littlepoppit About 18 months ago I bought a Nikon D80 with the 18-200 lens and couldn't have been happier - I actually bought it 2nd hand on eBay with lots of extras........I love it but am about to upgrade in the not to distant future hopefully to the Nikon D300 and then when finances are better the much faster Nikon 70-200 2:8 lens - Reason for this is that the D80 isn't quite as good in low light - but then that depends on your lenses cos some are slower or quicker than others (but that's a whole new topic really) - I take alot of action horse polo pics and when in the UK this year although it was summer there with overcast days and fast horses the D80 didn't cut it as well as I would have liked............Google the D80 with the 18-200 lens and see what prices they are selling at now but it's really been fantastic as an allrounder with an Auto setting that's easy to use - some of the higher priced cameras as already discussed here don't have an auto setting and for a newbie like yourself I think that is a must for a first time DSLR camera user if that's the way you end up going........ Good luck SOOOO exciting buying your first ROOOOOLY good camera

Oh.....and how long for the 'barking' to stop please with this treatment.......anyone know???

How old is your Misha? Our elderly boxer had grand mal seizures in the last 18 months of his life.......Misha doesn't sound like he had a grand mal but maybe just a normal seizure. They can be so frightening......some dogs only have 1 in their lives others have many....probably your vet will wait to see if he has another (if this is what has happened) before starting any medications........with normal seizures the dog gets over them really quickly and you would never know it had happened if you hadn't seen it......Just watch to see if he has any others or ring your vet if you're really concerned!!!!! Fish oils are supposed to help dogs with fits - just something you can do yourself for starters......You might be one of the lucky ones and never see Misha have a fit again

I've got the 50mm 1.8 and haven't used it yet ........me such a slack person but there is a thread on DOL with lots of yummy closeup shots taken with it..........and also have the 18-200 - it's an awesome little lens for the money - not big at all or heavy!!!! I've taken lots of polo shots (horses galloping) with this lens can email you some pics I've taken with it I'm just soooo blonde with loading them onto DOL........and it's really good until I can afford the very expensive 70-200VR AFS 2.8 - can't wait for our house to sell so I can splurge on that one - so good for horse/dog sports - I can't wait!!!!!! You could try and get the 18-200 secondhand - quite a few around - I bought mine on eBay with my D80 and love it and get the 50mm 1.8 as well!!!!! I'm good at spending other peoples money for them hey!!!!!!

I'm not sure on prices for the D60 at the moment.....I bought a 2nd hand D80 off ebay about 18 months ago and couldn't be happier although I would love to upgrade to the D300 cos I take alot of fast horsesport pics (polo etc)..Just check with the D60 and maybe others will post on this subject - I think the D60 (or is it the D40??) uses different lenses to most of the other models of Nikon - so maybe worth googling to find out......think that's why I went with the D80 at the time......I actually rang the seller on eBay before i bought and felt really comfortable about the sale etc....Quite a tense week for me until that camera arrived as i remember!!!!!!! U can also google Nikon D60 prices and see what they're going for at the moment as well as there are a few sites that tell you where the cheapest price is at the moment in Australia etc.. Good luck.....let us know how you go.....!!!!!

Well done Kirislin......birds are SOOOOO hard.........we went to Dubai (on our way to UK) this year and stayed at a gorgeous hotel out in the middle of the desert - as part of the hotels entertainment they had camels and Arabians for riding and also a few falcons with their handlers...... I tried soo hard to take pics of the flacons feeding......the lighting was perfect and the guy had a piece of chicken on a rope to entice the falcon back to him so I even could predict the flightpath........STILL couldn't get any good ones!! i will try my hardest to post some pics....u'd probably like them......I'm useless at posting pics and the photobucket thingo etc.....have only posted once or twice pics on DOL cos I'm very blonde at this sort of thing!!!!!!

E Collars South Australia- Legal?
polomum replied to Cosmolo's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I find this REALLY interesting........my son is away working in Argentina at the moment but before he left he came to SA to say goodbye to Mummy and Daddy (cos we were missing him and he lives in QLD when he's in Aus). We had a couple of dogs doing runners after rabbits etc when out in the paddock and then only coming back 15 mins later when they felt like it so we asked him to bring his 2 e-collars down for us.........he packed them into his carryon luggage with Virgin in front of the Virgin booking staff and walked straight onto the plane to come down to SA. When he arrived he said he thought about giving the big fat man next to him an electric shock to move over We were all pretty sure he wouldn't be able to bring them over in carry on luggage as they are illegal here!!!!!! -
Gorgeous pics!!!!!! Great job!!!!!! Always worry when I see horses out in paddocks with their head collars on..........must be hard to catch...........but SO easy to get hooked on anything in the paddock and hung up
-
Gorgeous pics......worth getting up early for me thinks!!!!!!! I lurrrrvs the Mischiermaka Amstaffs too - beautiful dogs - glad to know their temperaments are as good as their looks hey!!!!!!

Wanting To Buy 300 Or 400mm Lens Are They Worth It?
polomum replied to Benji&Cuddles's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Just googled Tokina 80-400 as well......might suit you as well......haven't looked up prices etc Don't know if it's fast enough for polo but maybe motor sports would be ok........ Try this forum for Canon it talks about this lens above.......http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=206338 -
Wanting To Buy 300 Or 400mm Lens Are They Worth It?
polomum replied to Benji&Cuddles's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Pics with this lens on your site kja are FANTASTIC..........just wondering how this lens would work for polo pics (needs to be REALLY fast) Hoping when we sell our house to buy the 70-200 AFS 2.8 lens Nikon (my dream lens) but wondering if this lens would work ok.....have to do some googling to see if other 'lesser' photographers get good pics with action as well.......!!!!!!!! I guess sunny days would be a must for fast action pics with this lens????? Sorry to jump in on your thread Benji&Cuddles!!!!! -
Hmmmmmmmm...........me thinks you've stolen SNOT from disorder in QLD............U VERY naughty!!!!!!!!!! Gorgeous pics............priceless expressions on them doggies hey!!!!!!

