  1. Glad to hear it's normal Riley hiccups about 4 or 5 times a week sometimes a few times a day, I thought it might be because he swallows air when he's playing or something my horses hiccup too which is even funnier to watch than a puppy
  2. AAAWWWWWWWWW they are all so cute.................. Name: Riley Sex: Male Nickname: Child of Satan (when he goes into an attacking my feet and running around like crazy frenzy) ! Breed: German Shephard DOB: 26 June 2007 Age: 12 weeks tomorrow Hobbies: Chewing owner's feet Loves: Humping and playing Hate: Bathes and being ignored
  3. Sorry don't have any helpful advice but welcome to my world AND I discovered last night that Riley loves the taste of bitter bite spray he was licking all the furniture I sprayed it on he's a freak.........
  4. Hi Zoepuppy I'm jealous your puppy sounds like an angel I must admit OH and myself took Riley to the park on Sunday and he only complained a little on the way there and was so tired on the way home he didn't make a sound was out cold the whole way home. Then last night went to puppy pre school and he cried and carried on the whole way there but was really well behaved all the way home so I talked to him in a really really nice voice all the way home and he was wide awake listening to my everyword with his head moving from side to side very cute.
  5. While most dogs would have figured it out with appropriate training by 6 months of age, it's not a given so don't bank on it. Yes I know not to expect anything to go like clock work with a bub pup am just being hopeful is all !
  6. I have an 11½ week old GS male and he is doing a similar thing he stays outside during the day whilst I am at work and generally wees on command when I take him out when I am home, however, he tends in the evenings to happily go outside for a drink (we leave the backdoor open a little so he can go out whenever he wants) but will come back inside and at least two times a week wee in a different place in the house each time (he has just started walking and weeing at the same time leaving trails as he goes) !!!!!! I have spoken to the teachers at puppy preschool about this and they said that it's probably just that he doesn't want to leave myself and my OH as he's so excited that we're home. They suggested the same thing as schnauzer_luv just be persistent and keep taking him out more often every 20 mins or so if required and shower him with praise and affection when he does go outside. Apparently eventually (by 6 months) he'll figure it out, he too holds on all night and wakes us about 5.50 am to go every day.
  7. If you include the times myself and OH are telling Riley to stop biting, chewing etctera then yes he does get attention almost all of the waking hours were home and when we aren't he is baby sat by 5 year old female lab who lets him jump all over her and bite her everywhere so that fact she doesn't get cranky at him prob doesn't help he doesn't seem to know when enough is enough.
  8. Thanks KitKat I will keep being consistent and I am sure he'll come around sooner or LATER he is an attention seeking showoff so I believe your theory of doing it for attention is spot on. He does get ALOT of attention but clearly all 24 hours of the day should be dedicated to him in his mind.
  9. No Rainey I have not but will give that a go as well one more thing I have read somewhere that I haven't tried is spraying him with a water spray maybe that would work although he loves water ?
  10. "I love labs...and they are seriously wonderful dogs...but there is a reason why i have GSD's now ;) " Have been reading this topic with much interest as I have the same problem with my 11 week old GS puppy, he's totally adorable but it's got to the point where I am too scared to wear no shoes anywhere near him as he's going to take off a toe soon With reference to KitKat's above comment how did you stop your GSD's doing this or didn't they ? I have tried all the things Rainey has tried, growling, yelping, ignorning, sin bin, giving him a toy instead, holding his mouth closed, pulling him away by the scruff of his neck (although I don't like doing this but on occasion will in desperation) and he just seems to get more excited when I growl or yell, brings the toy over to my feet then drops it and attacks my feet again, if I sin bin him as soon as I let him out within ten mins it's on again and if I ignore him he just keep persisting on chasing me and attacking my feet, if I stand perfectly still he then either continues to attack my stationary feet or humps my leg !!!!!!!!! He started puppy school last week and they told me to continue with all of the above any other suggestions anyone ????????
  11. My younger Kelpie loves the car but when he was a pup he tried to eat the seat covers so he mostly travels in a crate which he loves. I am trying to get him used to a car harness, but he is still not sure about that, freaked out the first time and tangled himself - we had to stop the car and undo all the buckles to get him free! Sounds familar I had to stop the car on the way to the vets for vacc no 2 last week as Riley was wriggling so much he ended up stuck upside down and couldn't get up right he freaked as did I since I was on the New England Highway had to pull over in a dairy cattle farmers driveway to free him so he'd stop whinging
  12. Thanks for all the advice ! Riley and I spend some time in the car last night and he was happy to curl up on the back seat and go to sleep I also put him back in the car this morning and drove out of the garage with him just lying on the backseat without the harness (I know not restraining him in harness or crate is bad but it was only for 2 seconds and I just let the car roll out of the garage) !!!!!!!!!!! Please no one get mad at me, he was happy with that as he could look out the window and see where we were going with the harness he's forced as you know to sit low in the seat and I guess he can't see what's going on. We have a crate but it only arrived on Wed evening we are going to get serious about crate training this weekend so will experiment with travelling him in the crate once he gets used to it.
  13. He thinks he's pretty spunky too which is half the problem ! Can't wait to get home and tell OH he's banned from the car when Riley's in it for the time being ............. Ha-ha
  14. Thanks for that LittleMiss I have tried that approach and I have to say he behaves far quicker when it's just myself and Riley (GSD) in the car, when my OH is in the car too he puts his hand on the back seat so the dog can lie on it and he talks to him telling him it's ok. I keep telling my OH to ignore him as his reassuring Riley is making him think there is something to be scared of in the first place !!!!!!!! I might ban OH from car trips until Riley and I sort this problem out......
  15. Yes I certainly have a sook on my hands as well ! I guess that's the key patience and time maybe I should try giving him small treats in the car whilst I am sitting with him whilst the car is not moving (as he will do just about anything for food) he might start associating the car with food and look forward to going for a road trip ? Or alternatively try to eat the car when he grows up......
  16. My exceptionally cute (pic attached) GSD does not like riding in the car, he does not throw up nor does he do no 1 or no 2's in the car. His problem is that he cries and howls like someone is trying to kill him and won't settle in his harness he tries to wiggle out of it and wants to jump in the front seat on my lap. It's really hard to drive whilst he's doing this and I am worried he is going to hurt himself. He usually settles down after 10 mins sometimes it takes longer up to 20 mins (he then goes to sleep and everything is fine). When he gets a bit older I would like to take him to work with me everyday which means he will be in the car twice a day for about 20 mins and my OH's family lives 4 hours away and we would like to take him with us when we visit them. As he's going to be a large dog I really want to fix this problem whilst he's still at a managable size and at his most responsive age for learning. I have tried letting him sit in the harness in the driveway when the car is off and on and he doesn't mind that it's just when I am driving and he is forced to sit still in the harness that he throws a tantrum !!!!!!
