  1. I get my meat delivered and when the poor kid gives me the meat all is well, then when he starts leaveing Molly wants to eat him. My other two will wag, but thats about all they will do. Gilly will bark if its someone we dont know OR the meat kid.
  2. Can see why she kept him on the payroll. Love a man in a skirt. The dogs are ok as well. Id say that foxy x is a JRT.
  3. I am single and have three dogs and two rats. The dogs are all over ten, 12,14 and 16. Wonderful dogs I love them to bits. Actually couldnt live without them I know I have room for one more oldie and a puppy. That might happen this year I hope. The only difference I find in adding from two to three is, it seems to quadrupal the poo. I noticed that when I got Blake( at the bridge). But he was a larger BC, Molly the BC, my new old dog, doesnt seem to make a difference. Not much difference in food, although she would love to double her food intake!! Only thing that is difficult with old dogs is they leave you so much sooner. Not much change in vet visits. Blake was ill only in the last few months of his life, he was 16.
  4. Ham and pork for dogs is a nono in this house. I learnt the hard way, after haveing a house full of farting dogs. My lot get the same food nomatter what day it is. I always cook extra vedges when I have a roast, they love their roast vedg and gravy ( I make my own gravy). I agree those gravy mixes have far too much salt.
  5. They are pretty tough little birds, I love them. My dad had a family every year in his big trees in the back yard. That was 5 minutes from Crown street in Wollongong. I had a pair who raised at least two babies every year in my barn. They came out at the same time every night, you could set you clock by them.
  6. Roundup or glucosphate is NOT safe at all. It is slowly being removed of the safe lists in other countries. It kills fish and frogs when it gets into the water systems. Pull weeds up or use boiling water or steam on them. Or you can mulch over them. Anything but Roundup. Australia is often last when it comes to dangerous chemicals. People will tell you it is safe and sell it too you, but remember big chemical companies have a lot of pull.
  7. I had a brother who was a blue tongue freak. Our house was surrounded by them, all liveing in the garden. He would 'save' them from other peoples yards. I just dont understand how anyone could mistake a bluey for a snake. I think one of the things we should be doing is educateing our kids on what snakes are dangerous and how to behave around them. My grandsons have an uncle who works with snakes as a career, they know and handle snakes often.
  8. That sounds like a Green Tree Snake, they have beautiful blue/green scales that flash when they are angry. Which is a lot of the time. They are non-poisness and have back-faceing teeth. Look them up they are really lovely looking snake.
  9. Poor old bugger how could anyone do that. I found my Lab after he was dumped on the Bruce highway near Cooroy.
  10. Wow arnt they beautiful, I love their scaleing the dark outline to the beautiful copper colour. All the frogs have come out up here, so it should also be snake seasons here now.
  11. Its been such a long time since I joined, I cant remember. But two of my dogs are called Gilly and Bob, I also have a Molly now. Maybe I should change it to The Mad Rat Lady.
  12. I have tell you all about the women two doors up. I couldnt work out why she had her radio on so loud all the time. Its because she thinks it keeps the snakes away. We all back onto paddocks so we do get a RBB now and then, but haveing the races scream out at you all the weekend is a bit much. Nearly every house here in town has a woodpile, due to the need for heat even in summer, so there are plenty of hideing places.
  13. I have met lots of Tiger snakes on my walks up here. Its interesting about them climbing, I have been told by many people they dont climb, but, I used to see one climb up my choko on the fence, to get to my pond on the other side. You can get your animals used to snakes, my dog Bob shared our yard with three RBB a Brown now and then and Tigers all the time. He never got bitten. But I have seen him jump straight up in the air!! I used to run into Tigers everyday, I always had the impression they were pretty layed back, not interested in useing venom on me or my dog. Is it true that most snake bites are 'dry' or no venom used Snakecatcher. I was bitten one early evening when I was getting lettuce in my garden, I didnt see the snake, just felt something hit my thumb.I notice the holes after my shower when I was in bed. Woke up the next day with funny eyesight, feeling a bit strange, that lasted a day or so then I was ok.I did go to the hospital. They were very large holes wide apart. I still have the scars on my thumb.
