  1. Rocco1.......these pics are gorgeous......well done!!!!!! What camera n lens did use for these??
  2. Hi guys.....my hubby's off to Singapore on business tomorrow and may have time to grab a monopod for me.......I have the Nikon D80 with the hope of having a D300 some day and hope to use a heavy old 80-200 2:8 lens for shooting moving dog n galloping horses - maybe a teleconverter..........and maybe..maybe a hunky dorey 400 lens one day but no time soon.....Oh...I'm pretty short as well.....about 5'2 and shrinking!!!!! Does anyone know if prices are better over in Singapore n Malaysia at the moment or is everything majorly expensive everywhere in the world as we sink slowly into a recession......was going to ask OH about the 50mm 1.4 as well but probably he would balk at that hey!!!!! But I do have a birthday coming up in January!!!! Oh the wish list goes on and on and on!!!! Do I need a 'ballhead to go on top of the monopod as well ?? the questions are endless?????
  3. Agreed.......ROOOLLLLY good pics!!!!! Rugers pic is awesome.........poooor boy!!!!!!!
  4. I bought my 2nd hand Nikon D80 on eBay (bit of a scarey purchase but hadn't taken many pics) with a lens and lots of xtras for around $1600 a few weeks ago and I'm loving it!!!! Nikon or Canon should be fine.........both great brands!!!!! Just make sure you leave some money for a good lense in the not so distant future cos I'm sure..........like most others.........you'll want better glass sooner rather than later!!!! Think rugerfly is about to spend some dollars on a new camera ......think she's looking at the Nikon D90 or D300.
  5. I was using 1/500.......think thats right......only learnt how to find that out from rugerfly yesterday ......All my pics from Sunday at Werribee turned out green cos I had a wrong setting called tungsten selected by mistake somewhere ......not impressed at all. I guess I can't fix my pics very well if I didn't use RAW..........My hubby told me we have Photoshop CS3 at work so I'm loading that on the weekend.......THEN I'll be even more frustrated !!!!!! I still cant post pics properly.....now I'm going to flickr instead of photobucket (hope that's easier for posting pics on DOL)
  6. Oh buggar.......I left VR on at Werribee past 2 weekends with my Nikon D80 and AFS 18-200 for shooting polo (I have been blessed with a familial tremour)........I was leaning on a low permapine fencepost.......does that count???? I have a roooooly old Nikon lead weight push/pull lense labelled Nikon ED AF Nikkor 80-200mm 1:2.8 that I'm a bit scared to use cos I don't have a monopod yet.....had this from 20 odd years ago on my old film camera.....couple of camera buffs on a camera forum said DONT get rid of it!!!! So....should VR be on or off for leaning on a solid fencepost do you think Luke W?????
  7. Great pics of gorgeous dogs.........no bad pics in this house Is the farm where you live? What area are you in? LAST QUESTION Is China the gorgeous brindle from Mildura pound????

  9. Aubrey are you doing the intro course or the slr camera course with WEA? I've just bought a 2nd hand D80 and don't know anything........ very much the dumb bunny........
  10. You might want to look at some photography forums... http://www.dcresource.com/forums http://www.digitalslr.com.au/forum/viewforum.php?f=3 http://www.nikonians.org/forums/ Heaps to read and understand......Have fun
  11. Thats heaps funny Tokkie......I just bought the D80 2nd hand on ebay and I'm scared about using it too.....those lenses sound great for a newbie......in future you'll probably look at faster (lots more expensive) lenses....so instead of being 4.5 they might be 2.8..... I'm in Strathalbyn SA.......I wanted the D90 but couldn't afford a lense to go with it so bought the D80 with an 18-200 3.5 VR lens.....Haven't had time to read the manual.....been a bit of a mad house here this week and don't want to do anything wrong Wondering if I should do a photog course somewhere......
  12. Koby our aged boxer had 4 grand mal seizures in 10 days (about a month ago)........I started with fish oil (theres a thread here on DOL somewhere about being good for seizures)...He's having 4 1000mg capsules every night and so far hasn't had another seizure. I'm hoping the fish oil has helped but will never know for sure....Koby is going through dementia as well...... Our vet didn't want to fiddle with meds due to his age...........
  13. .................I'm a bad, bad girl........I've just missed my dental appointment cos I've got so wrapped up in reading all the photo threads...........n hubbys not happy cos the dentist is a friend of his and got me in early..........Grumpy day ahead......... :shakehead: Hope my D80 arrives 2day.......me starting to wonder if I've 'dun my dough' !!!!!! Posted early Th morning from Melbourne n still not here yet!!!!!!
