Getting Grass Seeds Out Of Long Fur

Keep going Caro....you are doing a great job . Think of all this quality time you are spending with your babies... -
Enmark, I think the green stuff you are refering to is Trigene. It is great stuff but yes it is expensive. Our Vet gave us some when we had some Parvo-ish issues. Then we bought some F10. We also use bleach but it stinks! You can use the Trigene and F10 on the grass without killing it too. Not the bleach though.

Getting Grass Seeds Out Of Long Fur

We use either Coat Magic from Animal House or Avocado Mist from EQyss to groom our Poms. Once when one of them had a bad matt attack (I used the wrong shampoo ) the OH mangaged to get every one out with a small comb and lots of Coat Magic. It makes the hair slippery so the comb goes through it heaps easier. Time and patience wins the day! -
I have tried two online stores to buy a pair of thinning scissors but they are out of stock . I have tried Pet Network and Groomers Products and have been told they are not getting anymore stock of the Shear Magic ones. I don't want to pay a fortune but don't want rubbish either. Can anyone post a link to some other store for me?

Dr Bruce Syme is Australian. If all Australian chickens are now antibiotic and hormone free, why would a butcher advertise on a large board in front of his shop that his chicken is antibiotic and hormone free? He should not have too if it is the norm one would think?
-
This website is very interesting. I was surprised how chicken only got 3/10, when it is so much advertised by Billinghurst and Lonsdale as being excellent RMB for dogs. I will need to do some more research about that I think if it had no additives and hormones etc. it would get a better rating. Great if you can source clean chooks I guess, or grow your own. I found a butcher this week that claims his chook is clean.

The link I posted above gives several reasons why pork is not an ideal part of our dogs diet. Still my favourite meat though...yum.

Sorry...should now

Check out this link. Dr Bruce thinks pork is the least suitable meat for dogs. Click on the link in the article that says Nutrition for dogs. Nutrition for dogs

I just picked up Boo from the Vet. She had a retained canine removed. Spud had 3 removed last year as well. My question is this: can dogs have more than one type of canine? I didn't think so but the receptionist said that Boo had a double root canine whereas Spud's were all single root, I think she said front canines but aren't all canines in the front??? . The reason I questioned her was because Spud's extraction cost $135.00 for three teeth and Boo cost $175.00 for ONE tooth! She said it is harder to pull a double root canine. Did I get ripped off???? I was going to ask the Vet but they said he was busy and sent Boo out with someone else. BTW it is the same Vet and we spend heaps of money there! Now I feel like a dumb s**t for not knowing this if it is true

Everyone has different opinions I guess. We take a multi vitamin so why shouldn't our dogs? Because they are dogs and not humans right? But animals need and utilise Vitamins and Minerals the same as humans so why not err on the side of caution? JMO.The experts say that if we take a multi and our body doesn't need something it will just expel the unused vitamin/s. I give mine a daily vitamin boost just to be on the safe side. I am not feeding raw atm though (and I can hear the howls of indignation from here!). Mine get cooked roo/lamb/beef mix in the ratio of 50%/25%/25% + a small amount of finely diced liver, eggs & some veggies. All meat is human grade. They get a raw meaty bone for breakfast, mostly lamb riblets or beef tails and the occasional chicken neck. They only get the RC once or maybe twice a week if we are away at a show, I don't have any bones defrosted or am too lazy. They also get fish once or twice a week. Poms don't eat a great amount which makes it hard to mix additives into their food but the Dr Bruce's Vit Booster doesn't bother them at all. They also get Protexin every night in their food. I will give extra Vit C in times of need only. I will probably go back to feeding raw soon though. We just went through some bad times with some puppies and I got a bit germaphobic...especially with chicken.

Checked out Pet Cafe today. They do roo for around $3-4/kg. Heaps cheaper than Woolies or Coles

Thanks for the tips on Ester C. It looks much better than the usual stuff.

Are you stressed daily persephone? I am .... maybe I should get me some of that.
-
That looks like a great site 4 Paws. I will look in more depth shortly when I have a bit more time. At first glance though it seems to have most things you could want.
-
Opinions vary so much on feeding extra C. That is why I asked. Most Vets tell you not to add C as dogs manufacture their own. That is true, but in times of stress or sickness they don't make enough to cope. As C is soluble, it is used really quickly by the body. Have you ever read this ..... Link We found it really interesting reading even though it was written some time ago. Others subscribe to these same principles though so it may be worth thinking about. I was adding C to my dogs diet daily until I got some Dr Bruces All Natural Health Booster. It has everything in it. I will still add extra though if they get sick or go through some major stress times.

Hi cm, We get Vit C from any health store in powdered form. You must make sure it is the Sodium Ascorbate one though. Then you can either mix it with water and give it orally or mix it in their food. In times of need you can also inject them (im) with it. You get that one from any good produce store. You can also get iv injectable Vit C but it is harder to get. Can I ask why you are asking?

A good chiro is invaluable. A bad one (read back yard wanna be) can cause irrepairable damage. Get lots of positive feedback on the one you choose to use. When you do choose one and take your dog to him/her, if you can usually tell if they know what they are doing. You know when you get that feelling that all is not well. Well I do anyway

You Victorians sound spoilt! Bucket 'O' Beef sounds good too. Do they charge much to deliver? Mummys mix (meat, veg, eggs) ends up costing around $2.00/day to feed to my Poms so it is not really much in the grand scheme of things. Plus they get raw bones or RC dry for breakky.
-
I get the roo mince from the meat dept. at Woolies. Just bought 3kg at $7.29/kg. It is worth it though for my peace of mind. Only the best for my spoilt brats! I just went and checked out Big Dog too and they don't stock roo mince . They do have roo tails. They have really good prices on all their meat & bones though. And the Barf Patties are cheaper than the Pet Store I was buying them from.
-
I have been getting my roo from Woolies. It is expensive though at around $7/kg. I saw some posts on here about a place at Lawnton recently and went to check it out. It was shut for Christmas but it is reopening on Monday so I will be going again. It is off Paisley Dr at Lawnton anyway...don't know if that is too far away for you? Found the link for you Big Dog

I must be so boring. My guys only get sardines mixed in with their normal food once or maybe twice a week. Is mackeral better than sardines? I never even thought to give them other fish. Does this make me a bad mummy?

One of our Poms did the regular vomitting thing a while ago. Diahorrea too. Turns out he has a sensitive tummy and we have not had a problem since adding Protexin to his meal once a day. Great stuff that Protexin
