I purchased my boy nearly 8 years ago from Pets Paradise, on Christmas Eve no less *hangs head in shame*. Three years later we went into another pet shop looking for a cat flap, and left with a puppy who I thought would be an ideal companion for our boy. She was, but sadly went to the bridge last year. After finding DOL a few years ago my eyes were opened. No more BYB dogs. Can't believe how naive I was.

Hot Weather And Keeping Dogs Outside
Hairy Maclary replied to RoxyNHemi's topic in General Dog Discussion
My little scruffer really struggles in the heat and prefers the great indoors anyway - it's inside with aircon here, in his fav spot under my desk :D -
RSG, I'm curious as to what conditions would cause this? I had a shih-tzu/JRT cross who barely wore down her nails even though she was very active and was walked daily.

The illustrations are just brilliant! Moved from QLD to WA last year, so glad we flew - and that was stressful enough!

We are building a pool at the moment and will be getting a "Skamper Ramp" - not sure if it helps with the getting in but should with getting out of the pool.

Favorite Photos Of Your Dog...

I love this last one, looks like a bunch of overgrown otters at the zoo! -
Oh paleeez ! Innocent (?) bystander??? You don't know that and neither do I. For all we know the dog approached him and he kicked it in the head causing it to retaliate.?? Which is probably what did happen ...but did anyone ask him or question him over it?? Dogs do not wander the streets looking for "innocent bystanders" to attack. They also don't bite for NO reason. There is always a reason !!! What annoys me are folk like yourself who never think,"what happened that caused the dog to bite in the first place?' It's always the 'poor innocent bystander' mentality instead! My mother and I were set upon by two GSD's when I was seven and were both severely bitten. At no point did we do anything to provoke the attack - we just had the misfortune to be walking past the yard they broke out of. Whatever the reason was, it had nothing to do with us. I find your comments ignorant and offensive.

What Floor Coverings Do You Have?
Hairy Maclary replied to sallyandtex's topic in General Dog Discussion
Old timber floorboards and the odd bit of carpet. Our last house was fully tiled - very hard underfoot, used to make my feet and legs ache. -
I have a hydrabath. I still probably only wash mine once a month. Mine could be done more often, not because of smells but because they are...pink. I have red soil, so have black and pink border collies! I get soooo bored of the comments. A heap of people think it is their natural colour. The ultra-rare black-and-pink border collies, could be a Christmas winner for Deshonko Kennels!

Poor Danny. I hope he is feeling better soon :p

Now that dogs can be claimed at tax time as a legitimate expense - e.g. guarding tools in the tradies ute - this kind of problem could escalate. My side fence is sufficient to keep my little scruffer in, but it would be no problem for a larger dog (this will be rectified soon though).

Kibble That Cleans Teeth Etc

I use raw meaty bones for my dog, but I will say that the Royal Canin Oral Sensitive for cats has worked amazingly well for our cat. :D -
One of the ladies at the dog park makes her own liver treats - judging by the dogs reactions, this is a VERY high value treat!
-
That is exactly what people don't realise. The throw the frisbee or ball or whatever for the dog who spins and leaps and twirls and of course is having a great time, but the result can be very unfortunate in the long run. A large dog at the park we go to broke a leg earlier this year after landing badly from height (ball-throwing) he is apparently recovering but it was absolutely dreadful to see. That video made me , definitely needs a "don't try this at home kids" warning!

What an emotional roller-coaster ride you've been on the last 24 hours, fingers crossed that it can all be resolved without an op! Will be thinking of you and Chase, hope things continue to improve over the weekend
-
Wonderful to see that Chase is making progress!! We have been through anaphylaxis (vaccine reaction), I know how bloody terrifying it can be.

Spray your yard with Permoxin if you want to do it yourself, or get a professional pest control company to spray. And tell your clients to check their dogs every single day for ticks.

Changes to the Dog Act in WA proposed - there's not much detail on what the changes might entail though: Article There is also this article about changes to the Dog Act to make nuisance dog complaints easier for rangers to manage. Link It says that the current provisions make it difficult for rangers because they have to: a) gather evidence from reliable witnesses b) establish proof of the dog being a nuisance to convince a court beyond reasonable doubt So it sounds like the WALGA is pushing for these provisions to be changed. Maybe I'm naive, but they sound fair to me and should protect dogs and their owners from malicious complaints. Just wondering what others think of this?

There Are Still Some Awesome Vets Around!
Hairy Maclary replied to noisymina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
After moving interstate we have finally found an awesome vet. He has a great rapport with animals, seems very knowledgeable, broadminded and open to discussion - he doesn't talk us like idiots (like our last vet). This one's a keeper -
I don't think I have a joyous public pooer. He usually takes himself off to the treed fringes of the park for a semi-private poo and looks at me with mournful cow-eyes if he needs to go before we get there. He's done the 3-legged pooing though, proved a useful skill for him to draw on after cruciate surgery
