  1. If you're going to dump it anyway I would just give it to him and see how he goes. If he doesn't chew it up, you've saved $$ on a dog bed.
  2. I don't get giant bags. you would if you had a great dane LOL These are the times when I'm glad I own a small dog
  3. I feel a bit faint just looking at that. Unbelievable!
  4. I found Advantix better than Frontline when we lived in a high paralysis tick area, but I think it pays to swap between the two. Nothing beats a twice-daily search though, particularly with a shaggy or scruffy dog. Don't rely 100% on chemical prevention. Once you get into a routine it's easy - took me a while to break the habit after we moved to WA.
  5. Lie down and play dead. (Husband, not dog) Dog will come straight over.
  6. On the same news site as the story about the dog shot with a bow and arrow - Holly the pet cat was revived after a house fire: Link There is also video footage with the story. for the guys who saved her life!
  7. RIP dear little Hamish - that poor woman, what a terrible thing to happen. Glad they have found the dogs responsible.
  8. As well as general exposure to the elements and the heat from a canopy, the tray of the ute also gets bloody hot when it's sitting in the sun, as it would be in a shopping centre or beach carpark. So there's the radiant heat to deal with as well.
  9. I think it's overkill as well - nobody knows your dogs as well as you do, and if you haven't noticed anything wrong I think it's pretty unlikely a vet will pick anything up either.
  10. Thinking of you julzjc, and Bonnie and Indy - I hope you are all OK
  11. There are some good ute tethers on the market, but it seems few will spend any $ on making sure their dog is safe. I have a ute but there is no way my dog will ever ride in the back. It's no place for a dog anyway. And It's not just SWF's that go unrestrained in cars, lots of big dogs can be seen bouncing around in the back seats of cars as well.
  12. Thanks for posting, that was great!
  13. The scumbag didn't even attend court - what a coward. He got a $4000 fine and a lifetime ban from owning a domestic animal. I think some jail time as well would have been more than appropriate. Link
  14. I would say that there is a lot of information out there about dogs and breeds if you are prepared to do your research. But people either don't look for it in the first place - they see a cute puppy in the pet shop or on Gumtree and have to have it, or if they do find information (say on the web), aren't really able to distinguish reliable information from rubbish. Also, I chatted to a few breeders at the Royal Show here in Perth last week and was given several business cards, but not one of them suggested that I go away and research the breed and see if it was right for me.
  15. Was your deposit returned? How did the "purchaser" get the foster carer's address? Did the foster carers report the threats to police?
  16. Given the low conviction rate for animal cruelty charges, it would be a waste of time. Just looks good on paper. And what about all the animals being sold online and in the newspapers?
  17. My dog was aggressively "warned off" by another dog because he got within 2 metres of that dog's ball (which it wasn't actively chasing at the time). At no time did my dog approach the other dog (he didn't want to say "hi"!), nor did he show any interest in the ball. I think it's irresponsible to take a dog to an off-leash park where there are other dogs when you know there could be issues - it's an imperfect world, things could go pear-shaped very quickly.
  18. When my Jessie suddenly passed last year I was given the advice to use the NILIF program with our other dog (do a search for it). The pack dynamics were different in our case (Harry was alpha dog) and in the end I didn't think it was necessary, but maybe it would be helpful for Mia. Hopefully somebody with experience in this will know. I hope you are feeling a little better after the initial shock of Riley's passing; I really feel for you
  19. I will never understand how people can be so cruel to animals who are full of trust, love and loyalty.
  20. Good to see that the pups had been microchipped already.
  21. She is so cute, love the pictures!
  22. Maybe a small freestanding cat enclosure - you can buy them ready-made or DIY something small to suit your yard (much cheaper too), this supplier has everything you need
  23. When we lived in FNQ I used the fridge/freezer method as well. If you regularly patrol your yard for toads you'll find less and less - best way to get a lot at once is to do it when it's raining as there are more about, or use a light source to attract them. It was a bit scary having a couple of terriers, including one who loved to hunt but the worst thing was the stink of a dog who's rolled in cane toad poo
