  1. Ah thanks stans mum! I'm glad I'm not the only one who likes to do this!
  2. Ok, so I approach this with trepidation...however as the season is upon us, does anyone know of anywhere in Melbourne that sells Christmas getup for dogs? Everywhere I have googled has been online... I remember getting Turtle some reindeer antlers in the Kimberley - but they were for humans...as his head was bigger than mine, bless.
  3. I can back up Persephone with the NILIF program. I did this with Turtle - much needed with a giant breed alpha male pup! It's really really hard to ignore the extinction phase - I had turtle climb onto a chair behind me as I was "ignoring him" and screech at the back of my neck (I could feel his breath). Yikes, that brings back memories. But it WORKS! I'm doing it with Omar now and it's going fairly well, but he's only 12 weeks, so baby steps. Good luck!!!
  4. Gosh - and everyone else for taking the time out to reply! It's much appreciated advice.
  5. Thanks poochmad! I will let my vet know in a few weeks. My vet is awesome by the way - after having a bad vet experience with turtle and chief, it's so great to find one who is highly recommended and who I trust.
  6. Sorry, meant in reply to Corrie, oops! Thanks for the lovely kind words guys! ❤
  7. Thanks everyone! Cass you might be thinking of Chief (?) who I rescued, a newf/border collie mix. Unfortunately both boys died within a few weeks of each other. One of the darkest times in my life. Life can be cruel.
  8. Thanks! After having bullsy Newfies, it's interesting getting used to a small breed. Stools are firming up, which is great! Thanks again
  9. Hi all, I bet you've answered this a dozen times - I searched a few threads but it wasn't specific enough to what I'm wanting to know. Omar is 10 and a half weeks and had his 2nd round of shots and a worming tablet on Saturday. He was a little lethargic that afternoon which was to be expected (and it was 32c here in Melbourne). He also had diarrhoea. He is full of beans and eating and drinking and playing, but still has some diarrhoea - it's now Monday night. He shows no other signs of being poorly, but his stools are still loose. Normal after worming? Or trip to the vet? This didn't happen with Turtle (that I can remember), so I'm a little thrown. Thanks.
  10. Thanks guys, he's definitely a sweet little nugget - bloody cheeky and hard work though ( how easily we forget!). ????
  11. Sorry, I copied this from the frenchie thread - I'm not calling your dog a clown, hehe!
  12. Hi guys, About time I showed off and introduced you to my new little dude! I used to be very active on this site a few years ago when I had my gorgeous Newfoundland, Turtle. He passed away from complications with a cruciate ligament operation 2 years ago. It broke my heart and he will always be with me. However, a few months ago I realised I was ready for another dog in my life and had always wanted a frenchie - aside from my greatest love of the Newfie (but now Turtle is gone, I will never have another one, he was my one and only Newf). Long story short, meet Omar. After months of waiting, he's finally here! He's 10 weeks old on the weekend and I've had him for a week. He's the biggest treat, but is cheeky as - and all I can say is thank dog I've done the puppy thing before, haha! I'm much more relaxed, patient and consistent this time around. It's great to meet you all, and I'm looking forward to giving you updates and getting to know your little clown dogs too. (By the way, I have moved back from the Kimberley WA to Melbourne and would love to be involved in any meet ups).
  13. Has anyone tried Hop&Scotch doggy day care out in Blackburn Victoria? Any recommendations or warnings? I live in the inner north and work in Frankston so would love to be able to have my little dude go to day care when I can't take him to work. If no one has used them, does anyone have a reputable one they can recommend? Preferably not too far off the eastern/eastlink freeway? Thanks!
  14. Turtle and Chief and their camp dog mates Solomon and Max Turtle and his bestie Max
  15. Just an update I posted in Giant Fluffies subforum...a bit of drama for the old man. I went home yesterday after work and Chief was pooing blood. I called the vet and they seemed to think it sounded like parvo or some sort of gastric thing. I freaked right out! We did the 6 hour return trip to the vet last night in Broome and apparently got there just in time as the germ hadn't spread to his blood system yet...it was some sort of gastro, it wasn't parvo (thank god). I got the biggest fright, for the whole trip in I was preparing myself for the worst, ugh, I just couldn't have done it...the poor little thing. So he's on anti-biotics and we have to watch him for the next 48 hrs and if there's no improvement by wednesday it's back to the vet. Poor Chief he's just lying on his bed hardly moving. Seems like Turtle has it too, but he has a stomach of iron and a young strong immune system. Having said that, we now need to inform a couple of people whose dogs were around Chief on the weekend, just in case, as it's contagous. Oh what a night! Poor baby.
  16. LOL ..... that wouldn't be a picture of Turtle during a storm in your signature picture, would it? touche Erny! Nah, just a lazy Newf
  17. Oh reading this just made me realise that Turtle doesn't do that anymore... He must be all grown up I wish...
  18. Great reply erny - as usual When we got Turtle, we would just put the lead on him in the back yard and let him drag it...as he is a Newfoundland and was a massive pup, the weight of it didn't affect him so I don't think he really noticed it. Just get your pup used to having it on, don't try walkies yet. Once pup is ok with the lead, try picking it up and walking alongside - again, just in the back yard and for short amounts of time. Make sure once you are actually walking your dog that you teach it to heal next to you and not pull - the earlier you do this the better. But this won't be for a while. Good luck
