Yeah, we can't actually race or train a dog under 12 months with the jumping or box turning aspects, but if you want to get a head start with your pup, start training some strong recall and to-the-hand ball retrieval work with a stationary ball placed away from you. That will give you a good footing for when the dog is old enough to start the jumping and turning training of flyball.

Looks fantastic but where is flyball??? I've put a call out on the Qld Flyball yahoo group to see if we can get something going... probably won't get any interest until at least after Canberra, though.

2008 Flyball Nationals

That'll teach me for watching the weather channel - they've done a backflip and now agree with BOM and saying it'll be much more mild - which sounds good to me! -
2008 Flyball Nationals
Qld_flyballer replied to wherezaball's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Awesome Pawsome have 1 team travelling down to Canberra for the Nationals. 2 of our dogs left yesterday for the long drive down, another 2 leave tomorrow night and are driving straight through, another 1 leaves tomorrow and the last dog is flying down first thing Saturday morning (couldn't be avoided)! We're staying at a caravan park in Queanbeyan - did try to get into Eaglehawk, but was told that under NO circumstances were they allowing any dogs onto the property anymore??? Now I find out that they are, just not in cabins (which would have suited us since our dogs are in their own caravans anyway!)... anways! I'm going to be doing my stewarding for my Judges Prac exam and also boxloading for AP. I heard it's predicted to be VERY hot - over 30 degrees both days! Jo -
I do flyball for lots of reasons - mostly cause "I" enjoy it! I enjoy it so much for the friendship of my teammates, the fun I have with my dog, meeting new people and being involved in something for myself - it's something only I do separate from my children (being a SAHM of 2, I need that!). I've really enjoyed being a member of Awesome Pawsome since joining them in June last year when we moved to Brisbane. I'm off to Canberra to boxload for the team this weekend at the Nationals - going to be a fun weekend! Would love to see you join us at AP, Laffi - we'll be back at training again next Friday night, once we're all back and recovered (?) from the Nationals this weekend. Jo

I've been with Awesome Pawsome since I moved to Brisbane nearly a year ago, and they are a GREAT bunch! We have some very knowledgable trainers who are dedicated to getting the best from your dog. We're a very sociable bunch whose number 1 aim is to have fun with our dogs and each other, and if we happen to win and race well in the process, that's a real bonus. We are competitive in the sense that we do like to compete, but certainly not in the sense that winning is the only aim. Would love to see you at Mt Gravatt on a Friday night, Seita! (Just not THIS Friday night, as we're all in Canberra at the Nationals, so there's no training!).

Purchasing Flyball Equipment

K-9 sports are based in Queensland. You can contact Steve via email on [email protected]. Most clubs get their boxes from either Steve or import them from the US. -
Homemade Flyball Training?
Qld_flyballer replied to laffi's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi Laffi, We live at Springfield Lakes and train/compete with the Awesome Pawsome Club who are at the Mt Gravatt Showgrounds. We have people travelling from Toowoomba, Redbank Plains and Jimboomba to our club, so we come from far and wide, and you'd be most welcome! Even if you couldn't come every week, even every 2nd, you'd certainly benefit from the training and being able to use the equipment, plus you'd have someone to compete at competitions with! Jo
