  1. I got one a couple of months ago from itacor...after reaeasrching alot of mastiff breeds. My boy is awesome, he is 4 months old now and very eager to please. He is very stable around my 15month old and very tolerant. he has been easy to train thus far and so far very mindful of my commands. They are more agile them most other mastiffs so they require more excercise then an english or bullmastiff and if I miss a walk he gets very boistrous. he does have alot of drive and getting my oldest 10 year old to play tree while Hercules jumps up and tugs on his clothes
  2. You beleive this becuase he told you so?LOL.A lot of people claim a lot of things many of them not true.So a young guy with limited resources spends $10,000 to import an American pitbull Terrier when he can get one down the road for $500, yeah right. Not to mention it involves the person at the other end sticking their neck out and lying and risking their livliehood and or prosecution which in America means jail time to send some know nothing kid a dog.I dont think so.Yes it can be done but it wasnt done by this young bloke you speak of.Think about it. Nope, originally I called his bluff and pointed out almost exactly what you stated... but I had to eat my words when he showed us all photos of his "hunting" dogs and his (must admit, very cute) pup was there in print for all to see! When I asked how he managed it all he told me was his brother lives in the US and "where there is a will there is a way". I told him he was a total w@nka and a few other choice words. Unfortunately he hardly has limited resources either. He's 22 and already a $200k plus earner in the mines as a Geotechnical Engineer... money that I could only dream of being on.. LoL. So he showed you a pic of a pup and that makes it true?Lol. Ok, no it doesn't make it true...I lied. He lied. The photo of him and his pup (and his girlfriend I think it was)in the red dirt of Kalgoorlie was most obviously photoshopped.... happy now?! Oh, and the other dudes in the office who have been out shooting with him lied too... lol, probably because he has lots of guns and to argue with him would probably mean a bullet in the foot (just joking). Gosh, I was just telling that it happened. He has contacts... most obviously not very reputable ones. I 150% don't agree with what he did, but he did it. ***sigh*** I knewI should have taken him up on the offer to "prove it" to me, but I didn't want to give him the pleasure of standing me corrected when I told him there was no way he would get one into Australia, especially after seeing the photos and others backing him up. It is worrying thought that if it can happen just how often is it happening?! Just ETA... sorry my response was a bit rude. Am very pregnant and cranky... I don't blame anyone for doubting it. I probably would too. If I had the cash, i'd import a Dogo Argintino...I dont buy into the BSL crap..and if your mate imported a Pure Bred Pittbul bred to a standard and stable rather then one of the basterdised pittys here in Australia thay run the risk of being humen aggresive..because the BYB standard is I want it to have locak jaw and be massive... Then he is probably more responcible then most.... Massive assumptions on my part, but just looking at the otherside od the coin..
  3. Well put Weasel, not the best of situations for human for animal...but alot of are trying to make the most out of the cards they were dealt... Are they blameless no..but hey I have it alot better and still make some pretty selfish decisions...
  4. I certainly hope that Australian breeders aren't breeding for this trait. Attacking without warning is not a desirable trait in any dog, especially since these are becoming more popular in suburbia. hmm here is something contriversial....If part of the reason they were to bred os tp attack in silence, I'd rather seem them not bred here then that trait be bred out of them... I love them by the way awesome creature
  5. Homophobic  ....please labeling someone as Homophobic because that diddnt sell you a dog is a bit of a stretch... Also not agreeing with homosexuality isnt Homophobia... talk about most over used word of the decade...
  6. I agree, and a side note I understand the intent of the video...but alot of what is shown might strengthen some arguments...Also I it lacked alot of hard evidence of what a true APBT is compared to a PittBull...some dogs in there looked nothing like an APBT or the Pittbulls I know.... anyway just some feedback...
  7. I must say, I have never been in the situation...but you need a really cool head (like most emergency situations) to act appropriatly.. So its a tough ask but you really just need to take that extra 10 seconds to keep your head in the game and you have it sorted....easier said then done right!
  8. Actually I once heard of a little terrier killing a Rottie, how you ask?.....got stuck in its throat ;) Actually one of the things I like about owning a mastiff breed is no one bothers comming up to talk, unless they are a dog person which I dont mind...because they are so brainwashed by all the rumours and scare mongering...
