What Is The Worst Thing About Your Chosen Breed?
gillybob replied to Steph M's topic in General Dog Discussion
Bassett Fauve. I have two Fauves and they love to sing the song of their people. Wawoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wineeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Then we come to the Fauve nose, Cedro's is like Rudolf's brown and hot. He can run for miles singing and sniffing, but that is what they were bred to do so its silly to complain about it. When the 7foot fences go up he wont get out again! Even with all of this they a soft lovely family loving dogs, Cedro was blissed out yesterday when we cam around a corner and there were a dozen or so school children, he hadn't met kids up here, so I panicked, but he was wonderful wagging and sniffing every child, a good ambassador for his breed. I forgot to mention that they can never be off lead and they shed all year every day and every minute. They will only return to you if they want to or if you have something they want otherwise the nose runs the body. -
Terrible Things Your Dog Is Forced To Endure
gillybob replied to Little Gifts's topic in General Dog Discussion
Cedro isn't allowed to go out in the rain, he loves the rain especially when it comes with wind. He likes to sit out there with his ears blowing in the wind like a super model. Gilly goes under the doona around May, dog forbid if another dog doesn't recognise his bump under the doona. Its like a crazy toothy clawry thing is erupting from under there, terrifies poor Cedro, when he climbs on the bed he tip toes along the edge, giving Gilly lots of room! Anna just goes urumph and goes back to sleep. All three take it in turns to look at me around 10 to 5, then on woods until 5, after 5 which IS feed time, the looks get worse and worse. To downright sorrowfull. Sometimes the butcher is late and their food doesn't get here until 6 and they are reaching a starvation point. They are all on one lounge putting up with each other because is cosy near the fire at the moment. But I know if I let them out, Cedro and Anna would dissapear following a scent. Gilly isn't silly he stays were its warm. -
Treats That Are Good But Not T O O Good
gillybob replied to kelpiecuddles's topic in General Dog Discussion
My Fauve is still working for Duck Tenders, he has been doing it for months, I recon that's pretty dam good for a hound. But I have to say, we get near a show ring all bets are off and the nose goes down and he wants whatever everyone else has. edited to say he is 6 months so VERY changeable. -
You wernt the biggest rat in the gang, but, you had lovely manners and were very handsome. I thought it would be your Uncle Al to go but you surprised me and decided to go to the bridge in my arms this afternoon. Such a space in my heart from you not being there. By my lovely little boy, I will miss your love of the 'p' things prawns, porridge and watermelon.

Oh dog I wish Cedro would stop being an arse and get stacking. He walks really nicely but just wont stand, no treat or toys will entice him. Im just hoping its just a puppy stage. He is 4 1/2 so only a baby really but he will have to learn soon!
-
Well Cedro and I started our show careers today, we were both nervous me more than him. He was a bit naughty and I didn't watch the judge, but we still got nice comments from the judge. We got a blue ribbon in Baby Puppy Breed ( there was only us) representing Fauves. The announcer didn't know how to pronounce the name! All up we had a good day, Cedro behaved beautifully for a boy in his first show AND on his first day out in public. I am very proud of the little bloke.

Lol, you have no chance he is a little beauty, he is in his first show in two weeks. His brother is doing really well, so Im hopeful for him.

I used to do it both hands and work from the nose back just feeling you will get the hang of it after a while. That's why I did it when they were dry in the mornings for the tiny ones and wet at night for the larger ones. I sat on the ground with them between my legs and work from the nose down, then stand them up and do underneath and tails and toes.

Elles, your baby is a sweetie. Im looking forward to Uralla, I'm taking Cedro, Cadeau's brother with me. So Im hoping for nice manners, although I don't like my chances. When Cedro plants his bum moving for him is not an option. Its the ears I love in that pic Trish and you are looking very patient.

One of the reasons I live up here in the tablelands is there are no paralysis ticks or leeches either. Im allergic to ticks and terrified of leeches! If you live on the coast of Queensland or NSW you need to check your dogs twice a day EVERYDAY, even if you use preventatives. I used to do it after my dogs had a swim it makes it easier to see them. I lost one dog and nearly another, when I missed ticks at the end of tails. Up here we don't have heartworm or ticks, we get cattle ticks once every ten years but that's it. About 40ks east they have paralysis ticks though. My Gilly had 3 bush ticks on him a few months ago, but someone had adgisted some cattle in the paddocks next door, they proberly came from the coast. I complained to the ranger, because this is a tick free area, he said my dogs proberly got them from the coast! I said nope they don't travel. The cattle were gone the next day so someone listened to me! They get fined if nothing is done about the cattle and the land. Edited to say when there is a lot of rain you will get more ticks. Looking at the future weather problems Id say ticks will be a major problem in the future because of floods and lots more rain on coastal areas.

