  1. Well I am glad that I have been made aware of a possible Parvo outbreak in Vic . I rang my vet and found out there have been serval outbreaks in Sunbury. Mav's vaccination was due in September (08) but I didnt get it done because I thought it might have been one of the reasons he was very itchy last year (at 12 months) and I wasnt sure if it was the vaccine or spring pollens. I know now it is the pollens so off to the vet for Maverick!
  2. That was a beautiful tribute to Jae, you have such a way with words SM. You already know my thoughts are with you and the whites. Run free Jae, free of pain gorgeous boy! A million hugs to you SM!
  3. Oh, I am so sorry for you I had been following your story for a long time, yet I was shocked to see this. RIP Sophie and huge hugs to you CarNrott.
  4. Thanks for the advice, we have been useing TOT for about 8 months now and do a bit of NILIF, like he has to sit before I open the door to let him in, had to drop before being allowed to get out of the car. had to sit and stay when I throw his ball for fetch. What else is there I could do? In the GSD thread someone said he might be hearing noises outside that we can hear. We have new neighbours 2 door up who have a 2 cats with a bells on and they let them roam, it is possible he could be hearing their bells as they are running the street?
  5. Maturity? I'd be seeking some professional help with this one. Does your GSD get out and about a lot? How actively have you continued to socialise him since he was a puppy? Do you do some kind of regular training with him? Yes he comes just about everywhere with us (we caravan a lot, about wvery second to third weekend). He is walked everyday and comes for regular drives with us to whereever. He is still socialised with people and other dogs. I also do regular training with him all though not with an obedience club since easter. He is a very calm dog and mostly obedient.
  6. My 16 month old GSD has started growling when sitting on his mat inside for no reason. No one is near him at the time and I dont understand what is making him irratatedand it is happening a few times every night when he is inside. He has also started growling at people who approch our car and go to talk to OH at the window, like road workers. He also growls at when we are camping with our caravan and he can hear voices in the distance at night. The other day he wouldn't let a male friend in the front door, this is a man he has seen every 3 months or so since he was 12 weeks old. the Man is has his own dogs and got down to the dogs level at the door and offered the back of his hand but the way Maverick barked at him I thought he was going to take his hand off. This is a very non agressive dog who normally loves just about anyone. What could be happening here?
  7. Hi Charli, I just have to tell you again how impressed I am with your training of Zoe. I know how hard it is especially at this age, Mav is 16 months and would break his stays with very little encouragment. So give Zoe a big cuddle and yourself a huge pat on the back!
  8. Can anyone recommend anyone? I need help with my 16 month old GSD and his dog obession.
  9. Awww thats so sad, I had to choke back the tears whilst reading and trying to look at the photos through blurred eyes. I Really feel for you. Thay are watching over you. Hugs to you.
  10. now you mention that Flava, OH cant jog anymore because he gets the runs afterwards. Perhaps excersise stimulates the bowel. What did the vet say?
  11. Ah that is what I was quoted $200 to $250 when my vet rang Gribbles. I must organise to get it donw......after I explain it all to hubby
  12. Hi Charli, Maverick does get the runs from time to time but not always after excersie. I notice it most after he has eaten lamb flaps.
  13. Where did you get that done? I have been quoted $250 to do my boy. ETA, dont worry, I read on. I think I should ring around too.
  14. so which blood sample did gribbles test?
  15. They do not need to be done yearly unless you require it as paperwork. One titer test on an adult dog will show you if the dog is immune to X disease. Antibody levels are not constant, they increase when the body perceives there is a threat. $300 is a pretty excessive price though. so do you have to have separte tests done for parvo, hep and distemper?
  16. Thanks Bel. Mavericks ringworm is on his face near his eye so I dont want to wash it with anything. I do have Malaseb though as I was washing his paws with it 8 weeks ago when he had a yeast overgrowth. Today is day 7 of treatment and I think I can see a very small improvement.
  17. Yes thank you, you have helped. I have been washing his bedding every 2 days and he is not allowed on our carpet so he is only walking on the tiles to his mat (covered with a towel). It is not looking much different after 6 days of treatment, think I will ring the vet when he is in on Wednesday and see when he will no longer be contagious. He never told me not to take him anywhere or keep him a way from other animals. Just gave me antifungal cream and said to apply it twice a day for 2 weeks.
  18. I have already had him to the vet and have been treating it for 6 days. The vet didnt tell me anything about it being so contagious. We dont have other animals, only kids who dont touch Maverick anyway. Is it only the ringworm on his face that is contagious or is it his saliva and fur too He comes insaide alot but only sits on his mat. Should I leave him outside? I obviously have been washing my hands after treating his ringworm twice a day and I am trying not to pat him.
  19. I have been using Vets all Natural Health booster for about 2 months now and have seen a great improvement. Having said that though I havent tried Missing Link.
  20. has anyones dog had ringworm? if so how did you treat it and how long did it take to go away?
  21. I give my 39kg GSD 5 ml of flaxseed oil as that is all he can tolerate. I swap that with salmon/fish oil every time I empty the bottle.
  22. Hi, Would people mind posting what they paid for the test please as my vet said it is $300, this seems very expensive if it is to be done yearly.
  23. Sorry for your loss. RIP Ashka, to you and Dale.
  24. We take Maverick camping with us all the time and my kids are 4 and 5. He sleeps in his crate and has a 10m lead we tie him up with when we want him to have a bit more freedom but it is impractical to have him on a short lead. Everywhere we go dogs need to be on leads unless it is an off lead beach but Mavs recall is only 5%. Even if you weren't camping wouldnt your Harry be with you for 4 weeks anyway? Defiently take a crate, it is great time out for the dog and for you. We find that Mav is so active on holidays that he wears himself out fast and sleep well at night.
