  1. That is very sad, sorry to hear your news. Re: Check up of your dog, have you made enquiries about an ultrasound? the new ones are very good at detecting heart problems.
  2. How can I resist It s a deal. Speaking of cars, we use to have a Rambler Hornet in the good old day BC ( before children ) and OH also had an Austin Healy Sprite. And the big thumping 351 V8 Falcon LOL. Now it s all more practical 4 wheel drive, mind you he does go and play with the boat.
  3. OH JJ you popular bugger, I m on my way, I m on mmy way see you in 20 at the airport Hobart is small. I ll be the one with the rose between my teeth.
  4. Nice to see these GOOD Victorian roads at least Tassie doesnt have a monopoly on goat tracks There is a road near a really pretty beach here it is so bad I often joke about putting stack hats on the dogs in the trailer, in the event they get brain damage, hmmmm may be it s too late By the way TLC just love those lovely shots of the dogs all of them, just great
  5. Another child scared for life, a mum crying in hospital as she receives HATE text messages. The story is tragic. We breed dogs for all types of purposes, to run fast to catch prey to dive in cold water and fetch ropes for the boats..... to protect to guide to love. Some people purpose breed for aggression, I am not saying BSL is right or wrong, I am saying some humans select dogs for their aggressiona dn breed them. Perhaps it s for pig hunting or dog fighting Problem is the dogs often end up in the wrong situation for which they were bred and they do what they do best.............. Politicians respond to public outrage, the community is calling for " Safety " so laws get tighter. But they get tighter for all of us. More and more NO DOGS sign appear restrictions on the number of dogs you may own blah blah.. dog ownership becomes more difficult. What I would like to see is some one seriously prosecuted if their dogs attack a human as in the case of this child, walking in a public place with every right to be there. In no way was that dog provoked. The owner should feel the full force of the law, ultimately these people are responsible for their dogs, their dogs training their dogs containment, and breeding.
  6. Good night Pandii. Sorry guys we are on ignore we ll just have to find out for ourselves about where the 1080 is laid. Suggest you contact the WCC the Moyne Shire, as well as the dept for Recreation / wildlife. and DSE. May also be a good idea to contact the local newspaper they may be interested to publish the where abouts of the 1080. It s very much a community issue and a very grave one.
  7. No I would not dream of asking you to install a scanner or type 60 pages to tell the rest of VIC where the baits are laid, a simple link to the relevant info would suffice. Some of us travel and visit foreign places and we ALL like to be informed, I can not go to WCC to collect anything, neither can a lot of people but they may still like to know! Asfor TLC well she is just busy getting in touch with different Govt. Dept and shires to find out why and where this 1080 is laid in public places. Nice to know some people care
  8. Gees Pandii you mean you have all the details and it s all too much like hard work to share, man that s not very considerate. Still think the stuff should be banned it not only kills the vermin it also kills pets wildlife birds, and potentially people. Think of kids and tourists and the general public and write letters to the authorities to have the stuff removed at once. Sorry I forgot you are too busy. EDIT REPLIED BEFORE YOU EDITED YOUR POST
  9. It s a great pity that you can not see the concern that TLC has for her dogs welfare, and that you choose to interpret that as an attack. Surely you must share in the anxiety that someone's pet or even a small child could be the victim of such a poison. I find it amazing that the council be it the WCC or Killarney, could even use such a thing. It would be a far better idea to pool your resources and lobby the necessary party/ies to have such a toxic substance banned, and not turn such a serious subject into a petty personal fight for no good reason.
  10. Love the post Poodlefan, very thorough and well described. And the badger , just love them and otters and hedgehogs.
  11. We areeally feeling for you, Elliot is a wonderful looking dog for his age. Obviously had a great life and you ought to feel very proud of your good mothering . Our Hamish is 13 aq very large rough collie and I see his end is also coming closer. Thinking of you xo
  12. Like already mentioned on this thread, QUALITY OF LIFE and i will add dignity, Ask yourself would I like to be in his shoes, and what do I owe this loyal companion.
  13. It was recommended to me by a vet to use rubbing alcohol instead of water, it dries the ears very quickly, disinfects kills any potential ear mites. The vinegar apple or white is great to restore the PH balance
  14. There is something else which is also great for yeasty ears, 3 parts rubbing alcohol ( from chemist ) to one part white vinegar. The alcohol really dries the ears the vinegar is great for the PH balance. This ratio and ingredients are commonly used in human ear drops as well. This mixture can't be used n infected ears andcannot replace antibiotics. Cheers
  15. If your dog has a diagnosed yeast intolerance, than you may well need to follow a regime like Huski does. Yeast is everywhere around us, dogs ears are perfect to it to fester, damp warm ideal conditions. The trick is to keep the ears as dry and clean as possible and do a weekly ear maintenance, more often if the dogs have been in water or even just bathed. A commonly used antibiotic for ears which is very successful is Surolan. Cant say I have heard of oral treatment for ears, but I guess there may be.
  16. Disc problems are serious ones, they can only really be diagnosed with an X ray, or scans. This is costly of course. Usually a disc problem means a disc has moved slightly out of place and is pressing on a nerve. In the case of lower lumbar that would often result in siatica. The disc will compromise the nerve root, or pinch the nerve in some cases anti inflamatories are very successful, in more serious cases the nerve is too seriously affected. Surgery is an option to decompress the hot spot, but that would be very costly and depending on the age of the dog it may in fact be worse than the problem itself, as it is very invasive. It s a difficult one discs as it is very much a mechanical problem, and they do not repair themselves. I do worry about it as I have 3 Dachshunds. Age will take it s toll on all of us. try to keep your dog as comfortable as you can, pain killers can give releif. Keep an eye out for loss of movements or lameness, this may be a sign of deterioration. In the case of younger dogs, the best think is always to keep a dog reasonably fit and not too fat, in theory this should in fact minimise back problems, unless their is a hereditary problem in the lines.
  17. Yep sounds like a plan, and it s worth doing. You can also try to brush your dog's teeth with a soft tooth brush and doggie tooth paste. Bicarb with a little chicken stock or vegemite is also very good substitute to the toothpaste. You can get descalers they are also very good, but be gentle as the gums will bleed easily. My lot get chicken wings/necks 2 to 3 times a week raw of course and a tooth brushing twice a week. I m sooo popular when I have a toothbrush
  18. The products the vet mentioned and the Opti clean and Epi Otic are excellent for maintenance of ear cleaning, but will not address an infection. These products will not inflame the dogs ear flaps, but the infection will make the ear flaps look red and sore. An infection is easy to diagnose there is always a dark reddish brown wax in the ear canal, the ear may smell and the dog will often scratch at his ear or shake his head. Ear infections can only ONLY ever be treated by anti biotics prescribed by a vet ! Home made remedies will only compound the ear infection which if left untreated can even lead to meningitis. So best way to deal with this is to see a vet and know just what you are dealing with.
