Boo is such a good boy bar the "doesn't so much walk on lead as pull like a steam train" we are joining an obedience club this year and this will be our main issue, aside from that he rarely ever has a short "woof", sits, drops, sit/stays and recalls very very well.

Cats In The Reception Area Of The Vets
Kissindra replied to ruthless's topic in General Dog Discussion
ours has 2 cats and a wolfhound cross, cats have a cat run, waiting room has a section you can close off too - I think it's lovely but then Boo doesn't react to them in the slightest - far too busy wiggling with excitement and joyously greeting the staff I'm more worried about other furry patients who may be snappy due to being out of sorts or scared. -

Anti Puppy Farm Campaigners Hit Out At Kennel Club’s Diversion Tactics
Kissindra replied to Steve's topic in In The News
have there been studies compairing the overall health/wellbeing between dogs given different living environments and levels of human interaction? -
we are looking to join metro this year too, sent off an email enquiry but don't seem to have gotten a reply yet Anyone happen to know if I can sign up with a foster dog and have the membership transfered to the next foster when this one goes? She's going to be a longterm-er but I'd like to bring future fosters along and they are usually short term - so could be too expensive if I had to pay a new fee for each foster. Can't wait to see how we go, Boo is pretty good apart from walking on lead We should be able to provide some amusement

Why Don't People Pick Up After Their Dogs At Shows?
Kissindra replied to TessnSean's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have seen someone with a dog on the end of the leash doing a big number two and they were completely oblivious, I kept hoping they would notice but when they didn't, then walked away, I grabbed the nearest scooper, asked those close by where to put the poop and picked it up, I figured since I didn't say anything while I had the chance the job fell to me -
Boo has a couple of toys he would hump if given them - they are all ones he's had from a tiny pup and newer toys never seem to incite the urge...trouble is he's a lot bigger now and can't get a "good grip" on the smaller puppy toys - must be terribly frustraiting :D
-
yeah that is what I was reffering to :D ETA - though I'm fairly certain her motives were less than pure, bless!

QLD - dog friendly camping "Tambourine Mountain caravan and Camping" http://www.tamborine.info/ dogs allowed if you are staying at the powered/non-powered campsites with your own tent/caravan. Not allowed in the luxury pre-set-up safari tents but if your dogs are fine to sleep outside in a crate/pen I think they'd be fine with that. The owners have dogs and ask that you pick up poop and keep them under control either on lead or penned at all times and unless your dogs spend the entire time barking you wont have a problem we had our own little campfire on site and most of the sites I saw had them, there is also a communal campfire site. They are happy for to collect your own firewood, bring a hatchet and you'll find plenty without needing to buy any. You can reserve a hotplate and other bits and pieces if (like us) you haven't yet managed to buy everything in BCF we took along the bunning compost panels and made a pen around the entrance of our tent and reinforced it with tent pegs - too easy! They have showers, toilets, a kiosk with basic groceries and icecream/firewood/ice for sale plus a coin operated laundry. and "Thunderbird park creekside camping" is also an option (the two campgrounds are all in the same area) http://www.thunderbirdpark.com also dog friendly :D coin operated showers Lots to do here - plenty of walking tracks through the rainforest, volleyball court, mining for thunderbird eggs, rock pools and waterfalls to swim in, horse trail riding, skywalk, adventure park, laser skirmish, all the lovely tourist schlock on tambourine mountain and you should head to http://www.beardeddragon.com.au/ for yummy pub food There is a peacock that wanders the grounds, lots of scrub turkies (which our foster girl was very interested in) we were by a little pond and had a family of wild ducks with 8 adorable ducklings in tow sharing our camp site - bloody huge monitor paid a visit too, thankfully briefly all very easy and good for families and those of us who like to have amenities close by as well as those happy to "rough it" in beautiful surrounds. ETA - we loved it, had a blast and can't wait to go back "Flanagan Reserve" http://www.flanaganreserve.com.au/ It's gorgeous out there, and surrounded by lovely views and mountains. Boo loved swimming in the river Quite a few people with dogs, and even on the busy Australia day weekend there is enough space for everyone to spread out so you aren't on top of one another. No site allocation here - you just pull up where you want. If using a GPS to get there expect the roads not to be found unless you google earth the coordinates and put those in

Tips Needed On Blocking Off Grass Area From The Dogs
Kissindra replied to RubyStar's topic in General Dog Discussion
you can use tent pegs pushed in to the ground with the end holding the bottom of the panels in place to stabalise the compost cage panels, we did this when we went camping and used the panel to make a pen around the tent entrance -
that is so lovely, what a nice person Perhaps you could ring and ask the other staff what he might like as a thankyou gift?
-
group 7 sure makes for a varied lineup though correct me if I'm wrong but the breed groupings can/do differ slightly from country to country yes?
-
oh my, so adorable! Could you explain for those of us not up on the issue what the broad details are?
-
nope, read it three times and still can't understand how a VET could come to the conclusion that it's fine for someone to breed with no care to health issues - particularly when litters have produced problems.
-
since some have brought up "prior to owning" points such as selecting the right breed or individual dog, should buying a dog from ethical sources bare a mention? You can get a dog from any source and still be a truly great owner - plenty of examples of that here on DOL - but if we are looking at things to promote to the public at large as "responsible" perhaps "where puppies come from" should get a mention in order to educate people further?
