My Foster Dog Ate My House!
Pawfect replied to HazyWal's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I only lasted 24 hrs fostering a couple of bull breed pups. They trashed the room they were staying in, constantly tipped up their (seriously heavy) water bowl the minute I filled it up, + ate the collars off each other that they came with. When outside they climbed the wire of the dog pen like monkeys & ate the cable ties holding it to the stakes in the ground, kept getting into the pen around my birdcage & terrorising my birds, & were so rough with my dogs that my dogs hid in fear. They also tried to rip my clothes off at any opportunity, & wouldn't let go for anything! I also had a young baby at the time, so didn't cope at all!! After that experience I've chosen my fosters very carefully. Luckily the only damage from others is claw marks in the leather couch, & a couple of soft crates that smell like cat pee no matter how thoroughly I've cleaned them -
I LOVE mine - I use it every day (more than once!). My floors have never been cleaner!! (Have carpet & vinylflooring) I have the more expensive red one, because it self docks onto the charger when it needs to recharge, & if it hasn't finished vacuuming the house it'll remember where it's up to & resume once charged. Brilliant!! (The green one doesn't do that). I got it for $680 from Harvey Norman. I also have the irobot scooba that washes my (vinyl plank) floors. It's not as quiet, & bumps everything, but leaves my floors soooooo shiny! ETA - i thoroughly compared the roomba & LG roboking, & chose the roboking. It has more sensors so doesn't bump everything like the room a does, is easier to empty, & is much quieter (I have it on whilst the baby is asleep & it's fine!!)

Does Anyone Know Of A Bird Rescue In Victoria?
Pawfect replied to perrin's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
Georgina has helped me before when I was trying to rehome someone's birds - she was great. http://www.petrescue.com.au/member/1077 -
Petshops don't sell ADULT dogs, and not many people in the classifieds would sell adult dogs for that amount. I'd assume buying a puppy from the pound at that price wouldn't be so much of an issue, but for an adult dog that clearly didn't have the best owner then it may be a bit of a gamble with your money....

Head Of The Piaa Caught In The Act.
Pawfect replied to pandypam's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I agree that the photo is in poor taste. Sure, the cat was a feral pest that needed to be 'caught', but it it was also a living creature that didn't ask to be born & therefore its death isn't a laughing matter (or a kodak moment)!!... Yes I eat meat, squish spiders, etc......but humane people wouldn't find the death of any creature enjoyable. -
Thanks guys, i'm passing on all the suggestions

It's not stress related as he also does it with dogs he likes and knows. He's partic bad with male dogs - do you think it's a dominance thing? They can't leave it, because it goes so far out the sheath goes over the bulbous base (sorry - i'm not sure of the technical term!) and it completely loses circulation. Vet said it's quite a serious situation when it goes out so far. (he often gets it out though, even when he's by himself, but it's only with other dogs that it goes out to the point of losing circulation). So gross!

Interesting - will pass on the suggestion, thanks.

Thanks Nekhbet - what is a calming paste and where do you buy it? I've already suggested to them about getting a specialist's advice, but wasn't sure what type of specialist they would have needed - all tell them to ask for reproductive one. They do this whenever his 'member' appears, but my friend isn't able to manipulate it back in by herself (luckily she's had people around to help when it's occured). She's even apprehensive about going away without the dogs just in case it happens while she's gone ;)

Hi All, Sorry, the decription of this is be a bit ;) My friend's dog likes to get his 'member' out quite frequently, but when playing with other dogs he gets soooo very excited that it gets stuck so far out it goes beyond the point of no return & starts to lose circulation. It's quite a serious situation, and my friend is so stressed about it that she's apprehensive about him socialising with other dogs. He's desexed too (quite early - aged 4mths...he's now 5.5yo), and he's been like this all his life, but it's getting worse and more frequent over time. Her vets haven't offered any valuable suggestions. Has anyone ever heard of this? Is there something that can be done?
-
Thanks for the new suggestions (i'm forwarding on). I haven't heard from them if anything has worked so far - fingers crossed something has!

For one of the dogs this is possible, but the staffy actually has got it stuck in and around her ear (no idea how she did this!). Her ear was actually stuck down to her head when they found her! I'd imagine that it'd annoy her just leaving it. She has very sensitive skin too, so chemicals are a worry.... :D

Thanks - i'm forwarding all the suggestions on. Will be interesting to see the outcome of each!

Thank guys. Trying to avoid the citrus stuff cause the staffy will run a mile at the smell (will be our last resort). Will start trying these ideas out... Cheers!

Need advice for a friend on how to get tree sap out of a dog's coat! They're short coated breeds, so you can't cut it out. (been washing and washing to no avail!). They even tried internet remedies like butter and olive oil (even a touch of WD40)....nothing worked! Thanks in advance

- what a cutie RSG!!! mackenzie - Their guts are getting better, so I think it WAS the change in diet upsetting them. I'll give them a little bit longer and see how the go
-
Good - sounds similar to the sized meals i'm giving them. I think i'll have to switch to premium food because the Optimum isn't really agreeing with them (I got them unexpectantly Wed night, so the best I could do was buy Optimum from supermarket at the time...and they only had the big bags of it!).
-
Apparently they are purebred, but they were byb and handed to a pet shop...so who knows! (pet shop said they'd be PTS cause they had small umbilical hernias)
-
Very true! Bums were trimmed last night, but the rest I'll tackle asap.
-
Thanks for the advice! Last night they ate so much I thought they may send me broke if I had to keep up that feeding rate...however today they aren't gorging themselves so i've taken the leftovers away. They haven't been wormed yet but will be wormed, deflead and bathed by the weekend. They're very cute!!

Hi Guys, I'm currently fostering a litter of 8 week old Shih tzu puppies. I have puppy dry and wet food to feed then (optimum). How much should I be feeding the 5 little rascals across 3 meals a day? (they LOVE their food - will eat any amount I put down. They're not underweight, so don't need much bulking up)...

de;ete (should have read on - sorry)

You can't see if they're full, you have to have a feel (can do this from the outside). Dogs only start scooting or licking the area if the glands are very full and uncomfortable. Unfortunately mine get anal gland issues often - the vet had to teach OH how to squeeze them cause otherwise we'd be at the vets every week with one of my dogs! (sooooo gross!).. They have hard stools too, so not sure why they get it so often lately - nothing in their diet has changed.
-
My friend is possibly moving to the US for a cpl yrs and wants to take the dogs too (the OH has been offered a once-in-a lifetime work opportunity they can't turn down). Both their dogs will be 6yo - One is a small mixed breed and quite adaptable, however the other is a stafford with sep anxiety that is an excellent escape artist (chews through fences and climbs anything). They haven't started researching what is required for travelling with dogs, but initial concerns are how they'll cope in flight as well as quaratine stays. Unfortunately neither dog copes at all without the other (will injure themselves to get to each other), so just crate training will be a big task in itself! Any advice I can pass along?

Mine are fully housetrained, but go anywhere outside. Unfortunately they especially like to do it under the clothesline (a bad trait they picked up from my parent's dogs)! I can't guide them to spot, because one of mine won't go if you're watching... (he needs absolute privacy before he'll go, and gets upset if you accidently look at him ).
