It's cancelled sorry. We're not sure if we will be able to re-book him. I will let everyone know as soon as it's sorted out tho. -
No we're up in Brissy. The idea of the jumping around and acting like an idiot is basically for the distraction, as well as helping the training in drive. The more you jump around the more excited your dog is. But if you can get your dog to be obedient while in drive, and continue to perform the task while you're jumping in front of you, the better your dog will be able to handle any distraction situation. Especially on trial day.

Our club use the Balabanov training techniques. We're all very happy.

We get it from a heath food shop, a human one. Not sure why it went off the market.

We feed twice daily as well, but we do the RMB in the morning, only because it gives her something to do while I'm on the school run. Generally, I don't have set "fasting" days, but I don't give Buffy anything to eat on training days. So she'll only get treats that night. Not exactly proper fasting, but it keeps her motivated and she's still in great shape.

Absolutely!! I'm so disappointed but relieved as well. Hopefully we can reschedule quickly before July, that's when the National IPO Trial is on in Sydney. But if not, that'll be alright. I'll let you all know as soon as our club has it worked out Thanks so much everyone for your interest!! -

I am sorry to announce that Ivan will not be coming in March. The kennel helper left, and they have too many litters for someone new to come in and help. We are hoping to reschedule with him later this year. -

Ok I have asked our club, and they say that he is not doing any other seminar/training type things while he's in Brisbane. I mean, he could just not be telling us, but that's what I found out. Also, the day prices will be coming. The lady who handles that stuff is away on a cruise until early next week, so I will have prices then. -

sorry everyone no date change -
Thanks for the info Erny. I love reading your posts I spoke to the trainers at our club on Friday night, and they don't think it's seperation anxiety, they think that Buffy is just sensitive and in stressful situations she just "shuts down" almost. We've had problems with her being outside when we go out, but if we put her in her crate and go out, she's absolutely fine. Not a peep out of her. I took her swimming again today, and she did better, but it was still obvious that she wasn't going to go anywhere without me walking right next to her. It concerns me that she won't do anything without me being there, but at the same time, almost 95% of our lifestyle she is absolutely fine with. Hopefully she will get more used to being with other people.

I wonder if our club could change the weekend. I know that his flights haven't been paid for yet. We're having lots of trouble getting people to come because of the number of trials/shows on that weekend. I'll have a chat to them. -
I'm hoping to get Buffy's BH passed in July this year. And then get her IPO 1 at the end of the year.

Apart from the problems we have at home when we go out (which have been solved by crating) Buffy has never had a problem going with anyone else. She is regularly trained by people at our club, in order to show techniques and she's quite happy to do this. Maybe it's the added stress of the swimming that is sending her a bit over the edge.

Thanks everyone for the responses. I have yet to talk about this with the trainers at my club, which I will be doing on Friday night. I can't see how I am "mothering" Buffy while I am at home, the only thing I do to calm her is put her in her crate when I go out. I don't usually spend time with her during the day, because it's too hot to start with, and I don't want to get her into a routine of doing stuff in the middle of the day, and then when I go back to work she'll wonder why it's all stopped. We haven't been able to get her to "deal" with being outside on her own when no-one is home because of our neighbours. They want a silent neighbourhood, and have the right to have Buffy removed. The only way to keep her quiet when we go out, is to put her inside. I will contact a behaviouralist and see what they say. Ruthless great info thanks for that.

Buffy is now 10 months old, and I thought that her whingyness was just because she was a dobermann. I have been taking her to a dog swimming pool for fitness once a week for 2 weeks now, with an extra session last night, and the lady who runs the pool and swims the dogs, is quite concerned as Buffy just shuts down if I walk away from her. The only way she swims is if I run next to the pool with her. The lady, who has experience in dog behaviour and owns a dog security company, is concerned about Buffy's dependance on me, and has suggested that I put Buffy in a kennel for a week to try and break the cycle. Could this possibly be seperation anxiety? When we go out, we have to crate Buffy inside as she just barks constantly if left outside, and our neighbours have threatened to have her removed. She's alright in her crate, she must feel safe in there. But even if I walk from the front door and go into the garage, Buffy starts to whinge, as if I'm leaving. I don't know what to do. I don't particularly want to leave my dog in a kennel, but if this is only going to get worse, maybe it's worth a try. Any advice, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Our club, the Brisbane Sporting Dog Club, is hosting Ivan Balabanov in March. A lot of flyers have already gone out to different dog clubs, but I'd just like to advertise this as a great opportunity for everyone. It's a three day workshop, you can book in to come with your dog for hands on learning, or you can be a spectator. PM if you would like further details and I can email you the flyer. Thanks

Anyone Ever Bathed A Cat In A Hydrobath?
JeffnCel replied to 4 Paws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We had Rusty hydrobathed once. The person who did it had a special "cat cage" thing that he fitted into nicely. I can't say it was a pleasant experience, but the man who did it said since he advertised that he was hydrobathing cats, he was flat out. I haven't had it done since, Rusty tollerates being bathed at home. Not that he really needs to be bathed being a spoilt indoor cat. I don't think it was cruel, it would have been worse if the cat was able to move and cause damage really. -
Our girl has only just started going for wees when we're at training, and it's only if I take her out the back (what a lady). It's taken about 6 months, but we haven't had any issues with this.
