my dog eats grass when he needs to do a poo. Like if he feels like hes blocked, i have seen him chew a large sum of grass and poo it all out straight away as if to clean his stomach.

My cattle dog does this all the time. When he has a bone or yummy stuff to chew, he will lay down with his front paws on my lap with what ever hes chewing on and eat it on me. My family and fiance keeps telling me that im the only one in the world that lets the dog do this. And i thought i was the only one too lol. Thankgod there is others lol. He likes me to hold the bone and dosent mind if i take it off him. Sometimes he thinks hes a 30kg lap dog and will try to sit on me, if that happens im pretty much stuck there till the bone is finnished lol. I think its cute and i believe that he trusts me

Is 8 Degrees too cold for a cattle dog with short hair ? I gave my dog several blankets to sleep on in his kennel. But im not sure this is enough for him in temperatures that we are having.

Has anyone used the RUBBER MASSAGE BRUSH ? Wouldnt it feel like rubbing an elastic band on the hairs and ripping them out ? -
Which Grooming Brush Should I Use ?

Cool thanks for the link Reading it now -
My dog is a short hair cattle dog. I have used the brushes which have this metal bristles but my dog seems to hate this brush. But this brush seems good enough to take out the undercoat hairs. I have also used the fine teeth combs for dogs and it also takes out the undercoat ( he hates this also). Is there any other brushes that i can use ? I have also tried using the human hair comb but it doesn't do anything at all ;/ any help is appreciated. thanks .

The problem you have described is the same problem that i am having. At Nightime my dog will bark if another dog is barking. The neigbours completely ignore their dogs barking, but complain about my dogs barking (because he has a loud bark). But it doesn't occur to them that i hear their dogs barking every night for hours on end, and they are the high pitched yappy dogs that whine, bark day and night. I try to give a stern NO command or enough. Or take the dog inside like the laundry (as a quiet place, time out to let dog calm down) till the other dog/ dogs shuts up and quietly let the dog back out in the yard again. Most of the time, my dog is quiet after that for an hour or so. Until another dog goes bezerk and then i do it again. Its a temporary solution for me. I would like to hear other opinions too

What Kind Of Behaviour Is This?
andoria2007 replied to ish's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Lol my dog does the same thing in the first video. I have no idea why he likes to do it. I bought him one of hoop soft squeaky toy and he drags it around in the grass and dirt. -
My dog for some reason likes to put them in a hole he just dug up and cover it, when it rains it makes the pig ear soft in the ground. Then he digs it back up and eats it soggy and muddy *shrugs* . I thought he would have liked them crunchy

Well i have tried to call my dog back when he runs of to chase the birds, but he doesn't pay attention to anything but the birds. When they do fly off he comes back. Its not a problem except when hes barking at them when they sit there on the roof and dont move and he gets really worked up, barking up the trees and whines and barks. lol. I dont know how to train my dog in recalling as he chooses to come to me when he pleases, or when there is food available. I have tried putting him on the lead, i say come, and then give him a tug to make him come and when he walks to me and sits i give a treat. But soon as a bird comes along, he flies of with me on the lead to get to the bird.

My dog keeps chasing birds as soon as he sees me coming out the the backyard. But soon as i am inside the house and my dog dosent see me, he lets the birds sit in his food bowl and completely ignores them . Its like my dog thinks "oh shit the boss is here, i must look like im working, and (runs to chase the birds) " How the hell do i stop this ?

yeah i know it seems like he goes to sleep during the day now and builds up his energy for night time lol.

ok so far tonight when he hears a cat meow he becomes pshycotic and goes bezzerk and i cant control him at all. I feel hopeless in this situation.
-
I was thinking about crateing him. I read heaps of articles about the breed of cattle dog and his personality is the kind that needs alot of excersice. So when i think of crating him, im thinking that he will go even more nuts than he already is lol. How much does a crate cost and how big are they if i were to get one ? My dog is the height of 50 cm.

I cant bring him inside the house as i am at my parents house. I used to have my own place were i would bring him inside when he gets too noisy (that was the easy solution). The problem is that i dont know how to control his over activeness over nothing. My fiance wants to debark him with surgery, but i dont think this is the best solution. I am trying to teach my dog to bark on command, but i dont think teaching him to bark on command will fix the problem. I have tried shouting quiet, splashing water (gets him more agro) and distracting him but nothing is working, as he gets so worked up with what ever it is (or nothing) that he is barking at. I got my dog desexed for preventing more puppies and also for the fact that he likes to get at every female dog. (last time he escaped from the yard becasue all of the dogs were barking. I was told desexing would releive his frustration of wanting to mate. *shrugs*

My 13 month old male dog has become a problem barker at night times. He gets worked up a lot to the point that he goes crazy and is hard to control him. He has been desexed 1 week ago and i thought that he would calm down a little bit, since he has healed we has gone bezerk. Every time i go outside to see what he is barking at, majority of the time it is nothing that i can see or hear(i dont know what the hell is making him back all the time at night) . I am at a loss as what to do. His bark is an aggressive bark and sometimes he howls. I need help urgently.

Well i just got news from the vet and my dog is fine. And they said the operation went well In regards to the chain, i have arranged with my parents to keep my dog in the laundry for first night when he comes home. Atm chewy will be staying overnight at the vet so they can observe him. So all is good. I feel bad about desexing him (the snip). The vet also let me know about the implant type of desexing but it seems to be more costly in the long run. I dont want to bring my dog every six months into the vet to get anesthetic and implants for the rest of his life. So i think i did the right thing

Im a bit worried about trying to quiet him down as my dog likes to jump up and around chasing birds. And because i am at my parents place i will not allowed to bring him inside the house and he will have to be kept outside on the chain Is this ok for him ?
-
I will be taking my dog to get de-sexed tomorrow and was wondering if there are things that i should look out for after the operation. This is the first time i have had to look after a dog being desexed. Do i need extra towels to keep him warm, do i need to keep him still or will he be fine to run around etc. Will the operation hurt him afterwards. Thanks

We moved into a new home and we have a mandarin tree that my dog seems to have a facination with. He pulled of all the riped mandarins of the tree and now he seems to enjoy stealing the greens one too. I was wondering if the mandarin fruit and the skin of the mandarin is good for my dog to eat? He likes to stick his nose and sniff the leaves majority of the time in whn he is in the backyard. Is mandarin toxic to dogs ?