If the pup was still with it's mum she would probably growl loudly at her and maybe even snap to teach it a lesson....... I'd be a LOT stearner with her and say NO really LOUD and push her away very quickly.........Puppy classes are a must for your pooch as well......some children need stronger discipline than others as do dogs!!!!!

jabbawok our amstaff has 'pulled a hamstring' supposedly and has spent 2 weeks in total confinement and on painkillers/antiinflams........our vet said if no improvement in 4 weeks to bring back for an xray to check the cruichet (sp) ligament. Bronson has been locked in a pen 3 metres by 1 metre for the 2 weeks and has last pain killer 2night - leg seems much better - I take him out of his pen at a slow walk for a wee and bring him inside with us where he is tied up to a post so he can spend time with us as well......he's not impressed but coping!!!! Bronson NEVER walks - always runs, and heavily at that so I've taken some weight off him as well!!!!! Can you take himhome with you and lock him in a bathroom or laundry at all?? This must be a really hard situation for you and the dog!!!!! I'd be stressing as well!!! I don't think immobilization is good for the leg - our vet said they still need to move a little so the muscles don't seize (or something like that). Any ideas from other posters on this thread a 'ball park figure' of how much for a crucihet operation?? I think there are 3 ways of doing this op - (just from reading other threads) on this topic..... Ta!!!!

Hi.....and thanks for all your reassuring posts etc.... Jess is home now and looks tired but happy curled up on the lounge....Ashleigh our vet was waiting for her to eat until he let her come home but told him he could be waiting 4 days for that in a new place so he said take her home and ring him around 9pm tonight to tell him how she is.......he's the 'wondervet' in our eyes!! Was on a drip all day and he can't seem to work out why she reacted so badly to whatever it was.........had 3 wees during the day when they took her outside and the nurses said she could come back anytime . Still doesn't answer what was wrong with her last night.......soooooooo stressfull for us I can tell you and hope it NEVER happens again!!!!! Anyhow....off to give her some cooked chicken breast and see how she copes with that!!!!!!

Have rung in this morning - vet had dropped in and checked Jess at 5am and wrote report - more settled - no vomitting, very slight temperature, still on drip.......Vet nurse I spoke to this morning said she's wrapped up in a rug with the heater on and sitting up.......The vet we personally use for all our animals is on today so I feel more relaxed with him being there....will call back about 9.30am and see what he says - we have to go to the city today so will call in and pay a visit as well - hope she doesn't stress seeing me and then we leave again ...........she doesn't love everyone she sees - just picks the 'special' people in this world and then snuggles up with them on the lounge - others she totally ignores........ We live on 150 acres and our dogs (6 in total) do have access to the whole property - but only at certain times of the day as we have good dog yards as well. There is a chance Jess picked something up in the paddocks but she's a major fussy, picky eater and the least likely of all our dogs to pick something up!!!!

Hi all.... Our family has been away for a few days with a friend coming over daily to feed and run the furries.....Jess my 3yo whippet bitch often is majorly off her food when we go away......came home yesterday - she was over the top as normally she is if she hasn't seen us for while.....absolutely fine racing around with our other dogs......fed her raw chicken mince as usual and played outside with other dogs and then let her in by the fire where she lay while we were having our dinner.....let her outside again a little later - walked into our bedroom and found she vomitted all her dinner in one heap - no smell as she'd only just eaten it.......went outside to check where she was - found her in a kennel shaking uncontrollably and drooling heaps - didn't want to come out - finally came out but staggering........back in by the fire - watched her for 3 minutes (couldn't stand) rang the vet about 9.45pm......vommitted clear liquid again just as we were wrapping her up in blankets for the car ride..........Vet very unsure what's wrong - pink gums, no temperature, tender abdomen, still staggering, drooling......put her on drip and gave pain relief which would make her sleepy and said to check in with them in the morning....... Nobody stays at the vets overnight - I HATE that she's on her own but guess she'll sleep.........I've hardly slept all night - she sleeps on our bed everynight and spends most of the day with us - never on her own - her eyes looked SO stressed (popping out her head) Vet said if no better this morning she'd do bloods and x-ray.......so now the wait!!!!

Dog Training Club Near Strathalbyn, Sa
polomum replied to Tay.'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Yep Tuesday evenings at the Strath polo grounds. Used to go many years ago and have heard it still continues. Your friend just needs to ring the Strathalbyn vets - 85362722 and someone there will be able to help her... Mount Barker train on the high school oval every Saturday morning - I'd suggest to just turn up and go from there - starts I think around 9am...... Good luck...... Hey what breed of dog has your friend got??? -
Hi.......I bought my Nikon D80 and quite extensive kit on eBay (was an anxious mess until it arrived and had tested it)...Make sure the camera has a low shutter count and I actually phoned the guy before I bought it to find out a bit more about the camera - I could tell on the phone he was 'ridgy didge' honest!!!!! Oh..........I luvs the camera by the way!!!!! Good luck!
