  1. You could always consider clipping the hair around the eyes. I always did this on my grooming dogs as it just looks ugly
  2. Have you tried local vet clinics? I used to groom at a vet clinic.
  3. I second Pet Sitters Australia Maybe keep us in mind for next time. I am one of the carers and have 10 years experience in the animal industry. We offer overnight care in your home, which we recommend for older dogs that may not cope with being boarded. Good luck!
  4. Pet Sitters Australia offers dog walking. Check out www.petsitaus.com.au
  5. i was thinking of getting a cubby house but wondered if i could get anything slightly cheaper. will email some cubby builders and see what they say. thanks
  6. I'm looking for someone to possibly build me a dog kennel with attached verandah, kind of like the one here but without the mesh panels. http://www.dogruns.com.au/dog-runs-enclosu...f-over-all.html If anyone knows someone in Adelaide that may be able to do this and can give me a quote, please let me know.
  7. A C4 covers only the viral component - Parainfluenza of kennel cough/canine cough, whereas the C% covers the bacterial component - Bordatella Bronchiseptica (BB) of Kennel cough/Canine Cough. So a C4 plus BB equals a C5. Vet clinics have their own policies on which vaccines they routinely give so maybe next time you book it you could tell them you only want a C4. You need a C5 to board dogs, and should this happen either planned or in an emergency. Although I dont board my dog she is always given a C5 for my peace of mind and to protect me dog as I work with animals and would hate to bring something home to her. The clinic I work at asks what the clients want and says you only need a C4 unless you board but in my opinion if you take your dog to a park or even out on a walk it has a chance to get kennel cough. Diseases can be brought home to the pets also on clothes, shoes etc. Its not a huge price difference for peace of mind Hope this helps!
  8. love the pic. have walked greys past cats meowing for attention and they couldn't care less. They are great dogs and I wish more people would see them as pets. My next dog will be a grey
  9. Older dogs have a greater risk when under anaesthetic so having Pre GA bloods done prior is essentail, so if there are some issues the vet can choose the safest drugs to use. At the clinic I work at we have had a 1o year old malamute die after routine surgery. It doesnt happen often but it can happen.
  10. Tattoos fade over time and are barely noticeable little dots in the desexing symbol. I don't see the issue with them.
  11. I use Vets All natural Joint Formula for my 10 year old GSD. I get it from Petstock and it's reasonably priced.
  12. some pet sitters, like us at pet sitters australia offer overnight care and can incorporate visits for play or walks during the day. It all depends on what people are willing to pay. Otherwise dogs may benefit from being in a home environment within the carers home. PSA also offer that. Because of a dog's social requirements we dont offer just a feeding service where a carer pops in for a few minutes a day. Kerry has been involved in rescue for many years and understands what dog's need to be happy and healthy when their owners are away, and so has designed the business to cater to this.
  13. By all means AussieVee. Always nice to meet another pet carer professional.
  14. Anyone interested in pet sitters - try Pet Sitters Australia. We are in SYdney and Adelaide. We can care for pets in your home which involves the carer staying overnight in your home, or your pets can stay with an approved carer in their home. For more info see www.petsitaus.com.au
  15. I agree with the other 2 comments. vets do combine vaccinations into one syringe so only have to give one injection. on the vaccination record they should have stuck on stickers from the vaccination bottles stating what they were given.
  16. You can do certificate IV in Vet Nursing through Applied Vocational Training in Perth. It can be done by correspondence and do your practical work in a vet clinic. it's very hard to study this way though and if she has no basic knowledge she may struggle. i recommend starting a more basic course to begin with. I got my foot in thr door by being a dog groomer. I worked as a groomer for 6 months before I move on to become a trainee vet nurse. It is a very difficult job though and its not for everyone. I am now working for another clinic in a lower level position - kennel hand/vet nurse assistant because nursing wasnt for me. This could be another way to get into nursing by asking if they need someone to clean kennels etc. it may only be a few hours a day but it's a start. I would recommend she do work experience in this field first to make sure its what she really wants. it's a lot of work to do only to decide its not for you.
  17. Try Pet Sitters Australia! We can offer in carers home or in your home. Check us out at www.petsitaus.com.au The owner is Kerry and she's very knowledgeable and has been involved in rescue for many years!
  18. Not sure if this is what you're after but i give my dog Vets All Natural Joint Formula. It contains shark cartilage powder, green lipped mussel, flax seed, vitamin C, dolomite, copper, sulphur, boron and ginger. I've had success with it with my 10 year old german shepherd. it was looking as though she would be needing cartrophen injections but since changing to this she's become almost like a puppy again.
  19. I havent heard of this product so cant give advice. however my 10 year old GSD is on Vets All Natural joint formula and have had great success - no more limping. Have tried sashas blend but didnt work for my girl.
  20. Awww. She looks so sweet. Gotta love a greyhound!
  21. You could try Pet Sitters Australia - we service sydney and adelaide. Check out the website at www.petsitaus.com.au We offer the in carers home option (your dog stays at an approved carers home) or the in your home option (where the carer will stay overnight). Seeing as you also have a cat, I would recommend the carer staying in your home overnight. That way both pets are happy in their own environment.
  22. She should have been given a long-acting pain relief injection during surgery. If you have any concerns you should call the vet. My baby girl wasn't very impressed with me for days after coming home, she just laid on her bed and rested. She got over it though!
  23. Oh wow. Congrats on reaching your 16th birthday Ricky. I hope my fur baby can reach this milestone!!!
  24. The Adelaide Animal Hospital on Magill Road have a DIY hydrobath
