  1. My Mum's grey is the same! She won't even eat her dinner if the clouds look dark (she eats outside cause she always needs to go to the toilet halfway through her meal!).
  2. I agree - it is pretty extreme. I just don't get how he can be a sweetheart to our dogs (he really does adore them), but HATE others for no reason
  3. I totally understand deelee - my OH had never owned a pet in his life until I came along. We now have 2 small fluffies (had them since puppies) which he's great with, but any other dogs he hates (I thought he'd come around after living with my parent's dogs for 18mths, but nup - hated them). I then tested the waters for a cat by fostering kittens (how can you hate a cutie pie kitten right?), but he DESPISED them - would call them vermin. He let me adopt a 13yo Persian, but refused to let it go anywhere near him. Slowly, slowly is the progress with the cat situation - he now will give the cat a bit of a scratch every now and again, and sometimes even picks him up! He's said that if anything happened and we went our seperate ways, he'd never own another pet again....but then he also said that he'd want visitation rights to see the dogs (so i'm glad at least they have got to him!)...
  4. I had a similar thread where I got some great ideas from people for entertaining my furkids: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=202020&hl=
  5. Does the car have good air flow, or is it a bit stuffy? And is there good visability out the windows? Having a good view out the window, and some fresh air can make the world of difference! It could be just a random onceoff though.. (like my dog who decided to puke in the car just as I was taking her and my bird to the vets because she'd broken a claw & the bird had got his head stuck in a rope toy while I was at work, meanwhile a massive spider ran across the windscreen and nearly gave me a heartattack as I was driving along. I almost burst into tears when I arrived & the vet asked how my day was!!).
  6. Dogs are fine being fed cat food (I give it to mine as a treat- they love it). Cats don't do well on dog food though as it causes constipation & doesn't have the right nutrients for them.
  7. If they're not in a rush, perhaps they could go on the waiting list for a failed customs or guidedog? They come well trained, so would be a good option for family with several children Not sure how long the typical wait is though!
  8. I'm so going to Boo when he attends Frankston's Pets Day Out as the celebrity guest.
  9. Yay - thanks for all the ideas. I'm putting them all on a list and will try them all. (can't wait to see the dog's response!)...
  10. That's a good idea - will def give it a go. If the doggies don't like it i'm sure the cat would (in his enclosure) GSD Fan - I don't really have the spare $$ to hire anyone, but I wonder if my G'father might be interested in visting them occasionally if I leave out some food for him :D ...might be worth a try They DO sleep most of the time, so i'm not too worried.... but I like to throw a few suprises in to keep them guessing sometimes!
  11. Pity you're not on my way to work cause Princess Missy would LOVE to add you to her slave collection! Constant tummy rubs are a must ;) (however Dex would drop you at the sight of your dogs - he's a small fluffy that thinks he's a grey! LOL)
  12. In Summer it's a bit easier because I give them frozen blocks with treats inside & freeze food inside Kongs - takes them ages to get through them and when they do they're exhausted! ;) However in Winter it's too cold for frozen treats, and it takes them no time to get the food out of kongs when it's not frozen. I scatter food around the yard in the hope they'll spend all day looking for the bits, but they're getting really good at finding it now so that game doesn't last long either. I had treat balls, but they keep burying them in the garden Unfortunately I can't give them fresh bones because they might fight over them. Plus they're a bit picky with toys, so rotating toys doesn't help much cause they always want the same one (and will only play with it when i'm there). Any other ideas to keep them busy outside while i'm at work? Note - they're very good and don't get upto mischief or anything (plus sleep most of the time so the spies tell me) - I'd just like to keep them busy so they're not bored, plus keep their minds active). *Sorry if this topic has already been done, but I don't visit 'General' often & couldn't find anything in the search*
  13. - so cute. (I shouldn't have looked - Tilly is my kind of dog!!!) My Mum's dog is like that all the time (he's a dali that is a bit spethial!!). I think he's broken @ BC4ME. Poor bubsy...
  14. Poor Jed - how devastating! Such an awful thing to happen to a good person & her dogs RIP little ones Thankgod the dogs are getting released from the RSPCA - were they really 'seized'? I'll be doing a protest at the Million Paws Walk if they were!! I can donate products for auction too...
  15. I have these too - they're great. Come as planks (like wood), and just stick together so you can easily do the flooring yourself. Mine were from Harvey Norman: http://www.harveynormanflooring.com.au/vin...les/allure.html plus the ones I bought are textured (like grains of wood) so aren't slippery.
  16. The vet my friend got a spey quote from quoted around the $500 mark (a few yrs back), and when she asked why so much the vet said that most veterinary practices discount desexing as an incentive for people to get their pets desexed, but at that clinic they just charge the normal sugery rate which is higher. Perhaps that's why it was so expensive?
  17. I use the smaller one for my 10.5kg dog and she's never had an issue. She has a long coat too (usually for longer hair vet said you need a little more). However I should note that I rotate between advocate and sentinel from month to month (cause advocate doesn't cover tapeworm, but sentinel doesn't cover earmites?). So perhaps it's the fact that I use both that makes all the difference
  18. Kennel solutions is def the cheapest i've seen - I even tried to get it thru the Aust distributer and their wholesale prices were the same as KS
  19. :D Nope i'm Aries..but an atypical Aries! I'm very interested in hearing what they say!
  20. That's interesting - my vet said to hold off until it gets bad, because the scarring from sugery causes probs in itself & the procedure would likely lead to early arthritis in the area. We were advised to give joint guard daily, and cartrophen injections every 6 mths (or more frequent if necessary).... It's been 2-3rys of doing this & so far my dog has been great apart from when she does strenuous off-lead running. We know she'll need surgery eventually, but so far so good... (she had one knee that was rated a 3, and one that was 2/3). yes it is interesting. My vet says if we dont do it she will get arthritis and then the op wouldnt be as successful This was my first visit to this vet and I am definitely getting a second opinion, I wouldnt put my dog through surgery if it isnt necessary. He didnt say what rate the knee was either. What age is your age/breed is your girl? I hate it when people say opposite things - spend my life in constant confusion! (I find it hard making decisions at the best of times!) She's now 5yo - she's a small fluffy crossbreed (10kg). Giant body on very short stubby legs!
  21. I'm also a Joint Guard fan - done wonders for my dog, and my parent's dogs I don't partic like the Vets All Natural Joint formula though - my dog hates it (and she's usually not fussy in the slightest )- plus you have to use more powder so it isn't quite as cost effective as you'd think!). My dog also has cartrophen injections as well though..
  22. My mum swears by 4 legs for her dogs. My dogs seem to like it too, but I also wouldn't feed it as a complete meal. FYI - very handy to hide tablets in!
