  1. Hi guys, I'm hoping some groomers or Maltese owners may be able to help me My OH and I are picking up our Maltese puppy this weekend, very excited! We have been doing heaps of research but a lot of the information we find is contradicting other information. I have grooming brushes all ready to go, crate set up, loads of toys, etc. etc. Having grown up with toy poodles I am no stranger to grooming but I am to the Maltese breed as little Loki will be our first. My question is how often should we bath him? I have been on various websites and they range from once a week to 4 He will be going to a professional groomer to be clipped and hydrobathed when need be but I can't find consistant info on how often to bath him for general maintenance. Also is there any shampoo or conditioner that people reccomend? I have read somewhere about a shampoo and conditioner designed specifically for the maltese coat but can't remember what it was Thanks in advance for any replies! This is new territory for me and we couldn't be happier ETA: Also does anyone in Adelaide have a reccomendation of a good groomer in the Northern suburbs? I haven't had much experience with groomers here other than the one that does my paren'ts poodle. And I don't think he does a very neat job
  2. Thank you everyone! I've been doing quite a bit of googling and I've got bits and pieces of information so it is slowly coming together Thanks for all the replies, I appreciate it
  3. Thanks for that lablover, I will go and check it out I'm probably just going to stick to the history of obedience trials in general, so your link is really helpful. Thanks!
  4. Does anyone know a good website that goes into detail about the origins of obedience trialling? I am writing an article on obedience trialling for our breed club's newsletter and although I can find lots of information on the trials themselves, the titles gained etc. I really wanted to go more in depth with how they originally came about. Any help would be greatly apprecatied.
  5. Well that just sucks Thanks anyway Jeff, appreciate it I will see one one day
  6. I think Schutzhund is an amazing sport. I love watching videos of it, the connection between the dog and his/her handler and the power of that dog to be so well controlled. I am in awe when I watch a good dog and handler work together. I have never seen training or competitions in real life though. Does anyone know if there is a club is South Australia? I have been doing searches on the net but haven't had much luck.
  7. Ice is such a clever boy ;) Love Inspector Fergus overseeing the whole thing
  8. These are all so great guys!!! I must buy photoshop now so I can play to
  9. What a great idea! I have a pattern for a really easy knitted dog coat. Will find it and add it here Here we are I am a complete doofus when it comes to knitting but so far even I have been able to knock up about 10 of these so far for rescue It says to use a specific type of yarn but I have been using 8 ply and they have been coming out fine I'm not good enough to work in the intarsia yet so I just skipped that and continued to use one colour. edited to add: excuse the pen on the second page...my 2 year old daughter thought it would be fun to draw on it
  10. Very peculiar The dog looks quite uncomfortable. I've never seen a dog move like that before. I personally think it has something medical going on to cause it to move that way, or maybe a forced behavior? Whatever it is I really don't think it is "dancing"
  11. I've been away so hadn't noticed this until now. Sleep in peace little angel. Goodness, where have those tissues gone. At least she is free and will no longer feel pain. My deepest and most sincerest sympathies go to her family and loved ones. Why is it always the innocent that are taken to early
  12. I love that video! Seen it so many times but never get sick of it! Amazing dogs! anyone else notice when one latches on to his handler in the excitement of it all? oops hehe

  18. I've got tears rolling down my face! :D Too funny! Eww! Maybe you need to get the cat a bodyguard Did the cat sue him for sexual assault? This is seriously one funny thread...I'm so glad I don't own a male
  19. I love how this has all turned out They are both adorable little puppers and by the sounds of it are going to be very spoilt and happy ;) Best of luck to both families and their new additions
  20. Brilliant news! I hope both families will be delighted with their new additions!
  21. Having personally known a kelpie cross chi it is definatly probable. The chi would have had to be the sire and the border collie a very willing bitch who was kind enough to lie down :D Anmals can be very determined when they wanna be. I remember an old horse dealer/breaker that I once knew telling me how he had a shetland stallion in once. Thinking he couldn't do anything to the thoroughbred mares he had in the paddock he let them in together. Randy little shetland nipped at the mares hocks until they layed down for him You're puppy looks very cute. Give her time and she will eventually settle in