  14. Bonniescot I'm really impressed that your vet suggested a RAW diet.......hardly ever does that happen.....they always suggest whatever dry kibble they sell at their clinic.....!!!!!! If you PM me your email address I can send through some information on skin issues from a holistic vet in Perth (very lengthy report)... Your doggies look gorgeous by the way!!!!
  15. Vickie, Ripley n others.......how did you learn all this 'stuff'???......Did you read heaps or do an actual course to work out the technicalities.......my D80 arrives today and I'm wondering if my 'blonde brain' is going to be able to handle it.......Trying to order 2 books from USA - Bryan Peterson and Scott Kelby are the authors..... How long have you been using digital SLRs.....???? Vickie your shots are awesome.......Do you shoot in RAW/jpeg or other?? Don't quite understand all the terminology yet......and then there's the post processing......what do you use for that......my daughter tells me we have CS3 here......some say that's really hard to learn.....we have Mac computers so want to get hold of something relatively easy to use with Mac...... My brains going 'nuts'!!!!!! Krislin good luck with your pics 2day......fantastic that you clever ones on DOL are happy to assist us 'not so clever' ones!!!!!! Thanks heaps!!!!!
  16. Tahna.....where are you in SA? I am waiting on my Nikon D80 being delivered...bought it 2nd hand on ebay yesterday.....I'm going to have to do a course cos everything is sounding SOOOO double dutch to me.....Have bookmarked your entry of Ben Fried - does he do a part 3......taking the pics sounds tricky but then you have to go to your computer and choose programs to make the piccys look 'awesome' like Vickies.......Ho hum so much to learn..... I live in between Macclesfield and Strathalbyn...... Krislin.....I want your Penny dog......she's so gorgeous
  17. We have a whippet (Jess) who's a woos with her food.....can't add anything except for sardines without her sniffing and walking away......annoying to say the least as whippets are skinny dogs anyhow......if she misses 2 days you can see ribs....... Try playing 'catch the kibble' with her.......we have a few 'food gluttons' here as well so it's easier for us......we sit a couple of others next to her and throw the kibble to them and Jess will then try to catch and scramble for the kibble as well...... Works for us.......and don't leave food out all day.......just allow her 20 minutes and then take it away.......try again tomorrow.......Good luck!!!!!
  18. Hi Melbomb .......check back 8 posts ago where I posted what our vet said......Kobys been fine and only had the 2 grand mals......so far so good.......will take him to the vet if there are any more.......He sleeps ALL day these days and then wakes in the evening where he barks and barks and gets himself in a real tizz until I feed him.....then he walks back and forth looking at me and looking where the food is kept for the next hour or so and then relaxes back to sleep.......He's one gorgeous special ole man!!!!!!
  19. Hi all.... smiling 2day as koby was fine last night......must have been that fish oil hey!!!!!! Kobys the most gorgeous, easy to look after dog in all the world......very, very precious boy who still thinks he's a pup at times taking balls n toys to his bed and guarding them from the other pooches......and we laugh at all his old age antics.....apart from the staring at the wall and barking at nothing.....n can't yell out to him from inside to be quiet cos he's almost totally deaf He's 100% loveable.....n don't want any suffering on his part!!!!!!
  20. Thanks everyone for your kind replys.......Jed have you heard of other boxers with seizures in the time you have had boxers? Our vet rang me back around midday and has ordered medication to have at the ready in case we need it........he said to let him know if there are any others and bring him in straight away......He said sometimes dogs have 2 or 3 seizures and then don't have any for a very long time and he doesn't like to overmedicate straight away......If dogs are having say 2 or more a month then he would go straight ahead with medication after a bloodtest....however due to Kobes age he said he would prefer to hold off and just watch him to see how he goes......He also said that it is better to let the dog fit by himself unless he's hurting himself......and then keep him cool and close to water..... Kobe has been fine today and bouncing around at about 4pm getting ready for his evening meal.......he did sleep the day away as expected but quite bright by late afternoon.....hard to believe he's had 2 seizures in such a short time at all.......I have started him on fish oil this evening as it can't harm him and may be of some help.......so now we play the waiting game and see how he goes with careful watching....... Thanks again and I'll keep in touch probably in the boxer forum.