  9. I like this one.. http://leerburg.com/pdf/howtobreakupdogfight.pdf BIG TIP Having two people is better then 1 and you better have put your balls of steel on. yeah essentially you grab the back legs off the ground and star twirling them arround so the dog has to move with you otherwise it would fall pn its face keep twirling until you have twurled into a room you can close the door on.... presumebly you have a friend doing the same thing with the other dog. if your alone it involves the same thing except you tie one of the dogs off..
  10. Sorry to hijack... I dont have any experience with greyhounds.... but what is with the muzzles? Are they prone to insinctively nip or bite? I get the requirment to be on leash at all times due to their inconsitent recall... Can someone explain a little...they are so elegant..
  11. I think it was fake too I diddnt even bother with the 2nd video, the growls sent shivers down my spines though...
  12. What about the The Saluki similar to a greyhound, I'm not sure if the temperment would glash with a GSD though...they are very different dogs... I would love one, one day.
  13. I agree with what everyone has said regarding getting another opinion. But there is still food for thought....Alot of trainers suscribe to the opinion of you control every aspect of your dogs life and interations....especially around high value items in the eyes of dogs. Food, play and pack.... The desire is to have the dog believe its part of the pack, but that it is the lowest ranking member in the pack. This doesnt upset the dog or hurt its feelings its simply ensures complience and submisiveness from your dog. All the actions listed by your trainer can increase the perception in the dogs eyes that it is equal ir higher then everyone else int he pack. Now is this the situation with your dog, I dont know...but I do believe there are somethings that you need to ensure you do to maintain your "rank" even if you let the dog get away with other things like laying on your feet wihtout permission. I think as a minumum: The dog should eat after you or have the perception that he is eating after you: Follow you in every scenario even if you are moving from one room to another that is you enter the room first and then he follow. No pulling on the leash... But at the end of the day, if your dog isnt showing ANY signs of aggressiveness and you are happy with the (lets call it) assertiveness then just look to correct the behaviour you dont like... Would Crate Training help ?

  16. I'm not sure on this one .. UNLESS puppy is relaxed and happy and not obsessing over its food . Patting a puppy who is in this guarding mode is both rewarding and escalating the behaviour ... and risking a bite. Agreed, thats what I meant. thanks
  17. No you will want to nip this in the butt now before your dog is big enough to cause you damage.... Start off by not just giving him his food make him sit until he complies and then give him food. when you give him food put it near your feet or a most a foot away from you and then stand then and watch him eat, no need to maintain eye contact but just be there with a relaxed and assertive attitude. Observe his attitude, if he growls say "NO!" to snap him out of it. The no needs to come across like you are in control and that you are the boss. Triange of temptation is a fantastic training method!
  18. we just grabbed him by the scruff of the neck, rolled him onto his back and growled "no" loudly at him and then walked away. I wouldnt recomend doing that kind of correction with a powerful or dominent dog....people have had their faces bitten off for that....
  19. Dog Walking has to be at the top of any list as a bonding activity infact I would say essential..
  20. yeah, I have always had some sort of pet... cats, birds, ferrets, rabbits fish. I have always felt empathy and concern for their wellbeing making sure all their needs a fulfilled...but with a dog their uncanny ability to connect just fills you with emotion
  21. Where can I find details of the fair? Thanks
  22. I remember the days when I couldnt understand people's over affection with their dogs (and pets in general) but I've had my pup approaching a month now, and I dont know how I lived with out him! Dogs are just amazing how they connect with their human owners their desire to please is just amazing, with that they dont demand anything of you. I mean yeah they want to be loved and all that jazz, but even dogs that dont get the affection they deserve they still try their utmost to please. I have really come to appreciate the term "Mans best friend" Hercules was just being so perfect on his walk I had to share I just had to share Because tomorrow will be a total bastard and I will want to have a vent hahaha
  23. I also feed my dog in his crate with the door open, so going into the crate doesnt mean being locked away EVERYTIME.
  24. Ali - my guess is that it IS tough when an owner is away from home a big chunk of the day .... sorry diddnt mean to sound sarcastic...it wasnt my intention I was trying to say its tough but not impossible....
