  1. Which teeth has he had removed? If your dog has bad teeth he really should be on something like Hills science diet T/D which is especially designed to keep teeth clean. Your dog really needs to chew to keep the remaining teeth in good condition, Bones I would not recommend due to the possibility of him getting a slab fracture on his carnassials if he already has bad teeth. I would not be softening the food at all. My boy has just had his Carnassial tooth ( the big one used for chewing) taken out due to a slab fracture caused by eating bones ;) , he has no problems eating large biscuits however I do need to clean the bottom carnassial on that side now as it has nothing to grind up against so will become coverered in tartar very easily.
  2. Ok Im going to suggest a Koolie a medium sized dog.... unlike borders they have an "off " switch They are very owner orientated and love their family, they will bark if someone arrives but thats about it lol My koolies are happy with a walk or some training or even a good game of ball each day ..... and If I cannot walk them they do not go crazy. They are very easy to train and by the time Kovu was 14weeks he knew sit, stay, come, down, roll over and speak .... they make great obedience and agility dogs. My dogs will play ball all day if allowed too Koolies do malt but not too badly.... they also come in many coat colours So long as the dog is walked or played with koolies are happy in the yard while you work you will need to find a good Reg Breeder to get a very nice pup ;) KOOLIE INFO
  3. Ok well I have just gotten my prefix and was hoping someone may be bored enough to help make me a signature.... I have an idea but im totally useless when it comes to making them. ok so my prefix is " KILLARAH KOOLIES" ..... killarah means "Always There.... " My idea is to have top left corner KILLARAH KOOLIES bottom right hand corner Always There.... and my pix morphed together? work , rest and Play.... Not sure if this will work or not but hey I know there are some awesome photoshoppers on here. heres some pix, if they are not good enough or something is not right let me know and Ill try to find some others.Use whatever you think.... Work Rest Play Thanx will go take some more pix now of them playing incase the ones ive posted are not good enough....
  4. KOE - My guess would be Ridgy x Staffy ??
  5. you can order Hills food online JD link online ordering RD link online ordering You are much better off with one of these, the WW brought food is not a premium food and is full of fillers and will not help her loose weight, they are designed for dogs who put on weight but are at their ideal weight already - more a maitence food. Hills also have a money back guarentee Please listen to the info you have been given, and she will loose weight,Bones are a meal so that is all she should get nothing else that day. You now have to be firm and not let her eat what she wants, If you find it too hard maybe look at boarding her for a couple of week and give them instructions on how much RD or JD to give her then when you get her back she will eat it no problems Will try to find my Pix of my boy so you can see the difference the food makes. Link aka Fat Cat Before and After hills RD
  6. with photos I just use the "Direct Link" code in photobucket and paste it in your reply :p your other dog looks fine If you feed your girl the R/D like I have suggested you may find that she needs to stay on it forever - this is the case with my cat....If this is the case with your girl given she has been diganosed with HD I would get her to her ideal weight on the R/D then swap her over to J/D and keep her on the same amount forever.... once she is ideal weight get a tin of the wet J/D and cut it into little cubes and dry it in the oven and use these as treats but remember what treats you give her must come out of her daily food allowence. Just remember the R/D and J/D is a concentrated food so to speak and if fed too much she will get the runs lol sorta like your concentrate dish liquid she will bubble over
  7. Change her onto hills science diet R/D Canine ,only feed her this no other treats, and to be honest I would only be giving her 1/4 C per day.... My 10kg cat lost 5 kg being only fed the cat R/D and was on 1/4 cup twice daily. The other option is to give her Hills J/D great for her joints and if only fed 1/4 C a day the 4.5kg bag would last you ages. Both these foods DO work if fed as I have suggested they cost around $70 for a 4.5kg bag but well worth it if it means no op. My old boy(RIP) who had very bad arthritis was put onto J/D and I was able to cut his daily pain killers down to half of what it was before he loved the food and he looked great !! Time to get serious for her sake ..... J/D link R/D link ETA links
  8. Oh I have seen those , I think they are a great idea :D You can get them on ebay and there are a couple of different types ebay - flashing dog tag 1 ebay - flashing dog tag 2 ebay- flashing dog tag 3 ebay - flashing dog tag 4
  9. Thanx Clastic and spitzbaby I think she is pretty cute too. :D I have been waiting for a long time to get a solid black tri pup.
