Its a sad problem... but I think legitimate breeders can help by reducing the cost of puppies...I paod top dollar for my breed of pup...I love my pup but I still think the price for a pedigree pup of some of the so called "rare" breeds can be quite exuberant. untill all people can afford a pedigree pup these backyard breeders will have a business.

mosy dogs have some level of prey drive... which is the instinct chase down prey ... some breeds have all but had this instinct bred out of them... I believe you can develop the insinct (if at all present) when they are a pup by playing with the pup like you would a kitten getting them to chase a ball on a string.. but if the dog is old the instinct may become so dormant it becomes extinct...

Its a shame, but I walk my pup with a stick, I use it to fend off strays as required... in honesty I wouldnt hesitate to clobber a stray if meant protecting myself and my pup... After all if you are pack leader its your responcibility to protect your pack

Personally I dont let my dog play with other dogs, I think its a recepie for disaster. especially if one is alot older then the other, One thing I would never tolerate is your dog gorwling at you and nibling. I see it as the dog not respecting you as the pack leader. Either it needs to be corrected of the focus of the drive needs to be redirected to an appropriate outlet. Generally you dont correct behaviour in an young puppy so you give them a toy to bit and growl on. When you seperated the pair where you holding them back while they could still see each other?

yes you dog needs to have a cetain amount of prey drive, couple with the desire to retreive, my dog loves to chase, and he often returns back to me I'm working on the release at the momment which is ussually the hardest thing.

Hey Ali, K9Pro have a great article on why to Crate Train go here and have a look 10 Reason to Crate Train a Dog

I never thought of putting Stella on a lead. DER ! LOL but she has improved heaps since I have taught her 'leave it' she does it seldom now. She turns around to do it, then thinks about it & doesn't, which is good.Just mainly when I am out & not their to watch her, which isn't very often. Thats great!, I would still be calling her just as she goes to look at it, dtry and eliminate the thought from her mind completely. but "seldom" is pretty good

Omg! The Crate Is Massive! Where Do You Keep Yours?
Ali replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
bahaha thats what I said when I got mine... I ended up putting it outside and turning into his outsite crate, I bought a small kennel and put that in there as well and trained him to that. Inside he is on a leash and is constantly with someone, if no-one can supervise him inside he is put in his crate outside.. Because he has the kennell inside his crate the blankets are put in there. I'll post a picture when I get home. Obviously as my dog get larger he will outgrow his kennel and the crate will not be used, I'll convert to a dog run once that is the case. -
You can correct it it by leashing her when she goes and as sson as she turns around to eat it call her and give her a tug on the leash as soon as she looks at you reward her and praise her, doing this enough, after she eliminiates she will look straight at you for a reward. If you cant supervise all day, and want to eliminate it get an appropriate sized dog run/crate and put her in it when she isnt being supervised. Generally the dog wont shit in its "den" so when ever you let her out she will probably need to go. and you can supervise.

Also a consideration...you proably all ready thought off... They crate maybe to big, so the dog doesnt feel like its soiling in its den..

Hey beautiful boy, I just got my pup Cane Corso male. I have been going through the leerber training videos which I would recomend to anyone a tittle which is really good is Puppy 8 weeks to 8 months Onething he is very adament about is having to puppies at the same time essentially he said unless you are going to have them seperated at all times its detrimentle to their trainging. Man with all the work thats going into my pup, I dont know how anyone would have the time to look after two hahaha

I would charge about $2000 to $2500 to take one off a breeder ;)..... Sorry couldnt help it..

Thanks Juice that would be great... I've picked up a small one from Ebay last night which will do for the next few months while my boy is still a small pup, but it wont be long till he outgrows it and I'need to buy a replacement. I love the petmate indigo design but even just something simlar would do me.

What Crate Size For Golden Retriever Pup?
Ali replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
I'm getting a Cane Corso pup and I ordered a 48inch metal crate Remember though you will need to cordon some half the crate off whilw they are pups as you run the risk of the crate being to large and them peeing and crapping in it... Ebay Its a bit bigger and a little cheaper then the one @ Vebopet -
You'll have to work on correcting the behaviour, As soon as you can see she starts to get that exicited look in her eye when she sees the cat.. correct her by telling her no or sitting her down to calm her. Do this everytime she gets excited until she understand the behaviour isnt wanted and it will stop. The longer you leave it the worse it will get.
