Our New Addtion Is Making A Funny Noise
Chipper replied to Chipper's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
The first time she did it was ater she ate, the next time was while chasingher ball for the 100th time and the third time was yesterday when Miss nearly 6 was doing her training with her(she had her on a lead with her collar) and Lizzy ran off down the yard. The collar may have pulled tight across her throat before Miss 6 let her go. ETA: We will get her a harness I think. I'm guessing these are better for the smaller breeds??? -

It was Loraine, not me but I can do a good impression elongated soft palate sounds. I found opening the mouth or stroking the throat tends to ease it. I always try to describe the sound the best I can to people that have adopted the pugs I have fostered or to new puggy owners I run into because if you haven't heard it before it can be a shock. And usually they still get freaked out when the first hear it. Maybe I should enlist your help with an impression. ie phone this lady and she will do an impression of the goose honking so that you can know what it sounds like. Give me her number and I'll be the first to test it out -

Thanks Puggy Puggy. no she doesn't sound like she is 'full of snot'. And yep, she's pretty happy at the moment. I just did a search on reverse sneezing and this sounds like what it might be. (Hope so). She gets over it in a few seconds. Anyhow, I'll just keep an eye on her and se how she goes. -

Hehehe ...just read that thread Poodlefan!! Okay, no she wasn't vaccinated against KC - only C3. She sounds fine in the morning. Other than this noise that she has made occassionally everything else is good. I won't introduce her to any other dogs but if this is what it is DUke (my GSD) will probabably get too, yeh?? -
Helps to calm some dogs during times that they feel anxious. I use Rescue Remedy on my GSD who is storm phobic. We have just adopted a 2 yr old mix and I have been giving it to her of a night to help keep her calm. Works a treat on her. With Duke I need to respray at regular intervals during the storm. Doesn't calm him completely but takes the edge off a bit. I know some people use it on their dogs that become anxious when going to the Vet. Also good for people. Might look at the Emergency Essence for Duke next time though. EFS

According to the helpful Dolers she is most likely Papillon x shitzu or terrier Rescuers vet and pound had her down as Skye Terrier. She was with a rescuer/foster carer along with a few other dogs. One of them had kennel cough. She's not bringing any mucus up just making the noise. ETA : We want to walk her but not sure it's safe to do if it is KC. I've never seen or heard a dog with it so not sure what it should sound like?? -
Hi All On Saturday we picked Lizzy up from her Foster carere. She has settled in well but a few times she has made this awful noise from her throat. A dog she was fostered with had KC and was being treated for it and at first i thought it might be that but i wouldn't describe the noise as a cough but more like...okay this is gross sorry...but it's like she is trying to draw back phlegm or trying to bring up something. She hasn't brought anything up and i have really only heard it 3 or 4 times since she's been here(Saturday). She's eating okay and has lots of energy. Any thoughts on what this could be? Thanks.

Lend Me a Pup I will lend to you for awhile a German shepherd pup, God said, For you to love him while he lives and mourn him when he's dead. Maybe for twelve or fourteen years, or maybe two or three, But will you, 'til I call him back, take care of him for Me? He'll bring his charms to gladden you and should his stay be brief, you'll always have his memories as solace for your grief. I cannot promise he will stay, since all from earth return, But there are lessons taught below I want this pup to learn. I've looked the whole world over in search of teachers true And from the folk that crowd life's land I have chosen you. Now will you give him all your love, Nor think the labor vain, Nor hate Me when I come to take My puppy back again? I fancied that I heard them say "Dear Lord Thy will be done," For all the joys this pup will bring, the risk of grief we'll run. We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may, And for the happiness we've known forever grateful stay. But should You call him back much sooner than we've planned, We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand. If, by our love, we've managed Your wishes to achieve, In memory of him we loved, to help us while we grieve When our faithful bundle departs this world of strife, We'll have yet another German shepherd and love him all his life. -author unknown

Thanks Harminee. I really like the one you did of Lucy (6 May) the second one with the photos and the little saying Or, The one you did of Carli (4 May) I'm sure whatever you do it will be beautiful. Now, the photos are old photos that were scanned sometime ago. A couple were scanned together. Is it possible these could be separated into individual photos? I am not very literate when it comes to these things? Thanks again. Her details are : Codi (Chicha) 4.12.98 - 20.6.2006

There are no words to change The way your heart must feel Only time can be your friend In helping it to heal There is nothing I can say To take away your grief And it often feels that nothing Will ever bring relief To you he was your Asher To others maybe a friend But one thing, it was certain On his love you could depend And while he may not be here He understands your love His soul will watch upon you all And take care from above Cry your tears then dry them With thoughts, again they’ll start Remember all the loving times He’s forever in your heart Lisa

Bella I'm sure your heart is breaking. Cry until there's no more tears. You both fought the fight till the very end. RIP sweet Asher.

Have you thought about the Rescue Remedy Spray? My Health Food shop suggested that this would be better than putting it in his water as he is getting the dosage straight away. It's very easy to give. For my 30 kilo boy I give him 3 - 4 sprays at the back of the tongue. I can certainly see the difference it makes.

Burnt Urine Patches On Grass
Chipper replied to toofarnorth's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was using dog rocks but also found they didn't last he eight weeks. I use the Apple Cidar Vinegar however I don't use a tiny bit...I give the bowl of water a ggod dash..maybe 2 tablespoons. No more burnt spots...and you can tell within a couple of days when I have run out of vinegar!!! I but it from the Health Food store for around $5.00. It's best to use the organic stuff - the bottle will say it contains "the mother". Works well here. Duke drinks it without much bother. I migh just give the bi carb soda a try and se which works better. -
What Are Dolers Feeding Their Dogs
Chipper replied to Baileys mum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I was feeding Duke Royal Canin GSD until he started getting goopy eyes and itchies. I switched to Eaglepack Natural and haven't looked back. I am easily maintaining is weight now and his skin and coat are lovely. He also gets a variety of meaty bones, sardines, youghurt and eggs throughout the week.
