke, he couldn't walk or stand, he didn't know were he was and was very confused, couldn't see, he had some sight before but that went as well. It was a hard day for me that day. I hope its just the affects of the op, they can knock around the oldies a lot. I hope your girl improves. -

Looking to get a Blue Heeler, need advise please
gillybob replied to Stephen_Bundaberg's topic in General Dog Discussion
At the time I was living 30ks from town, she knew my friends and she knew they wernt friendly. I was living alone at the time as well. She did her job which was to protect me. But they can get over protective so you need to be consistant with training. -

gillybob replied to Stephen_Bundaberg's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had visitors at my place once, very unwanted ones, they walked up a very steep hill for 2 ks to get to my shed. Ringer did the smiley face when they came up and chased them back down that hill on the run. She stopped at the gate. -

My Ringer caught one once, she got ill but survived. My fault I hadn't trained for them. But if you train to leave and keep inside at night you should be ok. You need to do that anyway to get pup out of situations that will hurt. They are smart dogs one bad experience cured my dog, not that I wanted that to happen, it was dangerous. She was never interested in snakes. Just macadamias and cane toads oh and tractor tyres. -

I had a Bluey for many years he was a working dog and my companion, he was the best dog I ever had. Saved my life one day. They can be over bearing and barky when bored, they need exercise and interesting things to do, like kelpies they are smart. My Ringer had a double coat which helped with ticks, if your on the coast you will have ticks. They are wonderful companions for families if well trained, that doesn't take long because they are smart, but it needs to be done for your and your dogs safety. They are like all dogs, with training and love, they become part of your family and that's what you want in a dog. Have a look on DOL breeders page or go to a show in your area and meet people with healers, that's the best way to see if one will fit into your family. -
Ill be out there again this time ready with wishes and dreams to ask for and things to say thankyou for. I love full moons.

I have had so many in the last 10 years but they were all oldsters and I had tried to give them the best last few years and months they could have. But Anna was different she was only 7 she had Cushings, she was such a beautiful dog in the way she looked and her personality, she was very worried when she couldn't get out the back fast enough, when she wet my bed she was so embarrassed. I thought we had got her settled in her meds but she stopped eating and one day I woke up and looked at her and she wasn't there. She was back for a little while and I rang Fi . As I was leaving the house she looked at me again and was Anna again then she was gone again. It broke my heart to see her like that. So we went to the vet she didn't struggle or try to get away, she knew it was time, she went to sleep in my lap and I was just heart broken. She was my first ever girl and she came to me to retire she had about two years it wasn't fair. You will know when it is time.

Maybe the reason why Dingos and their cousins around the world are so successful is they hunt by scent, sight and sound. Look at those lovely ears.

The multi coloured tongue is cool as well. You see a lot of dogs that are similar everywhere in asia. But they are lovely.
