I have always said that its much harder for an older dog to do quarantine than a puppy, but I think Chica is proving my theory wrong. She is confident, nosey and is coping OK. They have introduced some more Stoopid quarantine rules since we were there last, but I managed to get around one of them today. I think the girl realised how stoopid she sounded when she was trying to tell me they don't do that - so she gave in

I was thinking of you CC as I walked into Quarantine at lunch time as that is where we met 18 months or so ago. Came home to find the news on Louis - poor fella. Glad to hear the reaction has settled and I have my fingers and toes crossed that the results come back OK.

I'm in tomorrow with my rottis if my ankle is up to it i rolled it yesterday and can't walk today Yikes Emery. Ice and elevation for the rest of the day! You might need to strap it tomorrow?

Yes he will Because you can't give him a perfect score when there are dogs who will drop like they have been shot and perfectly straight. Something to aim and work towards. Its funny - you learn with your subsequent dogs to train everything well the first time - where your first dog you are always retraining and fixing problems. I lost count the number of times I had to retrain Lara.

Lucky you Did you see Amypie and Rubystar while you were there?

HMm not feeling brave enough to post there just yet having just had a look at whose on the list. I feel it wouldn't matter what I said I would be chewed up, spat out and stomped on and that would be before they got the knives out as I have seen the dark side of a couple of people on the list who don't give a rats about obedience
-
Maybe we could do a swap Leopuppy a red one for a black one?
-
I just wish a few more would voice their thoughts on WA click Hey ST - have a great holiday if I don't see you before you go. Looking forward to hearing all about it.

OK having a whinge (how unusual I hear you all say ) I have been doing obedience for 14 years and every year we have made the Obedience Challenge Final we have received a letter from K9 saying well done your dog....... has made the ...... final. This year they posted it on a list and said by the way well done vetting is at....... I really feel sorry for the people who have qualified for the first time and wont be lucky enough to ever have received a letter from K9 saying well done. For some of them as they move up the ranks they may never qualify again I have stuck my neck on the chopping block on WA Click and now wait for the knives to be drawn........ OH and Chic is here (I think/hope)

What Do You Teach First?
Ptolomy replied to Rilla-My-Rilla's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hmm this got me thinking - I probably teach them that I am the most important thing in the entire world and that all good things and fun come from me. -
I found this http://www.nsdtrc-usa.org/PDF_forms/Grooming.pdf

The block was interesting - any loose hair attached itself to the block and then you could just pick it off. None of the dogs seemed to mind the block either - which was good. The downside was that I had psyched myself up to it being a cure for all those foofy bits and we aren't talking just a few foofy bits here - but a truckload, and it isn't. So today I sat down with the stripping knife and started stripping. Its going to take several goes but I think it is the only way. and yes Puddleduck - her lines are particularly bad for foofy bits once steralised, backlegs, front legs and chest.

You could also try using a barrier to help with the straight sits and down - use a wall, even a hose on the ground - they tend to get the idea pretty quickly. One other thing - how you give the reward also plays a big part if you are using your right hand - the dogs tend to come across your body to get it - make sure you are rewarding down your left leg . I do a lot of rewarding in position with my left hand.