  21. Thanks guys for quick replys have emailed Tony to shift this to another section without me having to retype the whole thing.....Caesars mum how old is your gorgeous boxer in the pic just posted......makes me a little sad at this time seeing all the young boxers so full of energy and so bright.......Sunny here today so Kobys outside lying in the sun enjoying the warmth.......last summer his dimentia side of his brain told him it was ok to lay outside in 40 degrees, panting and eyes bulging.......unless we were home to watch him he had to be in his run in the shed......Old age is cruel!!!!!
  22. Hi...... Check this thread everyday for all the cute boxer piccys.......and there have been more lately which is really good!!!!! Keep em coming!!!!! Does anyone know if the rumour is correct that boxers are more prone to seizures??? Koby our 13 year old brindle boy with dimentia (that's another story) had an aweful grand mal seizure about 2.30am......He sleeps outside in a winebarrel kennel directly outside our bedroom window with his doona coat on under a verandah......(we are in Strathalbyn SA). I awoke to the sound of thrashing and the kennel rocking .......raced outside and our poor boy was frothing at the mouth, legs in running motion, back completely rigid......OH didn't want me to put my hand in the kennel in case he bit me, but after about 45 seconds I did but couldn't console him at all.....completely glazed eyes.......took about 5 minutes before I could actually get him out of the kennel as his legs were'nt working properly....... Eventually got him inside (he has arthritis (using Vic C for this) and also was badly incontinent (until we took him off all dry kibble) and is on a total raw diet now...... Koby took a good 30-45 minutes to settle....couldn't lie down without breathing rapidly (not panting).....I put him in the lounge to keep him warm (according to other posts that was wrong....supposed to keep him cool as temperature rises dramatically). After a while he was at the back door wanting to go out (freezing outside)........he did a huge wee (found pooh in his kennel this morning) drank steadily off and on for about an hour and then lay down on his trampoline dog bed and slept soundly.......Seems to be fine this morning....... Yesterday morning I found he had poohed on his tranpoline dog bed and there was alot of froth dried up on his rug......didn't think of a seizure just thought he'd eaten grass and maybe regurgitated it overnight but he didn't move from his bed all day until feed time last night.........now realize he's probably had 2 seizures in 48 hours....... I've read this morning on DOL that fish oil helps seizures.....any ideas if this is for small seizures or a grand mal as he had... Will ring the vet shortly ......due to his age should I consider medications?..........his dimentia is quite bad......he knocks into things.....lays down looking at the wall of the house and barks......starts at around 4 or 5pm......am feeding him earlier now to try to stop the barking.......then about 8pm he walks down to his run and sits there and barks again (forgets that he's already been fed)..Lucky we live on medium acreage so no neighbours to worry......The only time he really seems 'normal' is when he wants his dinner......hardly wags his stubby tail any more......just not our old Koby boy at all...... Has slight incontinence but doesn't wake up in a pool of urine since we put him on a raw diet 8 months ago...... Any ideas on this at all.......We keep wondering when we go outside in the morning if he'll still be with us......and now seizures!!!!????? To add to this problem is the fact that we are moving in a few months to QLD and we've been worrying about Koby coping with the move.....heat esp in his old age..... and yep I'm teary and worrying heaps now.....Any ideas, help etc would be greatly appreciated.... Do you think this is in the correct thread???
  23. Thanks heaps guys for your responses........Too late for me to come to grips with it now but will try later tomorrow and see if I can work it all out.... PossumCorner we have been under a bit of financial pressure for the last 6 months or so and have not been able to take the plunge and purchase the new camera as yet......we live in SA at the moment and have made the decision to move to QLD where my son lives and the sun shines for a few more months than down here and polo is played all year round !!!! We have decided to go with the Nikon D300 as we take alot of horse (polo) and therefore very fast and dog pics (moving) as well......will then have to save up for some fast good glass but I have an old lens I can use to start with that's meant to be worth holding onto...... Looking forward to finishing the house we're living in here in country SA and selling and then moving to QLD......could take some time I know....... Now.....off for sum shuteye so my brain can get around putting pics on DOL......Thanks guys... Think it's the Mac part that's hard !!!!! (Well.....that's my excuse)
  24. Hi..... I'm struggling with the pic thing........ Can anyone give me a step by step remedial chart on how to get pics from iPhoto to DOL.... I even thought I posted this topic on here yesterday......and now I can't find it Had a friend help me with this last summer and still can't remember....it seems like real hard work..... I hate it when you see an absolute newbie post pics of their pooches in their very first post......frustrating for me..... Hope someone smart can help.....PLEASE.....