I didn't know it was bassay, and I am a new owner! What kind of Fauve owner am I if I cant pronounce his name!

I have lost a few oldies in the last couple of years,Im please I took pics. Bob was the saddest and he hated his pic taken he would turn his head. I now have Gilly who is looking older every day, although he is a lot more perky now the pup and Anna are here. He was very sad when I lost Bob and Molly in the same day. We should all cherish our time with the oldies because they give so much of themselves and love so much. Makes me cry.

Anna, Cedro's mum is his fav toy, then comes anything he can steal, including slippers ,pillows, toilet rolls, paper and bones.

I am now a Fauve owner of a mature girl Anna and my baby puppy Cedro. Have to say they are the nicest dogs I have met, gentle, family friendly, happy and happy to learn Cedro has good recall, thanks to Trish and comes to me every time I call. Although there are a lot of good sniffs in my yard, he still comes. Everyday is a joy with these dogs.

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
gillybob replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
I have to say everyone's pups are lovely. My Cedro has been here nearly a week, he came with his mum last Thursday and they seem to have settled in well and I love them both to bits. Cedro is just gorgeous and runs and stacks like a professional thanks to Trish's hard work. I will be showing him next month at Uralla if anyone is going I would be happy for you to meet him. He loves people. He really stays by my side most of the time and we have bonded well even with his mum here. But my home looks like a bomb hit it! You wouldn't think such a little pup could spread things around so much. -
I can finally put my name here, my new Bassett Fauve pup Cedro will be coming home with his mother this week. So not only do I get a pup but I also get a lovely bitch as well. The last few months have been some of the best in my life, I had an amazing holliday and arrived hom on wendesday and now a new puppy. I haven't had a puppy in my life for 15 years so it will be a big learning curve. Especially my house which isn't very puppy friendly. So Cedro and I will both learn from each other.
-
I can now put my name o this list. My new Basset Fauve Cedro will be with me the first week of November. If you don't know what a fauve is check out the breeds list. Wonderful dogs.

My son who has mental health problems lost his dog a few years ago, she died of old age. He has been without a dog ever since and is missing the companionship. He loved to walk and exercise his dog so has no problems with that. He has asked me to have a look around for him. He is in Wollongong and cant travel too far so a rescue in the area would be handy. He was thinking about an older dog, maybe a Lab or something similar. I would suggest a JRT but because he has mental health problems, a calmer dog would be more appropriate. So if anyone knows of or comes upon a suitable dog could you contact me. I am going away for a month on the 26th but will be in Wollongong after the 20th of October so could help organise then. But there is no hurry and I want him to wait for the right dog, I would also like him to meet the dog before a decision is made. You can PM me here if you think a suitable dog becomes available. I will check my PMs while I am away.

I love the multi-coloured ones. I wonder what their fleece is going to be like. Especially for felting if it has those pattenings.

Dogs Who Visit Hospitals And Nursing Homes
gillybob replied to Loving my Oldies's topic in General Dog Discussion
My dads nurseing home had a dog he just used to visit each ward one at a time on his own. Dad loved him. They also had a cat that used to sit with patients who were dieing. -
Thats wonderful. To see them stretched out running like that is amazeing and most of them are old dogs as well. Great stuff.

One Of The Consequences Of Sleeping With Dogs.
gillybob replied to Kirislin's topic in General Dog Discussion
Ive never had a poo or wee but I have had a secret vomit. What I hate are the secretly hidden bones you only find by smell. When Bob and molly were alive Gilly had to 'bury' his bones for safety. In the middle of last summer he buried his bone in my bedroom, after a day or two i couldnt find the smell, then I did and it had wildlife on it! I have slept at a friends place and woke to her BC pup vomitting on my head, she had eaten a baloon! -
I just had a brown snake in my front yard, just a youngster i nearly stept on him when I was going to the letterbox. He looked like a moveing stick!
