  1. at 12 weeks give them 2 meals a day.. but i have a big pup
  2. yea dont use green tennis balls because the glue and the sailiva makes a cemical reaction and can make them sick ( that was a test done in germany which showed this)
  3. yea i think that is right... but if she dosent get it not to fuss.. ill try every thing that is suggested.. and if that dosent work well you cant do much..
  4. im doing every thing i was told i just think geneticly she dosent have it but ill keep trying
  5. I don't know anything about IPO but I know a little bit about training in drive. Maybe skip training for a few days and give her no stimulation whatsoever, not toys, no training, no games, don't take her out of the yard, nothing - this would make her really bored, then do like a 2 minute session a few days after this and as soon as she hits her peak drive (as in super keen) then stop playing with her and leave. I know that when I was building drive with my pup she was not allowed out of the yard for several weeks, no toys, games, training, walks, interaction with other dogs - basically I had to get her really bored and really frustrated to start bringing out the drive. Also do you use just one prey item as a reward? I found that sticking to one toy works really well rather than continuously switching and changing toys. Like Arya says, contact Steve at k9force for some info - his training in drive program works really well! thats a really good idea i will have to do that one.
  6. i have been doing ipo for 6 months. i do the drive excercises about 5 times a day for 5 mins or when she get board i dont know wat you mean about how i do them. she plays with me willingy yes but she is doing it half heartly and she plays with other people yes.. and i dont give her a command for it.
  7. i have the ivan balabanov dvds that teaches tracking drive focous grip ect.. but she has drive for me i need her to transfer it to some thing elese and thank you for that advice i will try it. do you have any more? HELP K9 LOL Okay, when you say she has drive for you, do you mean you can get her fired up and she goes your arm etc. ? If you are saying this, you need to transfer that onto the article. I know, easy to say hard to do but in my time with my dog I have gone from balls to tugs to hoses. You can do this by removing the prey object altogether for a while. OBVIOUSLY you can't do that with yourself!!! Is that what you mean? My only other advice would be to make the hose, if you swap to hose, or small bite roll or whatever, very high value by only allowing play when you play with it. I don't quite understand what you mean. To 'make drive' you move the object very quickly side to side or away from the animal, never towards it. You then let the animal have it after they have performed something they know like 'sit'. Pretty simple but you gradually build on this. maybe you just haven't found the right prey item to build drive. Think outside the square a bit. You can use more than one for different situations I've found too. To build drive in the recall forget about e-collars LOL. The best way I've found is with a bite roll. So I use a bite roll specifically for the recall. I don't know if any of this is helping you at all!!! I think it might come down to the prey item with you. But crating... nope, I wouldn't do it. For IPO you still want a hugely strong bond with your dog. You create this by working/playing together. Crating works to a degree, I believe, but I also believe that if you need to work on bond strengthening, retreival/recall games are the way to go. They build drive, they build the bond. Use your prey item during them and the drive should build. Well, that's been my experience with my dog and others I've seen and suggested to. Where are you situated? K9 could help you A guy called Mark Murray in Vic. thank you for that i got a bit outa it.. i live in queensland... but if you know any one up here???
  8. yes i do belong to a ipo club and they say the crating method but its not working.. and i wanted more opions

  10. Use 1/2ml merolin & abit of the dogs blood mixed together in a syringe with a 25gauge x 5/8" needle a spray behind the patella from top to bottom a should keep it in place, rest for 10 days
  11. If a mite is to be killed i have heard that a special cortisiod can be injected under the skin @ 1ml or 2ml(size depends amount) & thats all check with a good vet.
  12. when i finish playing with her and she goes good. because she is a food pig should i give her a chicken neck or something? so she know she went good?
  13. i have the ivan balabanov dvds that teaches tracking drive focous grip ect.. but she has drive for me i need her to transfer it to some thing elese and thank you for that advice i will try it. do you have any more?
  14. not every puppy from two show champions or grand champions is a show prospect let alone a guarateed future champion. Same with drives... IMHO if I had a child that was great in soccer and hopeless in piano I wouldnt push the piano lessons, Id do a lot of soccer. im not doing shows... she is allright at piano as you put so im trying to bring it out and make her better at it and if she has no drive there is no point in doing obdience or tracking i need all 3 phases.... but do you have any methods i could use or websites i could go to...
  15. with food she will do any thing! and her breeding line are breed for it (high drive dogs)... she will play dont get me wrong though she dosent persist and she want to play with me more than any thing.. any suggestions?
  16. i am trying to increase prey dive (play drive).. i am useing the crateing method so that when she dosent play with me she goes in there sorta like a time out.. my plans are so that i have a social puppy which has lots of drive and will play tug go get the ball. and do retrevials and do jumps ect..
  17. i realy need help in getting my puppies drive up... i have done the crateing method but dosent seem to be working ... she plays a bit but loses interest after a while, i need as much help as any one can offer... i have used rags balls tugs kongs.... but she likes biting me instead of the toy, is there a way that i could put something on my arm to get the drive up then transfer it to the ball, tug ect? she is 5 months old and she should have drive... and i have been doing work with her. On monday i done 7 sessions and put here in the crate she got a little better... and should i still do obidience and tracking with her or just work on drive... can people send me links of good web site any thing will be a help. shes stop teething 1 week ago. can every one plz put as much done as possible i would be most greatfull.. thanking you in advanced Matt.
  18. 1. how do we realy get this sport out in the open... with the ANKC there to stop it? 2. how do we advertise this sport to become out in the open...... and understood?
  19. thats really great, sounds great that she is barking on command!!! also you shouldnt pull why she is teething just let her get it in her (but still make her run around for it) mouth and run her around so she still has the fun, drive etc, just if she gets hurt while pulling she will think when she gets older oh this might hurt. but you probly allready know that. isnt it heart breaking to only pay attention to her when she is working but if you wont a great dog you have to do the right things by her.. and how did you get her to bark on command my dog dosent bark yet just whimpers.. and we should interduce (<< if that how u spell it..) our dogs to each other so if we are trial together they just think ohh its just buffy/syla, and i brought syla in for the day coz her room was wet as, and the difference she didnt play that day or any thing so i had to put her in the shed for the day. it just shows you how hard it is to get a ipo dog sport dog.. but now shes got more prey drive then ever. and if you have a email addy send it via this sites inbox so i can tell you if training is cancelled.. matt cya tues hopefully theres training. p.s theres alot of typeo's way to lazy to edited.. hope your haveing fun with your new puppie
  20. this one chiro saved these people about $2000 for only $75 a few check ups and that sorta stuff yet the vet was charging $2000 and the chiro went to take his dog to a vet its always a good idea to go to one at least once a year. and there was a new vet in there and he went to the dog and was just cheacking it. and the vet hit a nerve and said oh no no this is a big problem i think we are going to do this and that and he said the leg was broken and the chiro walk out just laughing didnt tell the guy who he was and he check it and nothing was wrong with the dog and got another chiro his mate to check it for a second opion and he said nothing is wrong.... just some vets are shifty but as saying that there are GREAT ones out there.
  21. whats your breed? and your a ANKC handler? isnt it shunded upon?? you should just come alone and have a look.
