  1. From what I am told Titre Testing costs around the same as Vacc and if your dog does not have antibodies, you then have to pay for the vacc on top.In our area I believe that people just would not pay for both. I would love some more info on the Tick Stop if you can get me any thanx.
  2. Basically if she needs teeth removed she already has a tooth ache,I had my 17 yr old dogs teeth cleaned and she was fine. I would suggest getting a full pre anaesethic blood test done before her op this will cost an extra $78 approx but with her age you want to know how her liver etc are functioning. get it done asap. she will be much happier.
  3. We use Isoflurane to gas down for every op,it is very safe and the pets wake up very quickly within 2-5 mins of being off the gas. With thiobarbital it takes a long time to wake up.
  4. Is she desexed? sounds to me like she may have demodex, take her to the vet to get a skin scrape for confirmation. HERE is a link.
  5. If the lump is really sore ask the vet to sedate her and do a fine needle aspirate, that will give you a better idea of what it will be,then IMO it should be removed under GA.I would also reccomend you getting her full bloods done.ie major pre anesthetic should cost an extra $75 approx but well worth it.
  6. Provided your dogs are vacc they should not get parvo. Runny noses normally mean some kind of respiratory or sinus infection which will need treated with antibiotics. I would keep her seperate from your dogs until she has been checked out by the vet.
  7. My guys get Hills science diet Active, they have fabulous coats and because it is concentrated not much come out the other end. I have tried them on eagle pack but found it did not suit them, coats became coarse and duller. Feed what your dog does best on, not what others believe it should be fed,it may not be best for your dog.
  8. Where I work we do not do C3 vacc ,we do C4 which is $74 or a C5 is $87......microchipping is $46 ETA thse prices include health check and advice and the consult fee. we also have a breeders discount which has to be approved by the vets beforehand.
  9. Maybe try hills science diet B/D, I know some here on DOL don't like hills but if it means the dog can live a longer happier last few months I think it is worth it. Canine b/d* For the Nutritional Management of Dogs with Behavioral Changes Associated with Brain Aging Is your older dog starting to act differently? Prescription Diet® b/d® Canine dog food is formulated to help fight age-related behavior changes in older dogs. An older dog's brain is more vulnerable to free radicals that are naturally produced by the body. The damage free radicals inflict on the brain is often the cause of age-related behavioral changes in older dogs. Prescription Diet® b/d® Canine is specifically formulated with an exclusive blend of antioxidants and other nutrients to help fight the signs of brain aging and age-related behavioral changes and even help improve the learning ability of older dogs. The nutritional formulation of Prescription Diet® b/d® may also be useful for pets with a variety of conditions. 10. Must be a koolie thing Matilda is the same, but I have found that if I don't "talk" to her while training and just use hand signals she calms down as she has to watch to find out whats happening, the more I talk to her or give her direct eye contact the higher she "bounces".
  11. Yes, it is safe but like I said she will have to have a GA so there are risks like any op ,Where I work we do dentals routinely ,sometimes 3 in a day but some vets don't so it depends where you go ,I am a vet nurse so I do the GA and all monitoring plus the charting and records. My koolie Matilda (2yrs old) had a dental last year to cap her tooth as the pulp was showing after she chipped her canine, all went extreamly well and I am very happy with the results.(she is the first dog in my sig) Both my cats have had dentals last year and they were 3yrs old,you are better off getting it done now to prevent the need of an GA later in life and extractions. After it is done they are so much happier, not in pain anymore and if you feed a diet like I suggested you will hopefully not need another dental for several years.
  12. ok here goes...... Your dog needs to be anaesthetised to carry out a proper dental examination, and to clean all teeth without distressing her. After anaesthetic induction, a thorough dental examination is carried out. This involves charting the teeth present and assessing their condition, including the degree of tartar, gingivitis (gum inflammation) and any pockets in the gums around the teeth. After the teeth are examined, a treatment protocol is designed. This usually begins with removing tartar above the gum line using a special dental burr. After the visible surface of the teeth is clean, tartar is scraped out of gum pockets by hand. The teeth are then polished using a dental polisher and specialised fine grade paste. The dental procedure ends here if dental disease is not severe, however, if extractions are necessary due to advanced periodontal disease, these would then be performed. When all the dental work is done, the dog is given an antibiotic injection, the anaesthetic gas is turned off, and your dog is allowed to wake up. ETA a Descale and polish sould cost around $270 and extractions extra(I sould add this is if a proper dental machine is used not just the tarter being scraped off by hand)
  13. It could even be a rotten tooth. With breeds like Shihtzu, maltese etc they tend to have bad teeth and being 2 it would not surprise me if she needed a dental already. My advice would be to get a dental now then feed her only dry food with bones and chicken necks and wings that way she will have nice breath and the lesser chance of needed teeth removed if left as is. soft food and small breeds = lots of dentals. There is also a product called BreathaLyser it comes in 500ml for around $ 26 you add a given amount to the drinking water and it stops the bacteria, however I would get the vet to rule out needing a dental first.
