23 runs OMG I need to sit down and pour a drink just thinking about it. I now have visions of you being only half my age - so I can rest easy tonight. Well done you deserve a medal - I am super impressed Staffylover well done on your first up runs - you will find you and your handling will be better next time. Tassie - I love your lifestyle and what you do with your kids. Kirra and Rory certainly had a good weekend. So dare I ask when Rory will hit the agility ring? You mean you can't hear me singing and dancing and doing a jig?? Tears in my eyes as Scoota came out firing not only in the morning trial, but also again this arvo. It was sooooo nice to have my red boy back, happy, and full of life. It means so much to me and you can't wipe the smile off my face :D He did some lovely work, lacked a bit of finness, but its the attitude that I would like to bottle. Beans, actually tried hard today, and won open as all the others had a few little hiccups.

Wuffles your figure 8 problem is relatively easy to fix. If you use a clicker click the step before she would normally look away. Do this 3-4 times and the dog will automatically keep looking at you expecting a treat at the same place - then extend it 2 steps before clicking and bob should be your uncle

ST I could spend hours just sitting and watching your babies. Hard to believe in 4 weeks time they will be going to their new homes.

I use metal too for the seekback with decoy, HOWEVER since Sydney i have been having issues, not all the time, he seems to save it for trialling, so I was also thinking of changing to wood, but wood is so much harder to see, so I haven't done so yet. Tomorrow may help me make my decision though. I think Xena 98 has also had seekback metal issues. Sorry to hear no passes for you today Kallistar

Well done Nik - you would have to be happy So onto Novice you go....... Just a question for everybody....... If you got your dog out on a trial day and they were flat - what do you do???
-
Woo Hoo at last OSoSwift looking forward to catching up .....

Actually giving you an experienced dog is sometimes the way to help with the nerves, knowing that when you give a signal and the dog will actually do it really helps. Having a dog heelng with confidence really helps. Hmm maybe I could start a business here called rent a dog

BIG Click and treat Leopuppy. When you get your first UD pass - we will hear the Champaign corks popping
-
Have you tried mentally preparing - seeing your dog heeling well and not running off. Doing a SFE and not moving and the recall - coming when called with a lovely present. I guess I find it hard to offer suggestions with running off as none of my kids would ever do it - to them I am the one who rewards and to them food is the greatest reward. Wish you were here so we could help you out......
-
Well done Leo and Leopuppy - it nice to slip back into open to boost the confidence. Now don't you go giving up on UD now will you Just keep plugging away ;)

Rubystar - did you get the back of your car sorted and are you happy with it? The back of my car got vaccuumed today
-
well done wuffles So when is your next real trial?
-
Thanks Short Step - this info I can relate to. I have decided to get him done at the same time as I get Cider done and as others have said I can redo him if needs be. The last girl I had x-rayed I had the x-rays read by 2 different vets +OFA and the results were a total of 21, 17 and the OFA rated as fair.

I certainly would take the opportunity to jackpot some heelwork. Have a treat in a container in your pocket. Remember not to let the dog see you load your pocket with treats before you go in and if she is working particularly nicely - then fire away and jackpot it. The look on her face should be priceless . Have fun

I guess what I would like to know is why people want to wait until after 18 months - whats so magical about that age. Most of the breeders I know wait until close to 2 but when asked why nobody can actually tell me what it is about this age - it just seems to have been passed around the breeders circle as "the age" to get them done. I guess there is no right and wrong answer to this question - and everybody has their own ideas - but just trying to get it right in my head whether I would be better off waiting to get the boy done (as there is no rush) or whether I have nothing to lose getting him done at 14 months (when I get my other one done).
-
Thanks for the info and keep the info coming...... Just out of interest - anybody happy to disclose what age they x-rayed for breeding purposes, not because you thought that there was a problem?
-
I have 2 kids that need hip xrays done. One is two this month, the only one is my Norweign boy who is 13 months old. In Norway they x-ray between 12-24 months with the preference being the younger the better. His breeder has suggested getting him done at the same time as my girl. In the past I have had the hips x-rayed at different ages, 14 months for one but usually around 2 years of age. So just wondering what age most people x-ray and their reasoning for it.
