Thank you lilli, that is really interesting! Thanks for the PM to I really appreciate it. Am reading about the breeds now :p
-
lol and they show some breeds in cages; in other countries the judge has to keep x feet away from the dog ... I guess I find this kind of transported hysteria funny Goodness me! They really show dogs in cages? How can the judges get a proper assessment of conformation? Why have dogs so aggressive that no one can go near? I can understand a dog have a protective nature for use as a guard dog but to have to have it in a cage? If you don't mind lilli, I am rather intrigued, what breeds do they show in cages? I have heard about it before but never in any detail.

Vet Just Told Me What I Am Feeding Is All Wrong
Veanna replied to Veanna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
LousieBrooks, I have two friends that were having a terrible time trying to find the right food for their dogs. On commercial food their dogs were having allergic reactions and were just not doing well on it. Just like you, they switched to BARF and their dogs have never looked better. Now why couldn't I have remembered that when I was speaking to the vet Next time we're in I'm taking in some information so he can expand his knowledge, it will probably end up in the bin but I think everyone should have the right and be respected for feeding what their dog does best on I am so glad Godzy no longer gets hot spots ;) ETA: I have been really surprised with the change in Loki's stools already! He has been on BARF since saturday. When we got him his stool's were quite loose, and would get stuck in his fur. He was fed on pedigree puppy before we got him. Over the last two days his stools have been firm and he has had no trouble at all passing them and no mess on his coat -
Thank you, it is so nice to have a dog again! I do miss the other fluff ball but having my own fluff ball is so wonderful hehe

Thanks MSOM, it is so adorable eta: I love it even more in my signature! You

Vet Just Told Me What I Am Feeding Is All Wrong

I am going to ask to see a different vet when we take him in for his 12 week needles. If we get the same type of service I have a few reccomendations for different clinics now. Thank you to everyone! All your replies and PMs has made me feel so much better Loki thanks you all to while he is gobbling down his BARF hehe -

Vet Just Told Me What I Am Feeding Is All Wrong

When he said not to feed him raw chicken I thought that was really odd. My parent's vet always commented on their dogs lovely teeth and it was because of her daily chicken wing or neck. We only changed vets because of the puppy preschool, think I will be going back to our old vet. Thank you so much for all the advice and support, it makes me feel so much better to know that yes we are doing the right thing by him -

BARF is biologically appropriate raw food ;) The patties I use have everything already in them, or a lot of people make up their own by pulping veges and feeding raw meaty bones. If you do a search on BARF in here you will come up with a lot of info. It is very interesting ;) -

Will just grab his paper work Cassie and will send you a PM ;) Thank you everyone. I might get OH to call and see if we can get a refund on our puppy preschool and go elsewhere. Poodlefan is right, if he doesn't listen or at least respect our decision on what to feed what happens if we have a serious problem. Will get onto it tomorrow. -

Thanks to everyone who has replied. I have the details of another vet that a friend of mine uses, who she highly reccomends. Unfortunately OH already paid for his puppy preschool at that clinic, but I think once we finish his preschool and his 12 week vacc we will be transferring. I would much rather drive further and have a vet that listens and respects what I say, then go to the one that is more convenient yet not as polite or understanding. I really appreciate everyone's replies, it has made me feel so much more confident in my own knowledge and has reassured me heaps, thank you ;) sammy_ballerina, you can see his pics in the Magnificent Maltese thread in the Breed sub forum ;) -

Phew thanks guys! You have all put my mind at ease. I don't have the confidence to prepare the BARF myself so buy the patties so I know everything is in the right proportions and he is getting everything he needs. Loki loves his BARF, and attacks his chicken wings with zest hehe he is bright and happy. Yes, the clinic is filled with commerical dog foods. I might take a list of the ingredients of the BARF patties in with me when we take him to puppy preschool and for his 12 weeks vaccinations just in case. It is dissapointing to put so much thought and research into what is best for your dog only to be told your doing everything wrong, by someone who should no better. Thank you again for your support everyone, I really appreciate it and I'm sure Loki would to KateyKateyKatey, we went to the Vets 4 Pets at Ridgehaven. The ladies at reception were lovely and I also met the ladies that do the grooming. They were so thrilled to see a purebred in there instead of a DD and were so nice The only person I met in the clinic that I didn't like was the vet :p -
Hi guys We have just got back from taking our Maltese puppy to his first vet check since having him. He is healthy but when the vet asked what we were feeding him he completely shot us down and was so condescending. Loki gets BARF patty in the morning and for lunch and a chicken wing for dinner. We have done lots of research on feeding BARF and were happy that this was the right way to go. Vet didn't know what BARF was so I explained that it was biologically appropriate raw food. He said that may be all well and good but it can't compare to a premium commercial food. I thought BARF was better because of no preservatives etc. He also said not to give dogs raw chicken. I mentioned that every dog person I know (breeders, rescuers etc.) reccomend giving pups raw chicken wings and necks. He shot this down as well. Please DOLers are we doing the right thing by Loki with what we feed?

All you wonderful photoshop people, now that I finally have a dog, may I please have a signature made. : His name is Loki and his colour is blue :p Just a few photos to work with ;) Thank you!

Bathing A Maltese, How Often? Edited To Add:
Veanna replied to Veanna's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thank you everyone. I thought once a week seemed too often. We have a metal comb, a slicker brush and a pin brush. He will mostly be inside with romps outside with us and beach visits etc. once he has finished his vaccs. Poodle Wrangler, we don't have a breeder to ask. The person (friend of my cousin's) that has the litter took on the dam (who was being given away) with no idea that she was pregnant. When she called the previous owners they said the the bitch may have mated with their friend's male maltese Cousin's friend (who has the bitch and litter) has offered us one of the puppies(we have been looking for the right small dog for us). I have encouraged her to have the bitch desexed and to do up something saying that puppy buyers should desex their puppies. The little guy will be brushed and combed through every day (having seen some terribly matted dogs I'm paranoid about a single one ). Thank you so much for your replies, I have written the suggestions down for any in between grooming session baths he might need Thanks again!
