its not like big scabs theyre tiny ones - like something bit him, he scratched till it scabbed and the scabs come off thing is i havent seen him scratch AT ALL he is sleeping peacefully on the couch next to me - no snotty sounds - unlike last night where i had to kick him out of my bed cause he was so loud I couldnt sleep I gave him some meloxicam which should reduce any swelling there might be I THINK this is related to him digging in a certain spot so Im going to bar that area but if he isnt clearing up with anti histamines off to the vet AGAIN and if its KC I checked his temp - 38.2 - normal he is active but obviously due to his nose his activity isnt last as long - he is getting puffed are once a day anti histamines better than others? If its KC not much to do same as with human flu - which im not havin the shot for ever again if its an allergy which i think it is - anti histamines SHOULD show some improvement Its been going on for weeks on and off but he has recently started digging and the laws were mowed 3 weeks ago - and its been worse since if its a fungal infection would something not have shown up on his blood test? white cell count etc? Foreign body is unlikely - he would be uncomfortable more often though it did cross my mind bump/injury is very unlikely he is sleepin soundly, mouth closed, no sound KC is bad news here as I have a senior that would be my only worry. she might have to go stay with relatives for a while

Ok Ill try some anithistamines to start with - they may help i need to go through the yard and make sure it isnt any particular plant Ill take sonme photos and post them Im not in the bush but theres a lot more grass here than our last home
-
ok lets look at stay differently Stay isnt a command its a position you want the dog to keep until it is released so you need to develop a release word sit - stay - free as you develop the stay command you wait longer and longer to give the release command

my first thought too but Ive had dogs with KC before and Ive never had snot and no cough. temp was good - will check it again tonight its been happening for about 3 weeks on and off - today is the first day he has sneezed he has been at the vets 3 times - 2 different vets - could they both have missed this? its seem isolated to his face but yea it was my first thought too If it is KC not much to do - he just finished a course of antibiotics but saying that KC is a virus so that wont affect it Anyway his nose looks swollen to me not bulbus but not normal

Clicker Training To Stop Barking?
BaaabyFlynn replied to GSD FAN's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I prefer a whistle - now Im not bird charmer but I can do a nice clear whistle and if I have my hands full - say with washing - it's easier to whistle than to clap lol - but whatever you use as NW said - prime it. I also challenge you to prime a clap - where you gonna put the treats hehe -
Ok my male gsd has a snotty nose its not a coloured discharge - it's not even a discharge really When he breathes you can hear there is stuff in there just now I rubbed his nose and snot bubble appeared - EWWW Aside from his nose he has discharge from one eye - that is just dirty He has also sneezed a few times today - in fact he just did so so violently it set one of my other dogs barking Right now he is breathing through his nose - not panting - and is breathing clearly but heavily if that makes sense On top of his nose he had some scabs - i picked them off and its just healthy skin underneath he is not vaccinated - hasnt been for 2 years but at 9 and will have his next shots next year He was at the vets this week for blood tests and a check up etc and everything is normal but the vet was none the wiser about the nose - wasn't too worried either. All I can think is 1. he has been digging, got dirt up his nose 2. he is suffering from hayfever 3. both of the above anyone else got any ideas? Next step is to give him antihistamines - but which one and how much? vet said approx a human dose - gee thanks

Boosting Numbers At A Club
BaaabyFlynn replied to Nevafollo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
what has made me leave almost every single club I attended was the fact that there was no consistency between the trainers OK - sure - have your own methods but the goal needs to be the same. For instance - some people teach sit by tucking a dogs bum under, others lure - either way is fine and painless and gets the same result However, if one person teaches sit by tucking dogs bum under and another says well you dont need to know sit lets work on something else - its frustrating I also believe the ethics of a club will keep people there - positive reinforcement, traditional, etc - gauge the clientel. You need to offer some different things trialing obedience agility obedience for life tricks training doggy dancing etc I would also follow up. as a dog trainer I didnt always know peoples names but I always knew the dogs i trained and I always made sure to ask - so how is Barney going with the recall? If the owner said - oh terrible - i would help them out - i would remember it and take it into my class and make sure that lesson we broke down the recall more thats another thing - you might not be breaking things down enough sit for example involve pay me attention my hand in the right place my hand moving in the right direction dog following it and plonking bum down dog not moving til released thats just for SIT anyway just a few ideas -
Best Treat When Rewarding In Training

try cat treats I love liver for training - 1 liver makes enough treats for 5 weeks of training - cheap and cheerful -
Clicker Training To Stop Barking?
BaaabyFlynn replied to GSD FAN's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
hang on the clicker is a marker of correct behaviour in normal circumstances if you click a dog that is barking and you are rewarding the behaviour since you arent using it for training you may as well use it to distract her, but what if you want to do clicker training later? the click is NOT pp unless there is something undesirable associated with it - such as click - drag her away from the fence Why is she barking? What is triggering it? My dogs dont bark at the neighbours when they are out unless they are right up against the fence -
Help? Info On Running Puppy Preschool
BaaabyFlynn replied to GSD FAN's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
If I was putting a course together - say 6 weeks - once a week - i would do a "unit plan" I want to help people achiever these things - 1,2,3,4 and this is how I want to help them So for instance your goals might be to teach people 1. basics of responsible dog ownership 2. recall 3. sit 4. basic medical stuff owners should know (how to put on flea treatment etc - some owners have NO idea) or basic first aid Week 1. Introduction Basics of their rights and responsibilities - 5 minutes - people dont want to be lectured a list of useful contacts - emergency centres, dog parks, walkers etc - best to get one together and give them in a puppy pack Social time - talk about revving up and calming down - and the proper way to meet and greet talk about desexing pros and cons Teach recall Homework: practice recall 2. Answer questions Recap homework Social time Teach sit Homework: Sit 3. Answer questions Recap homework Practice recall Social time Emergency bandaging Homework: practice bandages etc etc etc those may not be the things you teach but that is the method I would use -
Leather Martingale Collars
BaaabyFlynn replied to 4 Paws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I tried to use them - lds leather - a few years ago after stuffing me around (custom collar) they basically ignored my emails. So if you get a business thing going with them it would be good for people like me as their products are exactly what I am after -

Do You Think You Hold Your Dog Back?
BaaabyFlynn replied to Purpley's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I don't think anyone who works to learn with their dog holds them back. Success is measured far beyond ribbons and points. -
