I reckon anyone sneaking through my dog door would get a fright because my sibe just lays on the ground watching he doesn't bark or carry on he just watches if you didn't know him it would be pretty scary being faced with such an intense wolfy stare

Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
WoofnHoof replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
Why do they single out the one particular breed? I understand there blood is different, but is there something special about their skeletons... Surely the draining of blood is classified as some type of abuse? I don't know about the blood but for anatomical study purposes what other kind of dog would people gladly surrender over en mass? Same with OTT TB's and STB's becoming dog food. & human food don't forget. One thing that was interesting I spoke to a UQ vet who had done a study about student attitudes towards the use of pound dogs and greyhounds in uni vet labs and she found that attitudes changed throughout the course and some people were quite agressive about what they saw as her study perhaps threatening their supply of dogs (her study asked if they would prefer to use donated cadavers), many people were adamant that greys are useful for the musculoskeletal pracs because of their well defined musculature and lean frames. It is interesting to note that there are many universities throughout the world that use donated cadavers quite successfully in their programs. -

Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
WoofnHoof replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
I work in a related field to corvus and I've been told that there are very few job opportunities in this field in Australia, and that i should look for jobs overseas. It's highly unlikely I will because I would hate to leave my tribe even though I'm sure they wouldn't be that fussed, especially the horses. I think it's a shame that in some fields they wont respect anyone who hasn't "done their time " overseas. We have lots of talented peoplle here I dont know why doing 6 months overseas, disrupting their lives, should make that much difference. edited to fix my awful phone post! -
Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
WoofnHoof replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
Funny you should say this, my sister dumped her two maltese x shih tzu girls at the RSPCA at 4 years of age (both undesexed) and gave her 'reason for surrender' as 'we are moving and can't take the dogs with us' the first bit was true but the second bit was rubbish as they were moving to 5 acres! Real reason was that they were untrained, always matted because she was too lazy to keep up with grooming and were always filthy as they weren't allowed inside. -
Not much... (after about 10 minutes brushing )

Is it possible to have the dogs IDed before they are buried so when Jane comes home she knows who is who and where, I know it may not be possible but it would be nice if they could have seperate graves. -
Have transferred the meagre funds that were in my account hope it helps.

My Swf Howled For The First Time Today :)
WoofnHoof replied to PepitoVFR's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think in many dogs it's an instinct which may lay dormant most of the time and is only triggered by noises of a certain pitch, my chi will howl when the phone rings whereas my sibe howls when my chi barks a lot! -
That's truly disgusting treatment, I've never been treated like that but I have had vets umm and ahh about treatments when my dog was on death's door, I said what's the problem why aren't we doing these things? The response 'oh well it's really expensive' Um hello that's for me to decide since I'm paying the bill!

Cool :D I've joined the group but there isn't any updates there about the recent calls for help so maybe add on there so it shows up on everyone's wall when it's added?

Mine (sibe) is a bit more cautious, he will wait until no one is watching him before he goes and investigates something new, he does it the most when I'm out he takes things off benches he doesn't always destroy things often he just pulls it down for closer investigation. Every now and again my chi will go and get something but it's usually to play with rather than to actually investigate what it is IYKWIM.

Does PACERS have a facebook page? Many people have friends from all over so subcribing to a FB page would help to spread the word over a wider cross-section of people across the country who may not be members of DOL.

I didn't really know what category my car fits in, it's only 4cyl so I don't think it's really a 'big' 4x4, it's not a SUV either. My husky goes in the back seat, my little dog goes in the front seat, when I get a canopy the husky can go in the back if he's been a grot at the park. And of course tows great

IMO there isn't much difference, it is essentially the same thing, animals notice details and patterns therefore if your mind works that way you are going to be more in tune with the natural thought patterns of animals. I think of it as being on a similar wavelength, some people are on a similar wavelength to animals and so they are better able to utilise the basic skills most of us have to learn. Temple Grandin is autistic and autism exists on a spectrum from extreme to pretty much 'normal' so it's realistic to expect that some of those traits that exist in autistic individuals (ie eye for detail etc) also exist in people in the 'normal' range (whatever that is lol). You may find it interesting to know that according to one study people who own dogs are actually less able to recognise facial emotions in people (this is an autistic trait), it was only a small difference but it was signficant. Link to abstract It's not whispering or even listening it's probably more instinctive than that

Pet Dogs To Be Put Down After Killing
WoofnHoof replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
Abigail your use of this language suggests that you may be anthropomorphising these dogs, they are dogs acting on instinct they aren't making a concious decision to murder much loved pets, it's important to recognise the difference because protracted consequences mean nothing to dogs they don't think the same way humans do. -
Can you get him in via the front seat then shut the door and shove him into the back?