  10. I call a dog that is obviously spooked in unfamiliar places and by loud noises timid. One Koolie I know like this is papered and was extensively socialised by her owner. I don't doubt for a moment that all Koolies are not like that but timid dogs of this breed do exist as they do in many breeds. The breed is not uncommon in agility circles by the way. PF I do agree that some koolies can be timid, there are some lines that are that way inclined which is why you need to find a breeder that breeds the type of dog you are after, most breeders should be able to tell which pup in a litter would be suitable for a certain home based on pup and parents temperments. Koolies can be very misunderstood which is the point Im trying to get across, for example see a koolie in a pound and they go stir crazy or are extreamly timid/reserved ... take that dog out of that environment and you will see a totally different dog. Anyway to the OP I stand by my suggestion of a koolie.
  11. Just wondering if any of the trainers you are refering to actually own a koolie or koolie x...... Koolies are one person/family dogs and won't 'work' for just anyone.. they if being nagged will not 'work' and if the point is pushed too hard then yes they will SEEM timid.... I had a trainer ask to use one of my koolies to demonstrate something... I did say to her that she would not listen but said its fine she will, she handed her back to me saying why would you buy a stupid dog like that, funny thing was as soon as she gave her back I did the demonstraion for the trainer with her. I also disagree with a koolie being too much for a child to handle, once taught to walk nicely on a lead thats what they do... my 4yr old daughter walks one of my koolies everyday on the way to preschool by herself while I take the other 3 dogs.I obviously would not let her walk the dogs by herself,I assume the kids will have an adult with them when walking the dog. here is a quote to show you what I mean. "There are times when an uninitiated dog owner or a new enthusiast mistakes the Koolie as a shy, reserved or even a timid animal. The Koolies temperament needs to be understood in proper context when one seeks an optimal match of skills and demeanor. The Koolies are intelligent animals and most experienced handlers know well that they need guidance instead of merely being pushed and given praise instead of assigning blame. A steady and supportive approach will be productive, proving the Koolies adaptability in diverse situations when given time." QUOTE is from here.
  12. ooohhh a waiting thread Im waiting for a koolie pup atm she is currently 5 weeks old..... She is a black tri and her name is Royalla Vale Karma aka Karma. and with some of her litter mates
  13. It totally depends how much socialisation you give the pup and how its treated as to how nervous a dog will be..... Most koolies are level headed and fantastic with kids. Rescue koolies depending on what they have been exposed to will obviously have different temperments as will all dog breeds
  14. ok I may be biased but Im going to go with a Koolie Awesome do anything breed, great with kids and other animals, happy to do whatever the family is doing and as long as it is either walked daily or has some training they are very happy in a backyard. Also they come in a great range of coat lengths and colours Info on koolies
  15. Just wondering if anyone was bored enough to make me a new Signature Im so useless..... Would be greatly appreciated Thanx :D KOVU MARLON PIXIE If more pix are needed plz let me know
  16. I believe what you are talking about is a koolie they are an Australian working dog, they come in both solid and merle colouring and are great all round dogs, they are not as heavy set as a cattle dog. For more info on this awesome breed LOOK HERE . Would love to chat all day about them but Im at work and should be working ETA Pixie in my sig is a pure koolie and Kovu is a koolie x
  17. Dogs do NOT develop immunity to Paralysis ticks..... They are either immune or they are not....you were probably just lucky enough to get the tick off before the dog showed symptoms or was effected too badly.
  18. Seita - Do NOT use tick collars with proban if they have the same ingredients they can be toxic. You would be much better using proban and frontline or proban and permoixn together. Gretel - From the description your friend has given it sounds like the tick was a bush tick or a nymph paralyais tick(also called grass ticks) - they do not cause paralysis If it were a adult paralysis tick it would have been a grey colour... they cause the paralysis It is possible the tick came on the dog but in saying that ticks can be blown into your yard or be dropped in by native animals etc so no way of telling really.