  14. I few weeks ago I had to give my old fella Blake his wings. Because I had taken him to the vet the day before and it had stressed him out so much. I got the vet to come to my place. He had a gentle leaveing thanks to the vet, her assistant and FiFi. The vet was wonderful, they were thoughtful and careing, I couldnt have asked for a better send off for him. I miss him everyday.
  15. I love your vids Snackcather. Its good to see snakes that are different than the ones up here. Especially the tigers.
  16. Wonderful pack pics. I saw those transfers in Whanes World the other day.
  17. Hey thats not fair Pav, our PURE BRED Black Malteezer was pure bred!!!!!!! All that work in the Port Kembla lab was worthwhile, Im sure the owners of the few dogs that we made are very happy. I have had news of a new litter up your way Pav.
  18. I had a horse shy at a taipan once, it threw me and I hit the ground head first. I was knocked out, I wasnt alone, I had my Blue Healer and a friend with me. The healer sat next to me and on me, she barked and annoyed me and kept me concious, while my friend went the few ks to get the ute. The same dog also kept a drunk who had taken the wrong driveway and ended up at my place. He was very angry and tried to force his way into my home. Ringer sat at the door showing him her teeth, then when he finally acceptred he wasnt going to get in. My neighbour and my dog chased him down the driveway. Neighbour had a shotgun, Ringer had her teeth. She saved me from a lot of problems when she kept me awake.
  19. Love the nose. She also colour co-ordinates with the cat, what more could you ask for.
  20. Dogs also read signs we dont realise we are sending. My old bloke Bob, who is also dementing starts at 4.30 with his nearly tea time whine. I suppose they are similar to people with dementia, whos lives revolve around food.
  21. Thanks Horrie and Pers. I have never felt as tired as I did last night. I keep on seeing him at the edge of my eyesight. So there may still be some Blakey energy here. Bob is very confused and is also missing him.
  22. Blakes back legs stopped working 3 days ago, I took him to the vet on thursday, but they couldnt help him, except for pain relief. We had a terrible night on thursday, so I made the decision I didnt want to make. Blake got his wings at 10am yesterday morning, he went quietly with his head in FiFis lap. Ann spent some time saying good by in the morning, I sat with him most of thursday night talking to him. I will miss him a lot. I have known him for 10 years, but he only came to me when I moved into my home. He was getting into trouble at Anns. He was a calm loveing dog, loved his morning amble down the yard. Loved his food and a good bone. He had a few homes before he came up here to Ann from BC Rescue. He spent time with Kali as she grew up and then with Kali, Lockie and Gabbie and Mals two dogs at Skeleton Creek. The hardship he had as a young dog could be seen in his arthritis. But it didnt dint his wonderful temprement, although he had been badly treated he still loved people. His whole body would wag when he saw Ann, or when I came home, or when FiFi visited. He was old but he could still do a slow zoom. He loved laying in the sun watching the horse next door. All in all no matter what had happened to him, he still loved life and his family. I will miss his gentleness, Molly will miss him as will Gilly and Bob. Our home doesnt seem the same. His last few days wernt nice and the only kindness I could do was to give him his wings. He is up there with Timmy the cat who he loved and all my ratties. Blakey I will miss your love, it often brought me back to sanity.
  23. I had a Lab who did the same. I found him one day in the dam with a dead bird in his mouth. The look on his face said: he knew it had something to do with water and birds, but didnt know what. It was so funny.
  24. I used Proban on my working dogs in Queensland, but still like you lost my boy. I used to check them twice a day, but he had one I missed at the end of his tail. But I have also had a vet bring back a dog, even when his backlegs had nearly gone. So there is hope. Bandicoots are major vectors for paralysis ticks. You also need to check yourself, if the dogs are getting them you might as well. I took the dogs for a swim everyday, it made the ticks easier to see when they were wet. I had a Blue Healer and a Lab, the healer hardly ever got ticks, but the lab always did. They went everywhere together, so I think in was the double coat the healer had.
  25. He still is a great dog!!!! He always knew were a RBB was, they do smell a bit dont they. I shared a home yard with Bob and at least three RBB for many years. Only ever had one bad day and that was with a travelling very large Brown Snake. The RBBs loved my compost heap. I really love snakes and recon they have an important place in the way of things. Its really not worth their venom to bite something they cant eat.
