  1. Your pup is so cute, love the hat! Thanks for the advice - Now I know! I don't have any pictures that I can post - they're all on my phone and I lost the software to download them.... But he's inbetween a mini and full (Dad's a mini and Mum's a full grown).... He's black and tan (with little tan feet, eyebrows, snout and chest), smooth haired with a short snout. He's the cutest dog I've ever seen!
  2. Thank you - is that okay to carry him? I don't want him to get used to that kind of behaviour! Do you recommend a doggy bag? I just get paranoid that he might squiggle out of my arms and crash onto the pavement and I would feel terrible if that ever happened!
  3. Through the "training" that I've been able to give him, he knows to walk out the front door and gate onto the footpath (with quite a bit of hesitation!) but he's getting better! But after that, he does the "donkey" dog!
  4. Oh cool - I didn't realise (this is my first puppy) that half an hour was too much!!! Silly me. Yeah, I've tried to walk him up and down the backyard..... What are your suggestions for the actual training part? Also, the dog training school is about a 15 minute walk and I can't drive so what are your suggestions for getting him up there if he won't walk on the lead? Thanks so much for your valuable feedback.
  5. Hello! My little 3 1/2 month Dachshund is so cute! I have now enrolled him in puppy school, which is due to start soon. But in the meantime, I am faced with another dilema! I need to walk him to Puppy School, however, he won't walk on his lead. He lies down on the ground and won't budge - he hates the outdoors and refuses to go anywhere. I get down to his level and offer him small treats as an incentive, but it doesn't do anything! I have also made sure that he is in a routine of: when I come home, it's walk time, we "walk" for 1/2 an hour and then when we get home, I make my dinner and then it's his dinner time. I have been trying to keep this routine now for about 2 weeks, but it's so difficult doing it when he won't walk. I've even isolated it to only our street, which is very quiet and not many other dogs walk there or cars..... Does anyone have any tips to help me train my Buster?? Thanks!
  6. Hi all, I have recently become a new puppy owner (have never owned one before). My live-in boyfriend bought me a little black and tan Dachshund, called Buster, who is 3 months old and has been living with us now for 2 weeks. He is the most gorgeous little puppy and pretty well behaved. He goes to the bathroom outside 9 times out of 10 and is fairly obedient when we ask him to come, sit, etc.... Over the course of the 2 weeks, we have noticed that he is very, very shy when it comes to other dogs and gets very scared when we try to socialise him with other small dogs and puppies of our friends. Last night, one of our friends bought round his 17 month old dog and he got so scared that he wet himself The visting dog was by no means threatning and was only sniffing him! I am trying to find a good puppy school, where he can learn to be around other puppies and learn (as well as myself!) some basic teachings. I live in the Alexandria/Erskineville area. My boyfriend works most nights (except Tuesday and Friday) and all day Saturday day and would really like him to be present. I also can't drive so I need to be able to walk there with Buster, without him getting too tired to participate in the school. If anyone can suggest any good puppy schools, I would be very appreciativ (and any other helpful hints!). Thanks! Lucy