  14. Best thing you could do is get her a dental, then brush her teeth daily and give her chicken necks or wings to keep her teeth clean. Unless she has a dental to remove the tartar on the teeth her breath will keep smelling no matter what you feed her. Hills T/D are designed to keep teeth clean and healthy I have seen the results first hand when feeding only T/D. oops I uploaded them in the wrong order. the second pic shows the tartar to start with........the other pic is taken 6mths after a dental and being fed only T/D.
  15. I personally would get the carpet STEAM cleaned. The larvae can be dealt with by having the carpets professionally steam-cleaned (the steam will kill every stage of flea except eggs) Alternatively, you can shampoo the carpet with insecticidal carpet shampoo or have a pest control professional apply an infrared heat treatment to the carpet, which kills all stages of flea. If you cannot get the infrared heat treatment done I would then bomb 3 weeks after them being cleaned. Make sure All pets are treated on the day of cleaning.
  16. Try seeing if a friend could feed him, after mum and dads dog was desexed he did the same thing with them so I went around after 2 days and I offered him food and he ate - not sure why he ate for me and not them though. If that does not work take him back to the vet for a check up - I have never seen a dog starve themselves for to long. It could also be that his throat is irritated from the tube so it may be slightly painful to eat,see if they will give him a tolfadine injection(long acting pain killer) and some rimadyl for at least 3 days (provided he has had blood tests to make sure he is healthy).
  17. Here is what I reccomend for getting rid of fleas - this works if you do everything listed. 1. Frontline every 2 weeks. - as any hair that fall off your dog still have the insecticide on them ,These hairs act as an indirect method of killing and sterilising adults, while stopping immature fleas from growing into egg laying adults. 2. put all bedding in full sunlight - sunlight will kill eggs etc if you wash bedding must be hot at least 60C and tumble dryed on the highest setting. 3.Treat your house inside and out use a product that has a residual effect. OUTSIDE - KO tablets are great you can get them HERE do not put on the dogs INSIDE - Bomb the house ALL rooms even if there is no carpet, then repeat again in around 3 weeks to get the life stages protected the first bombing. 4.block off all access to underneath the house. Only bath as necessary not every couple of days as the frontline will take another 24hrs to spread again leaving a window for reinfestation. ETA - all pets must be treated at the same time YES even the cat.
  18. He will be fine, just treat him like normal,he is probably worried because you are. He sounds as though he is still under the effects of the sedation, the best thing you could do for him is put him somewhere quiet eg laundry/crate and do not make a fuss.I would put him where he usually would sleep. I would not worry about the cone unless he is licking alot alsowhen we desex the scrotum is left but it will shrink with time.
  19. It is advised not to use the two together because of the ingredients ,however you can safely use permoxin with frontline.
  20. The frontline will be working the problem you have is environment,Vaccuming will do nothing to reduce fleas, washing blankets will only work if you use a hot wash at least 60C and tumble dry on max heat setting to kill all stages of the flea lifecycle. 1.Keep up the frontline every 2 weeks. - as any hair that fall off your dog still have the insecticide on them ,These hairs act as an indirect method of killing and sterilising adults, while stopping immature fleas from growing into egg laying adults. 2. put all bedding in full sunlight - sunlight will kill eggs etc 3.Treat your house inside and out use a product that has a residual effect. OUTSIDE - KO tablets are great you can get them HERE do not put on the dogs Bomb the house ALL rooms then repeat again in around 3 weeks to get the life stages protected the first bombing. 4.block off all access to underneath the house. Only bath as necessary not every couple of days as the frontline will take another 24hrs to spread again leaving a window for reinfestation. ETA - all pets must be treated at the same time.
  21. At 14weeks your puppy should be fed a premium quaility puppy food at least 2-3 times daily,If you want to only feed while training use the dry food,up until at least 6mths,then go to 1-2 meals a day. If you treat with pieces of chicken for example, still give her the dry food just less.
  22. Pull it off if possible , my boy did the same with his dew claw, get someone to help you to hold her and use a pair of pliers to get a good grip of it make sure you pull hard and fast as she will only let you do it once  ,otherwise take her to the vet for sedation and get them to do it.
  23. Is your boy desexed? If not desexing will help alot,I personally would not use a dog that has demodectic mange in a breeding program. eta - we have had great results with changing foods to hills z/d, Also bath him in pyohex shampoo leave in for 10 mins and wash off, then apply pyohex leave in conditioner.do this weekly.
  24. the dose rate for proban is 1 tab per 10kg every 2 days,if your dog weighed 27kg you should give 3 tabs. KO tabs are great for controling fleas outdoors,2 tabs make 5 L of spray you can get it HERE but do not put it on the dogs. the other products will be working its just the dogs are getting re-infested from somewhere eg under the house. If you continue to treat with frontline plus and proban all fleas will die but it could take up to 6 mths. the amount of fleas you see on the dog is only 5% of the actual population, the other 95% are pupae, lavae and eggs .
  25. I am sorry your dog got rope burn,BUT you cannot blame the tradies for what happened, they do not know your dogs history, you as a responsible dog owner should have had the dog in kennels or away from the yard while any work was being done without you being able to supervise the dog. They cannot be blamed for trying to keep your dog safe, hopefully a lesson has been learned. IMO you are lucky they even tied the dog up,it could have been much worse.
