  1. Wow Mirawee I think you should have one of both colours - bit like a hand bag where you can mix and match I had hips and elbows done at Applecross in 2011, and sat in the waiting room while they were done. From memory it was just over $500 for 2 dogs. I sent the x-rays to Rawlinson in South Australia as Wyburn was no longer reading x-rays.
  2. I feed a couple of mine (including my OC dog) before obedience training
  3. Good idea, I do notice that she tends to look at my hands when she comes in for a front (anticipating the treat - even though it's pretty rare for them to come straight from my hands ) so that could be a possible cause. Basically your dogs doesn't know what you want without all the cues. So to her standing looking at her with bent knees, hands in front twidling of the fingers means come front. Standing there doing nothing she is unsure. I started as TSD suggested sitting in front of TV with my legs out and I throw treats and the dog uses the guide of my legs to find front. You can do a zillion of these every night with out much thought You than progress to using the sides of the box when you take it out to the oval if you still feel that she needs help. With Strauss I do sometimes throw the food between my legs and tell him to get it as he has an issue with coming in close. I highlighted one of your posts - fronts is the one time 99% of the treats come from my hands which are right in front of where the dogs nose should be. Every time I ask for a front I want the dog to think its going to get rewarded if it comes in and presents perfectly. If it doesn't get treated its because it is slightly off. The treats are already in my hands when I about turn as I don't want diving into my pocket to be a part of the cue. Front are also something that need continual work - I don't feel its something you can say - ok she understands it now so I never have to practice it again, unlike the box which for me, as long as the dog sits in the box I really don;t care if its in the middle or towards the back or even to one side (I can feel a slap coming from Caffy )
  4. and your heart rate at the time was???? Well done talk about distraction training she was a very good girl! Your seekback must be more rewarding that chasing a roo.
  5. Cavstar - I tend to wait until the dog knows something before introducing something new. Hmm let me rephrase this - for a 14 week old puppy I would tend to wait until it knows something before teaching it something new. You should find that the puppy is like a sponge trying to soak up as much information as possible so really it shouldn't take long to teach basic behaviours. For older kids - I don't think this is quite the same - I would teach scent, while also teaching the box. Or teach heeling while also teaching dumbbell, but these are more complex behaviours, which take a lot long to teach than a sit or a down or a shake hands.
  6. slow to respond to the drop?? If he is stands in front of you how quickly does he drop? what about in heel position? My kids all go down like they have been shot. You can start off with him close by ask him to drop if he takes more than a millisecond to respond mark it with oh too bad. and walk away. Try again a few seconds later. It gets to the point where you are rewarding the fast ones and marking the ones that take too long. You can also play dropping games between the two boys -first one down gets the treat
  7. Hey anglesun are you coming to WA the weekend of the 5th February for a Rally O seminar?
  8. 2 food game with drops throw in - but not every time.
  9. I have decided that sleeping is over rated - so will pinch an hour from that bucket and if I halved my shower and eating times - there is another few minutes - so looks like I have plenty of time I was always going to do tracking with Lara, I had a couple of training sessions many many many years ago, but I just never got back to it. Then when Strauss came along and didn't have the get up and go for an obedience dog, I thought perhaps tracking might be for him BUT I have since found his "crazy" button as his breeder calls it and he might just be my next obedience dog after all, so thinking Beans or Lexi might get a guernsey for this gig.
  10. Mirawee you are so calm - I guess I just don't do waiting very well.
  11. TO I still think of Jovi as being a baby - which is definitely not the case. What a great start to her career. Tassie - how lucky are you to have 2 trials on the one day and how good are you to get 4 passes with 2 kids. A great result Now did you get any of it on video???
  12. It wasn't the girl, but the boy child this morning
  13. and the winner is...... STrauss by the length of the straight First 2 and last 2 weavers are angled - all the rest are straight. These are his runs from tonight which includes one where he misses the last couple, but he is doing a great job and is really starting to power through them. I am also starting to give him more room. Cider on the other hand will begin remedial weaver training when I have the strength
  14. Will we see you there next time ;) CC having a hard run of it at the moment. Thinking that they will name a chair in the Emergency Department waiting room after me since I am spending so much time there of late. Had nothing better to do this morning between 2 and 4am so thought I would go and keep the seat warm for a couple of hours. Maybe next time........
  15. Looks like you all had a lot of fun, and terrific photos CC
  16. What a great way to start the New Year Terranik. Well done to you and the 3 kids
  17. Or tollers? That's how I judge a dog book
  18. Does anybody know if snakes are a problem this time of year at Riverside Gardens?
  19. Tracking is on my to-do list kathq - but unfortunately that list is getting pretty long now Zug Zug hows your new addition coming along?
  20. Day 17 of learning to weave. Strauss had only 3 runs tonight and did 3 nice runs, he is now lowering his head as he weaves. Cider had 10 runs at least and she would miss the entry, run down the side or pop out, all the time keeping her weaving action - bless her. She is in such a rush that I am sure in her own mind she gets it right, but from an outsiders view - its ugly. We managed 2 ok runs at the end - so I quit while we were ahead. The kids haven't had any jump training - so guilty of lumping - yet again.....
  21. Mirawee I started channel weave training Cider and Strauss on the 13th December - very interesting to see the differences in technique and how quickly they caught on and now how consistent they are. I have been posting clips in the training thread. All 12 weavers are in line and I have now angled the tops out. Tonight I am introducing a jump before the weavers....... I tried 2 x 2 with Cider and I just didn't get it She was more interested in looking at the ball/food/toy I had in my hand than working out what she was supposed to do
  22. We had a crappy Xmas, long story but all ended well. Then last night Cider tore her dew claw and it was sticking out sideways So off to the vet we went - only to find the vet closed and the vet sitting on the steps (he was waiting for somebody to pick something up). Anyway to cut a long story short - he opened up dealt with the nail, bandaged the foot and did the paperwork - all over and done with in about 15 minutes. This Vet and his practice impresses me more and more with each dealing I have with them. RnR - good to see photos of your boy
