Oakley my little man went to the bridge on Tuesday night after a short battle with heart failure. Oakley and his sibling Chloe were rescued from Renbury Farm in early 2012. They were very lucky to go as a pair to rescue where we found them in April after losing our two elderly dogs a month apart. We fell for both of them immediately and although they both had some issues we accepted that. They were 10 years old so needed time to settle. Oakley was a gentle boy who I absolutely adored and my heart breaks all over again every time I remember his soulful eyes. He was diagnosed with end stage heart failure in early December and we knew we didn't have long. Quality not quantity. The massive storms we had last weekend terrified him and his heart was very stressed. He didn't recover do we made the dreaded decision to let him go. Chloe was with him while the vet came to our house and with the dignity he always showed, Oakley crossed over the bridge quietly in my arms hearing my voice as he went. Bye baby boy, you touched my heart like no other, handsome man.

I can do this if still required. -
My old Stafford was treated for paralysis tick and the anti venom gave her pancreatitis which is incredibly painful. She spent a further 4 days at the vets on pain relief and fluids. Have they taken a full set of bloods?

Bison The Rottweiler And His Lymphoma Battle
baifra replied to DerRottweiler's topic in Palliative Care Forum
The hardest part for me when I lost both my girls earlier this year was coming home to an empty house. Like you said.... It just feels strange. What about contacting PACERS? I'm sure they know of families doing it tough. It's a very kind thing to do at such a sad time for you. -

Rest easy Bison. I'm so sorry for your loss. Take care. -
As much as I hate to say it.....Maybe this is a good thing? He will pretty much be living in a fishbowl. Every time he eyeballs this dog he will be watched and judged (rightly so) so he really can't afford to put a foot wrong. His very high profile could really help to change what is culture to some. Just thinking out loud really.

I have a ' pig in mud' dog door that fits into sliding door. I love it. You lock it in and when we go away I just slip it straight out for extra security. I can fit through my dog door but that doesn't really concern me. I figure that if someone wants to break in, they will so I'd rather them not break windows or doors down to get in. Plus anyone who is brave enough to jump into a yard with my two is welcome to anything they want!! They may get in but not get out. I bought it for my lab x mastiff to fit through years ago and it's still going strong.

I'm so sorry for yor loss MsDani. Rest easy little one. You gave him the greatest gift you can give... That is a dignified, loving and painless passing over the bridge. He knew how hard it was for you to do and he wouldn't want you to feel guilt. He will always be in your heart, thoughts and memories. You did him proud. I'm sure he will always be thankful for the wonderful life you gave him. Take care of yourself and allow yourself to grieve for as long as you need to.

I don't mind that people talk about my elderly dogs that way. It's a conversation starter and it's nice to see people paying attention enough to recognise that they are greying, or slow or not as spritely as they used to be.

Urgent Advice Needed - Paralysis Tick Prognosis
baifra replied to Grove_burger's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My old Stafford spent five days at the vets, three of those on oxygen and not looking good after tick paralysis (tick never found but same symptoms) She pulled through at 14 years of age so it's really hard to say how long to keep going for. Good luck. I know it's a frightening time.
